Saw this mentioned in that insane Carlton Collingwood merger thread.

Quite a few of my Collingwood mates were absolutely adamant last year that Dids was clearly the better player.

Surely now with Stevens hitting peak form this debate can be rationally decided once and for all :D

stevens in fantastic form and would have loved to get him. didak i think will be just as good so given collingwood would have to have given their first draft pick and didak for stevens, i think they made the right choice.

Stevens has had a good start to the season so def. on the way up. Not part of the elite midfielder group tho.

however, Di Di Didak's 2006 was a major reason to their rise up the ladder last year. Top player.

Stevens has always been one of the AFL's elite midfielders. He's just reminding everyone why. He is a class above anyone on the Bulldogs list. :)

Please Parrot. What about Johno!!! I like your funny style Parrot, but this is a rediculous comment. Doggies are a top 4 side loaded with guns like Brad, Westy, Murphy, Cooney. Let's keep the arguments semi rational.
Re Didak vs Stevo. Absolutely no way either side would trade for the other. Didak is an All Australian 06, and Stevo is a gun. See that he is into $13.00 4th/5th favourite for the Brownlow. If he keeps up the form he has shown in the NAB and rd.1, he will do very well. (As long as we can win 8-10 plus games)
I vote Stevo just.

last year didak was easily the better player

this year stevens has played one great game, but didak is yet to play

no way would the pies give up didak, carlton just lucky that port were willing to let him go for nothing, or else the pies would have them both!

No u wouldnt have as Port wanted Didak so he would have gone for Stevens...they would only accept that because the other players u guys were offering were absolute garbage and i say well done to Port for not going thru with it - of course i would say that as Blues supporter though

Not really comparing apples to apples here guys...a high possession gathering midfielder vs a match winning flanker. Both valuable when at their best, maybe Didak a bit more consistent (at the moment), having said that if Stevo keeps up the form he is in...well time will tell!!!

Stevens has been grossly under-rated since arriving at Carlton. He is elite. He is a brilliant reader of the play, has excellent balance, and freaky footskills. He has the capacity to cut the best opposition to shreds when in form and fit. He is nowhere near as consistent as some of the Bulldogs midfielders at this stage, but he IS more talented than anyone on the Bulldogs list. I'm delighted to see Stevens regaining his fitness and form, and reminding the football world of his elite midfielder status. Some of his clearance work on Sunday was simply brilliant. A great role-model for our young midfield group. :)

What do you mean no we wouldn't??

Port didn't want to trade away one of their best midfielders to a team that had just knocked them out of the two previous finals series. They put a massive price on his head, and the pies believed that they held all the cards....neither side was willing to budge

Port ended up losing a star player for nothing
Pies keep didak, but missed out on stevens

if a trade was arranged Port would have got something (draft picks other players) and the pies would have had Didak and Stevens!

Alan Didak. He is younger and more consistent. At the moment, Carlton supporters understand that Didak is a match winner, and it is hard to go past him, which is absolutely correct, having said that if Stevens has a great year (including AA selection) he will get credit from everyone, then you could say Stevens has got a case in the matter.
