Can anyone give me an opinion/review on it? Is it worth the price? Are there cheaper/similar options avaliable?

Thanks :thumbsu:

They won't be getting a shit camera if you buy them that. Canon's are rarely shit though. Most big brands are rarely shit, Olympus, Pentax, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji, Casio (I got one)...

I checked eBay for the price and it's about $450. That's the cheap price!

That's a lot for a compact you don't need to spend that much.

And 14 megapixels is really too much for such a small camera. You get bigger files and not much extra resolution gained because of lens/sensor limitations.

I would spend less and get maybe a 4-6 x zoom. And 8-12 megapixels.

But if you get them this they won't be getting a shit camera.

Spend the money and get a G11, shoots raw, has a hot shoe for a flash and is the best point & shoot on the market

Does anyone who has a working knowledge of digital cameras, have a counter-argument to the above??

Also in regards to raw format, if you do not have photoshop will the quality be compromised?

I'm looking to buy a camera, and the ones mentioned in this thread are about my price range so i'm after some opinions.

Also are there any standout places to buy from in terms of price. I.e. america. or asia or something?? Or websites that have good deals.

You don't need photoshop but it will help, Canon will ship a Raw converter anyway.

Like I said its the best P&S out there and will lead you to a dSLR after a while

PS you'll get it dirt cheap from TopBuy or Digi world international

If you're only going to do P&S photography then you'll be paying for a lot of features you will never actually use. Also it is bulkier than other P&S's due to having those extra controls. I've never owned a DSLR but do appreciate the more advanced features in a small camera. Really not happy with my current Canon's (A2000) dumbed down interface.

I don't own the G11, but I do own the previous G10 and it's without a doubt the best compact camera that I've used. Incredibly robust and sturdy build. It's a pleasure to use. I love the amount of manual control the camera gives, and dedicated ISO dial and exposure compensation dials come in very handy. But it really comes down to what you want in a camera, and what feels right in your hands.

Raw is raw, so the quality will not change not matter what application you use. I find I edit my photographs much more in Lightroom than Photoshop, so you may be able to save a heap of money in that regard.

I've found the current prices in the US are much better than Australia even with the exchange rate. At the moment I'm looking at the Olympus E-P2 and can get it brand new on Amazon for $1080 AUD with int warranty, while in Australia I'm looking at around $1600 for the same kit.

If you do buy from the US or overseas, you may need to jump on ebay and pick up an Australian charger adapter, but they're not too much.

In Australia I find Digital Camera Warehouse to be my preferred dealer, their prices aren't the cheapest, but they've always been great to buy from and very easy to get in contact with.

Cheers for the info.

This is the cheapest site i've been able to find it in Australia, or US (brand new that it is).

http://buymart.com.au/canon-powershot-g11-p-41939.html anyone bought from this site before?

well i emailed that site asking about their warranty, and they replied with

Hi Delroy,

The item is covered with our local service warranty. the warranty only cover Factory fault, no human cause faults, no staright refund, unless the problem is irrepairable and no unit replacement available.

Thanks

So has anyone bought from buymart.com.au?? and does that warranty sound alright for a camera?
