Not sure if Alan Didak at Adelaide will help us. It will probably ruin us.

I noticed that Alan Didak this year has lost a bit of his kicking power, and dosen't seem the same as he was in his better years such as 2003, maybe it was related to that knee surgery to he had last year. Look, losing Tarrant made no difference to the Pies, they will finish at least 6th after finishing 7th last year. I knew with Chris Tarrant going to Freo would spell disaster for the Dockers. Travis Cloke has filled that gap for Tarrant quite well and other guys such as Rusling and Thomas have also stepped up so they'll always be a challenge if Rocca has a bad game. Pies will be unstoppable if they can kick straighter in front of goal. Hmm scary!

His best year was last year (2006), and then he had a reco, which is why he's struggling this year.
In all honesty, Tarrant was a lazy, under-achieving bum who'd always choke on big occasions.

Didak, despite his off-field stuff, is a very hard worker, and an exceptional finals performer.

To put it into context, I think the closest player value-wise at Adelaide is Johncock. Obviously since Didak is the one who allegedly wants to leave, you'd never give up Johncock (nor should you), but they've had a pretty similar couple of years. Both were fantastic in 2006 (best at their position arguably), and both have struggled in 2007 due to injury.

So when looking at trade scenarios, consider what you'd want us to give up if Johncock wanted to move to Collingwood - and I suggest 2 fringe players and a no.10 pick wouldn't excite you any more than it does me ;)

Depends if the fringe players are Ben Reid and Rusling :p

It's all speculation, came about as a result of a phone call to 5AA from a 'mate' of Didaks who said he wanted to come back to SA and would prefer the Crows over Port.

Wont happen IMO.

5AA, HAHAHAH that says it all.

Yes, ruck is a major weakness for us, but Meesen isn't the fix. We need a ruckman that actually has the ability to win hit-outs.
Mattner, although fun to watch on occasion, is close to the stupidest player going round. Always takes on one tackle too many and ends up killing the team's momentum.

Basically, neither player would actually make the Collingwood side. So essentially you're offering a no.10 pick for a 24yo AA...

I'm not sure why you think Knights/van Berlo/Reilly would all be off the table - Didak when fit is a better player than any of them. I'm not trying to troll here, I rate Knights and Reilly quite highly, but last year Didak was the best HFF in the comp. The problem atm is "when fit" - which is why I'd hate trading him this off-season since clubs are bound to underpay due to injury concerns.

This is exactly why it wont happen. Collingwood people always over rate their own, while under rating others.

I would've thought Meesen, our first pick and a fringe player would've secured the deal personally. Meesen + Mattner + pick 10 sounds on the money of what we'll throw up actually.
I would almost agree that this is fair - MEESON - unknown - MATTNER - fringe - Pick 10 - Yes. If, and only if, he wants to go - Fair deal

So we complain because we don't have the arrogant type who's willing to throw his body around and provide us with a bit of flair and drive and then when one may potentially fall into our laps we jump up and down and don't want him?

Makes sense
I wouldn't exactly call Didak the player that loves to throw his body around ;)

Maybe on the back seat of a car chase but certainly not on the footy field ;) :p

Not for mine.

Collingwood are notoriously devious demanding traders. They would want far in excess of his true value.

We're not going to win a flag next year, so let's not try topping up. Let's build from the bottom up.
This wouldn't be a quick fix. Didak is still young. I think he is same age as Reilly or there abouts. So what he gives us is what we are seriously missing when it comes to age balance of our list. He gives us some genuines much needed class but he also falls into that age category that we need.

There is no reason why you can't add Didak AND add more talent to the bottom of your list to keep bringing in the youth.

Thompson, Reilly, van Berlo, Knights and Didak would form a pretty good base for our midfield going forward. And if you keep adding some youth underneath that and you are doing pretty well.

Didak is young enough to play in our next premiership, even after the rebuild so we wouldn't be going for a quick, short term fix.

Meesen, Mattner and pick 10 potentially may be an acceptable price and something Collingwood will look strongly at but that doesn’t mean we have to offer that.

IMO that is way too much to give up for one player. 3 potential first choice players to gain one back in return. No thank you.

There are very faint rumours that Thompson is considering a return to Melbourne because his girlfriend (and mother of his child) is a homesick Victorian. 99% certain to be rubbish, however if it were the case, I’d be happy with a straight swap for Didak.

Didak is quicker and a hell of a lot deadlier in front of goal.

why only have one when we can get both!! :)

Yawn. He's a footballer not a nun. We need footballers, not nice guys who can't play. We're crying out for a small forward, but I can't see Collingwood making an acceptable deal if this was on the table. The Pies are notorious for being the worst club to trade with, as they think that all their players are worthy of the No.1 draft pick. Just ask Port about their attempts to trade with the Pies....
That is because Port are just as stubborn.

Yes lets get him.

Personally this talk of Meesen, Mattner + pick 10 is for me a bad deal. A top 10 pick for an AA + a player capable of filling a role should be a suitable swap. eg Tarrant (AA) to Freo for pick 8 & Medhurst. Meesen + pick 10 may be pushing it, but not out of the question? Remember Didak has baggage (injury & "friends").

If it was true (Thomson to Vic), would we be happy to make the straight swap?
Personally I'd give up Thomson in a heart beat, he is a decent player and gets the ball, but his errors are killing me!
Not that I want this to happen, but if a direct swap were to happen with one of our midfielders, I would prefer a Knights - Didak direct swap. Keep Thomson.
