Colleague at work said earlier today Mike Sheehan will do a top 50 players from the AFL era, soon.
And apparently it was asked on radio this morn who would you have higher, Judd or Diesel?
Apparently Mike said only a couple spots separate them, but he didnt say who he had higher.

thoughts?

Very different players, so hard to judge/split.

In saying that, both players share something in common - they both came to Carlton after winning a Brownlow at another club.
And then as we know both won a second Brownlow at Carlton.
And both I think it is fair to say were/are players of few words, who led/lead more by example.

Exceptional effort by Judd to re-model his game into more of an extractor role, and similarly great effort by Diesel to dominate the game with limited height and pace/speed.
So both had to adapt.

Diesel I think was a better user of the ball, but Judd had the outside game as well as the inside game and will go down in history as more of a 'formal' leader than Diesel.

For the record Judd has played more games and kicked more goals.
Of course Diesel missed more than a few through suspension.

Its a good question. Both are greats of the game, but I would think Judd gets the nod. His physical capabilities are off the chart compared to Diesel, though granted they playes in different eras. I just think the ability of Judd to break lines, kick goals AND do the tough inside work puts him at a level that very few could match.

I leaning more towards Diesel.

I see his equivalent in todays game as GAJ.
His ability to impact a game, to shine out amongst other champions and to bring others into the game were consistently top quality.

My father is 65. Lets just say he's seen the greatest of all matches we've been involved in and witnessed the best players to wear our jumper.
I went to every game we played in with him for 20 odd years. We had the conversation so many times over its not funny. Jezza was always his greatest. Without doubt. The Diesel came along after his Sydney stint and my father painfully admitted that he was the best he saw at Carlton. Been that way since.

I was shocked, absolutely shocked to hear him say last year "Juddy is better than Deisel".

Diesel, purely because he prbably wasnt blessed with Juddy's athleticism and just got the absolute most out of what he had. I think he also shades Judd for pure skill in disposal on both sides. I love Juddy and if I hadn't grown up watching Diesel it would be hard to imagine a better player.
I think you need to consider how much Diesel brought his

im fortunate enought to have witnessed both...and i find it difficult to split them as they both brought something different to the table.
great debate!! both outstanding elite players, imagine if you had both of them playing at once....my goodness!
but i gotta say im leaning towards juddy...

i have a few other bias' towards judd but theyre not footy related.

How many rusted-on Juddites saw Diesel play?
I saw them both and the one thing that Diesel had that Juddy really hasn't at Carlton is a good/great team around him.

Not taking anything away from Diesel as I am a big fan but the way that Judd can lift a team on his back and carry them home with no better example than the 2013 EF. I really do pray that we get to see the Judd man in full flight this year as it will be something to behold.

Saw them both, and I'd have Diesel ahead. No shame in that.

But respect to Judd, who meant so much a deeply troubled club.

And won two brownlows playing two different midfield roles.

Jeez it was good to scoff 'Judd' again as he burst through pack after pack in Bendigo.

I believe Greg William playing today would be a lot fitter and playing like Sam Mitchell, only better.

Kicking of either foot with surgical precision from stoppages would be priceless, not to mention his handball to the RIGHT OPTION EVERY TIME.

Judds weaknesses are Diesels strengths and vice versa.

Can't choose really.

If only we had both at once.

Diesel. Juddy has been absolutely brilliant at Carlton and outside of Kouta's absolute best is the greatest Carlton player since Diesel but Williams was a better player and made us a better team than Judd. Those Ablett Jnr like numbers he racked up year after year were before the stoppage dominated football of today, he just won clearance after clearance and delivered the ball with precision every time. Best Carlton player I've seen (1989-current).
