CLASSY Collingwood forward Alan Didak has overcome the heart troubles which led him almost to pass out on the field and has been re-signed to a new three-year deal with the Magpies.
The emerging midfielder was contracted for next year but the new deal will add two more years, committing him to Collingwood until the end of 2008 for up to $1 million for the three years.
"We have been talking about it for a while. We are reasonably close," Collingwood football manager Neil Balme said yesterday. "It has not been signed but it is pretty well there — we are just finishing off the last bits."
Didak had a dreadful year, missing much of the pre-season and the first five rounds with a leg injury. He missed two games to suspension and in round 19 against the Kangaroos, his season ended after he nearly fainted on the field after a heart irregularity. He managed 12 games for the year.
"Alan's had a frustrating season but it was pleasing that the priority of the club at the end of the year was to make sure Alan's health was right and while he is still being monitored, he has been cleared by the doctors and the club knows Alan is part of their long-term plans and wanted to commit to him," said Didak's manager Alex McDonald of Flying Start.
"Alan sees a bright future at Collingwood with the young players there and is very keen to move into the midfield next year."
