He'll be much better with a full preseason. If he can't win a game on merit at that point then he can hang up the boots, but I think he has a lot more to offer.

Can't believe you guys are killing off Dids, has a bad year after no pre season and you all want to get rid of him, I bet you are the same people who wanted to kill off Leon last year too, show some respect and support.

Reid and Jolly had a poor finish to the year, do you want to get rid of them too?

+1 :thumbsu:

Fasolo should never have got a game ahead of Goldsack. With injury doubts over Reid and Jolly its just a stupid selection.

We need to get more hard nuts into the team, not these fancy do gooders. Macaffer would have been huge today and was sorely missed. Bringing in the sack as the sub when Reid was on 1 leg would have turned the game.

Not the furst time we have lost a game at the selection table.
I may not have seen as much of him this year but I think you are harsh on Fasolo. .Bloke works his ass off and is pretty hard at it for a bloke new to AFL. Has skill and will be a meat and potatoes player. Was an investment. Was hardly the reason you lost the game

Dids was never fit enough this year at any stage and by all rights should never have played any finals games because he did not deserve any of them based on 2011 form only 2010 form

Next year will be his measuring stick. If he get fit in the pre-season and still struggles then I fear the game has passed him by. The problem Didak will have nowadays is that the modern game is so hard and relentless especially in big finals that teams need everyone hard at the contest all the time. You may be able to carry one or two "soft" players, but today I could name about 7 of them, won't though. But, to be fair when you are gone physically you can look far softer than you really are simply because your are knackered. Anyone whose played footy knows this can be true.

Adelaide also has this problem with players being gifted games based on previous years good form (Vince, Douglas). Didak is a real talent though and if I were coaching Collingwood I would probably give him another year to sort it out.

An in-form Didak has this knack for drilling unbelievable goals, a real game winner when he's fit.

You gotta laugh at people making constant excuses for him based on his interrupted pre-season.

Stevie J who is a very similar player to him starred today on one leg.

He's been running around like a headless chook without any impact and avoiding any sort of physical contact for the whole year yet kept on being gifted games.
Bucks won't be as generous.

There's a difference between an interrupted pre-season and playing injured.

Didak has had nothing to go off all year, but I do agree (and I think many would) that he has been 'gifted' games he shouldn't have this year.

I think what most are trying to say is he will bounce back (assuming he gets a full pre season behind him next year).

Being unfit doesn't excuse not wanting to contest and put the body on the line when it's your turn, Dids has been doing this the last few seasons.

A loose ball 1v1 he will allow the player o take possession even if he arrives 1st he will zone off and then attempt to tackle, which rarely sticks and said player either gets off a handball to running player or breaks it himself.

This year it's more noticeable as his skill level diminished probably due to not having the fitness behind him.

I'd entertain a trade but mainly as part of a deal to get young Jeager O'mearer or Jake Stringer.

I cannot wait until Didak has a solid pre-season and Buckley re-invents Didak next year, similarly to Davis this year as last season he was carried all year and gifted games and a finals spot as well... Didak is superstar and he is what? 27 or so? He still potentially has 3+ yrs in him. I suspect in that time he will get back to his best. Too good not to.

I can't believe what is being said about Dids. It seemed to me that he had a forward tag role on Scarlett and did a great job. Not his normal role but did well. I would questions the role of Wellingham and others before Dids.

Bucks will give him another chance! I wonder if his thinking about a early retirement dosent seem to enjoy the game anymore! If he shows this form next year Bucks wont be so nice.

Didak has never been one to put his body in since day one, so don't expect him to be or become that type of player now. It's just not going to happen.

Same as saying that Dawes will be able to take big pack marks. The fact is he doesn't take the ball in his hands or has the timing to leap and take the ball at its highest point. You can't teach that, you've either got it or you don't and Dawes certainly doesn't.

I digress, back to Dids..

Given that he missed a chunk of the pre-season and sustaining a calf injury during the year, there is a case for a small excuse.

I'd be more inclined to say that the gameplan just doesn't suit his role anymore and others (Krak namely) have taken his spot.

He is a deadly user of the footy and shot on goal but we just don't either look for him or use him. When he looked like getting back into some type of form, we were giving him the footy by hand and letting him drive the ball forward.

Either he wasn't prepared to push hard and receive the footy or the 'role' that Malthouse gave him never allowed him to get near the footy or make use his creativity.

If I was Bucks, I'd be looking to get the ball in dids hands more often and get him back to having his 30 or 40 shots on goal this year. I'd be suprised if he had more than 5 this year.

Didn't work, Scarlett was still able to influence contests and we did not look like scoring for large patches in the second half.

I for one would have rather seen Didak use the footy instead of running away for it and play for free kicks in one on one marking contests.

I thought the Scarlett v Didak/Brown match up nullified each other, Scarlett didn't hurt us, like Ottens v Jolly. Ottens and Scarlett have killed us before but neither had a major influence.

Dids was not the reason we lost, in 4th qtr we were all out on our feet and they over ran us in the midfield.

Hahaha... OMG!! We are the worst supporters in the AFL. We bag our team so much when we lose!!
Alan didak is a copeland trophy winner, leading goalkicker, two time AA, and a premiership player!! SHOW SOME RESPECT!!!!
He has one bad year and idiots bag him... I agree that the game has gotten a bit to quick for him, and he needs to possibly sit down and contemplate possible retirement... Last thing he should do is hang around and play VFL, he has been to much of a good player to do that!

u OBV never heard about essendon supporters booing stanton... and stanton never possibly cost them a premiership. so u got no idea.

Give dids a full preseason, hopefully get his speed and confidence back and maybe he can make it again.. if not next year will be his last.

The other option is a trade to GWS which i wouldnt be against if his value is based off what he COULD do

Wow there are some overreactions (no too surprising coming off a loss).

2011 is no different to 2007 for Didak. Look it up for anyone who doesn't remember.

He's had no preseason, been injured multiple times during the year and has had no fitness to work off. He'll be back to form next year no doubt about it, and he'll make a huge difference to the side. His form was severely missed at the end of the year.

Agreed:thumbsu: It should never of played in the GF, bought nothing, gave nothing all year. We would have been better with a fit body that was prepared to tackle...maybe Goldsack. I cannot understand why he played the whole game.
Unfortunately Blair was worse. Didak did get gifted games, and I think Goldsack is the only one who would have been better. Beams ruled himself out, Fasolo had question marks on his head (and didn't do much when he came on anyway) and guys like Sinclaire, Rounds etc were given games late in the year and weren't much better options. Looking at it we didn't really have many better options not playing.
