Well i guess its unanimous then if we are 2 and 6 we do extend.........mediocrity
Again, we're looking at extending before the season starts.

not yet needs to perform next year, his plan is finals 2012 it would not look good if he went backwards when he has only finished 15th & 12th so backwards from that is just not acceptable. must finish at least 9th or 10th to get another 1 year contract. then finals after that. finals 2012 give him at least two more.

Dimma has given us an inkling but by no means confirmed he is indeed the ONE. i wouyld have thought half way into 2012 we will be a whole lot clearer than we are right now. In 2011 we saw two sides in WC and ESS that many would have argued 12 months ago were no further advanced than us, rocket past us. the only factor I can put a fine point on is they were both better coached / managed through the course of the year...we WEREN'T...if it were to happen again, id have no misgiving about sacking him. To give some context it would be like port A and lions soaring past us in 2012.

so to answer the OP, YES we are going to early...if we dont make finals in 2012 Id be sacking the lot of them

Nah, if we're 2 and 6 we'll get the torches and pitchforks out and run Hardwick outta town. That should get rid of the mediocrity tag.

If it's just win/loss what if we're 6 and 2? 10 years?

I think you have to give Dimma more than 2 more years!!

Otherwise , they take short cuts.

To me Maric is a bit of a short cut.

If management , footy dept etc... knew they were there for 8 years would they chase Maric???

I doubt it, better long term options to get a premiership IMO!

If you think players like Cotchin and Martin are working hard at their games to win a flag in 2020 you are dream shrooms. Our window will be with in 4. If we win one in 8 years we would be in an era like Geelong now.

A few things:

Firstly, CC did not say we would be extending his deal, in fact he tried quite hard to dodge the inference. All he said was discussions would start. This is a very minor and pedantic point, but it has major consequences. One means extending now. The other however means opening the discussion on:

A) how two evaluate the past two years
B) determine what Dimma wants/needs to do to take the side forward
C) determine if RFC agrees with this, and it matches the direction the club is going
D) determine what he needs from the club contract wise, and what the club is prepared to offer (both in terms on money and duration)

I think the second is more likely, and depending upon the direction discussions take, it could take months to resolve

Secondly, assuming both parties are on the same page, it will come down to has Dimma taken the side to where it needs to be in the time given, with the available resources. Let's be blunt, he was given a shit house list, we cannot dodge that bullet. As such, much of his assessment will be not on ladder position, but player development. I know this will make some cry, but it's where we are at. Finals and flags with our list is still a work in progress, but the important thing is to make sure Dimma is making progress.

Finally, there will be the issue of pay and duration. Dimma will expect a pay bump, like any sensible employee, and he will want security. CC will be wanting to save bucks, and maintain flexibility. If both are close, this is done in days, but as we saw with Lyon, if there is a difference of view, it may take months to resolve.

Let the discussions start, review his performance, and decide next steps. Now is the time to start this process IMO.

Well said 74. That's about as good a post as you get to read around here. :thumbsu:

I would say that a coach performs better if he doesnt feel as though there is a gun to his head in case things go pear shaped.... But look at Clarkson and Ratten this year.

Dimma hasnt yet won me over. I want him to and want to give him every opportunity to. Only things going horribly bad next year would warrant a change.

But I honestly dont see where we go if we need to make a change.

Good point about Cotchin and Martin being discontent to wait 8 years for a premiership. Cotchin to me looks the type of guy who wants success and wont be content with the Richmond deadlines of the past.

.. You've been saying that since you were sending letters to Danny Frawley telling him to make Mark Chaffey a bigger part of the midfield rotations

Yeah but Frawley cant read. Must be hard to draw a picture of Chaffey and a football ground when you are limited to crayons.

I know you don't know what I think, but just to repeat, I have been saying 5-10 years most of this year eg. 2016-2021 This is a living projection but adding Maric etc.. does not bring it forward imo.

Happy to deflect the ridicule, let me have it after 2015, don't hold back then, we will see who is right!

The question was ..."Why" will he deliver a flag Toby ???

Please explain ... elaborate ...

Judging by what Cameron said we're looking at extending before next season starts.

So we arent extending before the season starts, that makes me sleep better:thumbsu:

This not a Dimma baggging post.... but What has he achieved?

The list is not his doing... So those saying he has built a good list obviously dont realise he isn't the head recruiter or list manager...

Why extend? he has 1 more year.

Personally I want to see him perform under REAL pressure. Those wanting to take the pressure off him seriously have no idea what it takes to be a finals coach. He needs to show he can perform under pressure.

Do we really know if he is a good match day coach yet??? remember everything he does at the moment is "for development" and bad moves can be excused on the back of that.... when that changes to everything he does is done to win we cans start to see if he has the makings of a GREAT coach.

I dont think we know exactly what we have yet.... time will tell and we have plenty of time to make a decision.

If our list stays fit we should be pushing for finals next season No Excuses.... 3 seasons is enough.

Not guaranteed. It may happen, but I reckon there is a fair bit of water to pass under the bridge before its done

I think he has got good enough results in his first 2 years to warrant the extention and given the club are looking at opening talks it would be fair to say they do as well.

not good enough results? bhjeezus RT! what was he expected to achieve? Finals?.. with THAT list he inherited?? with the clean out in year 1? with a team with the youngest average age and game experience in the league??

He's turned a total rabble into a competitive unit with clear and obvious upside, progressively cohering around a solid game plan, imprving goal kicking options and narrowing down list weakness to a few key areas, complimented by some out and out starts that are (at last) getting the player development and off field support they deserve. Dimma, both individually in his specific role- and as part of aclub that is acting in a unified way to deliver our next premiership - has done absolutely everything that could be expected.

Not sure if you remember 80Vid but that thread was probably the funniest in history around here ... i'll give a bump when i could be @rsed

Threads around the Frawley time were quite funny. I think it was the only way to keep sanity during the time of that bumpkin. I think people decided to act as insane as the decision to hire him.

I guess what is funnier was that his suggestions were meant to be serious.

Best threads during Danny Frawleys time should be put to their own section as they would make great reading over the summer.

Hardwick a new 2 year deal please

Yeah there were people wanting Jade Rawlings as our coach after a couple of wins against a struggling West Coast and Essendon.

Even had his name all figured out 'Jade the Blade'. I thought at one stage that a crowd scene singalong from the Simpsons was going to land us another dud coach.
