pretty stupid, she obviously didnt consider that people dont actually vote based on what the government can actually do. it's based on what they think of the figureheads...and if one of those leaders slags off the biggest sporting club in australia...well yeah, she's shot herself in the foot there.

Oh good grief. How many people who support Collingwood live in the seat of Melbourne now days. Has anyone of us recently taken a walk through it. It's hardly prime football supporting demographic.

And the ALP lost the seat of Melbourne months ago.

The Seat of Melbourne has Alphington, Clifton Hill, Abbotsford, Fairfield & Collingwood. I've bought a house in Clifton Hill in the last 3 years & basically grown up around the area. It is filled with that demographic. That area/the Suburbs I mentioned is rampant Collingwood.

This seat is pretty close right now.

Surely all the Carlton fans will vote Labor now that she is dead against the Pies.
This from Antony Green's election Blog - that bastard is never wrong!

History/Trivia

Existing since Federation, Melbourne has been Labor held since 1904. Former members include Bill Maloney (1904-40), Arthur Calwell (1940-72), Ted Innes (1972-83) and Gerry Hand (1983-93). The electorate contains the homes of five of the 10 Victorian based AFL clubs.

So she may have retained the seat with that statement.

a hilarious thread :D

Collingwood suppporters love being the biggest and the most hated. If anything, this would only endear her to them. It certainly was the most unscripted, "human" moment in the whole forum, and was if anything a great moment for her as people will relate to it.

North Melbourne, Collingwood, Carlton, Melbourne (though most of their fans live east of the Yarra these days anyway) and Richmond are all in that seat. Fitzroy were too if that wasn't enough footy teams.

Surely people can think of better reasons to vote for/against someone then what footy teams they like and hate

And we still do. Albeit not in the AFL, of course.

Can't say I'd be moved to consider voting for Abbott if he decided to headbutt Ross Oakley, Ian Collins or Graham Samuel, or even all three. But it'd still be nice if he did...

Yeah saw that. Really, why do they bother?
Good question.

It was rather awkward when Julia the die-hard Bulldogs fan didn't even know the words to their theme song.

How long has she "supposedly" been supporting them?

Most football supported know their own and parts of other teams songs by the time they are 10.

A fair % of Carlton would be Uni students from allover. Fitzroy would lean to the Greens as is, alternative/s is huge amongst that area.

I doubt the ALP will get up in this seat.

Most football supported know their own and parts of other teams songs by the time they are 10.

When Peter Gordon was Managing Partner at Slaters he insisted that non-aligned staff members join the Bullys - I suppose about twenty years. How do you know she does not know the words of the theme song. It is a bit of a test of a true footy fan. Anyone who goes to the footy with any regularity would know just about every club song
