The alleged benefits of Diesel in terms of fuel economy seem to be negated by the price at the pump.

Today Diesel was 149.9 whilst unleaded was 134.9, why is this?

on a semi related note did the Chairman of the ACCC fall of his chair when a woolworths spokesman utterered the following this week?

"Woolworths is a price follower and our outlets change prices after moves by competitors."

Having spent about 12 years driving a diesel vehicle it used to shit me no end. When I first got one the price of diesel was about 15-20 cents cheaper. At some point there was a period where prices rose very quickly (Iraq invasion maybe? Can't remember exactly what it was). Anyway, at that time the ULP price was fluctuating massively, up and down like the Assyrian Empire. And what happened was, every time the ULP pump price went up, the diesel price went with it. But when the ULP fell again, they just left the diesel where it was. Then the ULP went up again and they put the diesel up with it.

So we ended up in the current situation, where the fuel that costs about half as much to produce costs more at the bowser. Bottom line is that the number of people driving diesel vehicles isn't high enough to have a price war over.

I don't have a diesel any more, so I don't care. But it's still stupid.

Discovered about 12 months ago that ULP is cheaper in Melbourne than Ballarat, but Diesel is cheaper in Ballarat that Melbourne. About 5c/L each way at the time too. Not overly rational

Dist doesn't have the cyclical demand structure like ULP.

Where I live both Diesel and ULP sit at around 145c.

Most unusual, I can't ever recall seeing parity between the two, Diesel always seems to be dearer and significantly so in most areas of Australia.
Someone told me once that it's cheaper to produce Diesel than ULP which, if so, makes it even harder to accept the price differential.

As mentioned earlier, Diesel used to always be much cheaper that petrol. Not sure if there has been added taxes as it is generally (less so now) dirtier

Speaking of petrol pricing, here is the current price of gasoline in Los Angeles, California.

Average, US$3.95 per US Gallon.
At the current exchange rate (107ish) that makes it about AUD$3.70

One US Gallon =~3.7 litres

So they are paying about AUD$1 per litre of fuel, and AFAIK LA is one of the more expensive places for fuel.

Miami price is about US$3.6, which is about AUD$.90 per litre.

Shows how much getting it from Singapore +tax costs us.

Diesel is less refined than petrol and should be cheaper. Diesel is probably dearer though because of the supply and demand factor, as it is commonly used in commercial applications (trucks, tractors. etc).

The price of LPG is more of a joke because it is basically a waste product of crude oil.
