This guy has done jack all. Would seriously love to see Ling come in as midfield coach, Dasher and Scarlo back as defensive coaches and Mooney back as a forward coach. Would be nice having our old players (those who look likely as coaches) back around the clubs inspiring the kids.
It's a nice thought, but I think you need to be careful not to be too inward looking and remain open to external ideas. Maybe once those guys have spent time at other successful clubs...
That is purely dependent on personnel. If 211 is dominant in the ruck, and is able to gift goals the way he did down at Geelong, then we are in trouble
We beat them easily in Geelong early this year when they were missing stars, and we had DS dominating.
Actually, I forgot to add North Melbourne to the list of game styles that we struggle against. Again, perhaps it is personnel, but they do seem to cut us open pretty easily.
I do feel that Scotty is not at the Clarkson level when it comes to tactics, at least not yet.
But don't get me wrong - All up, I am very happy with him!

We played 8 players in a Preliminary Final who will be 22 or under this year.
Go and and look at Hawthorn , Freo and the Swans teams in the GF and Prelims in terms of age - we are doing very nicely for a team who has won 3 flags since 07
Scott is driving that and he has the courage to see it through. We will be battling it out with Gold Coast and GWS in a few years , don't know about our contempories.

This is it for mine. We have finished this season effectively 3rd overall and we had 8 kids under 22 in the PF. Over 1/3 of our team.
That is brilliant for the future.

Richmond have been in the wilderness for 20 years and are just coming up now with a group that is older. North have been irrelevant for 15 years and are coming up. We have been relevant for the last 7 years.

Happy CS Came here. Happy he is here. Happy he is staying here.

No complaints really with CS. We won a flag under his coaching.

Still I have been surprised and impressed by Ken Hinkley's efforts over the border thus far.

Compare Gary "List Destroyer" Ayres to Chris Scott

Both made a grand final in there first season.
Both finish there second season in the bottom 8, Scott 6th Ayres 7th
Both finish 2nd on ladder in there 3rd season.
Ayres finished 12th in his fourth season.

Ayres destroyed our list, retired alot of our stars and it took years to recover.

food for thought.

We've been outcoached a number of times this year in crucial games. Will he learn?

To his credit- our coaching staff have been picked off as well, so his assistants may still be trying to find some stability.

Well with all the retirements/delisting and possible trades it will take some pretty good coaching to get us near a top 4 position in 2014. Suspect this season coming will tell us a lot about CS as the team becomes more and more of his making.

Not sure about any bottom 8.
Ruthlessness is part of being a great coach, as is respect for legends of our team; I am sure CS has BOTH .

Ayres also delisted promising youngsters like aaron lord and adrian hickmott. Scott hasn't.

As you mention there are similarities!

People will never be happy. We have been at the top so long, we could be like the Saints right now and no one would be surprised because every other supporter would have been expecting us to bomb out. Just think about that; we beat Bulldogs in 09, beat St Kilda the same year, and now both are basket cases struggling to win games. The Cats finished 2nd, had two narrow losses to the eventual Grand Finalists and people are questioning Chris Scott already? Because he delisted Chapman?

If you want to look at a club that is struggling despite talent, look at Collingwood who get by purely because of Swans and Pendles.

Scott will be judged on the next two years. I don't agree with the decision to move on Chappy now, im sure a lot of fans dont. Now we see what Geelong under CS looks like.

I believe he is signed for the next 2 years. Meaning he comes out of contract at the end of 2015. If he doesn't show a clear path towards the next premiership then i can see Geelong pushing hard for Paul Roos before he activates he's optional 3rd year at Melbourne. A lot of water to go under the bridge first though.

Damn right we did. Has he made mistakes, sure. But what coach hasn't? Plus he's still learning so can only get better. And the assistants are just as responsible for performance these days. I'm disappointed how the season ended but I can't fault the coaches for that. Under CS we won a premiership when we were written off (again), maintained a high win/loss ratio all while turning over the list and producing young talent. It's never been done before during the salary cap/draft era and while nothing regarding the future is certain, I like where we're heading.

2012/13 were our last year's to contend

can't help but think with CS being outcoached twice by Ross Lyon in finals that he kind of blew it.

However, it's too hard to say if Ken Hinkley or anyone else could have done better until we see their coaching records after a few more seasons

via Adelaide?
I see CS coaching us until 2020.
So do I.

Players have the utmost respect for him, all (even Chappy) spoke highly of him at the B&F tonight. He has a plan-there's no way Cook/Balme etc would let Scott go on his merry way delisting players if they thought he was making wrong decisions

Would you prefer Clarko?
Sando? Where did Adelaide finish this year?
Macca? Dogs have showed signs this year , finally.
Hinkley?
Let's see his 2nd year.
I for one was rapt that we selected CS, and still am.
He does not overrate our list, and he has to imprint his methods on a changing list. Not easy.
What were you saying post 2011?
Not even sure if serious, if so, very fickle.
He massively overrates Stringer, Varcoe, Brown, Hunt, Vardy, Walker and Murdoch. His overrating of these players probably cost us a premiership.

Instead of simply saying "oh dear" yet again to one of your posts, this time I am going to calmly ask how you believe that he "overrates" said players?

Because he hasn't delisted the lot of them and made them pay back every cent they earned during their time of the GFC?:rolleyes:

He doesn't. He plays the younger players because he does not want to go the way of St.Kilda and Brisbane. He has clearly said that we should not overrate our list due to finishing top 3 and the VFL finishing 2nd.
I think that Scott is well aware of the weaknesses in the list.

Well with our list we have so many kids that people are 50/50 on.we need to play them to find out who are the ones that are going to stand up
