This is a stupid idea. Anyone championing it hasn't thought it through.

It means a team A with a 13-10 record who WINS their 6 double up games has 40 premiership points

Team B with a 10-13 record who LOSES their 6 double up games also has 40 premiership points and finishes above team A on percentage.

8th 10-13......114% 40 pts
9th 13-10......111% 40 pts

It means teams are still playing for the same length of time (2 hours) and putting the same effort in, to win 2 premiership points, while the next week, that same effort is worth 4 points. It's unimaginably stupid. Imagine going to a SA Showdown (because they always play each other twice) knowing that it will always be half as important as most other matches.

Whoever came up with this idea should be shot. It's seriously that stupid and it doesn't work on any level.

I actually don't mind this suggestion at all.

Basically, instead of clubs dining out on mediocre teams and getting 2 easy kills for 8pts(which regularly happens), Hardwick has suggested that double up games should only be worth 2pts.

Win both, you get 4pts, win 1 of the 2 games you only get 2pts.

This would undoubtedly stop some poorer sides making finals because they received some double ups against the cellar dwellers.

And if a cellar-dweller manages a win?

David Schwartz used to talk about this on SEN about 10 years ago, so it’s not a new idea…. I like it, current draw is ridiculous…. Although doesn’t matter much for the games where Geelong play MCG tenants at their home ground as a “home” game.
