Can anyone give me any info on this guy and what he was like as a player? He has just been appointed coach of my local football team and I just wanted to know a bit about him.
Thanks in advance.

Now be nice.

From the encyclopedia of AFL footballers.

"Dion Miles: Kangaroos. 2 games 1 goal 1998. DOB: 9/8/78. 176cm. 77 kg.
A midfielder from Chanel College.Miles won the Roos reserves B&F in 1997 but could not secure a regular senior spot. He had a knee reconstruction in June 1998 that put him out for the first half of 1999."

Saw one of his games and his goal. A pacy midfielder whose career was wrecked by the knee reco.

Went to school with him in geelong,he was two years under me but i knew him quite well because my brother was in same year.Top bloke and a very good junior footballer, north supporter and was a(rookie?) on our list in 96/97 i think, had a hard time from his old man as i remember,he played a few games for our school team when he was 14/15 and did very well.
hope that helps!:)

I watched a bit of him in the reserves in the 97/98 season. Came out of the blue to win the B&F in 97. In 98 he performed consistently well as a hard running wingman with a good turn of pace and a reasonable kick. Fairly lightly built but knew how to run to the right spots.

Clearly remember him being given a real rev-up at 3/4 time in one ressies game - 'you've been knocking on the door for the last few weeks... if you want to make the seniors you've got to knock it down'. Could have been Bomber Thompson! Subsequently got his chance at a couple of games but a knee injury put paid to his career.

I saw one of his games and his first goal, a handball from the king at the G and he slotted it from about 30m.
Was pretty small for AFL and I think the knee injury was only delaying the inevitable.
Which club is he going to coach?

Whats wrong in asking who the guy is?

Nothing wrong with knowing a bit more recent club history, and/or looking things up yourself. The internet can be so educational.

The one word response might not have been intended this way, but it sounded disrespectful of both the poster and the player.

Carry on.

Is he deaf or something?

A visitor comes on the North Board and asks a valid question. If you know something you answer. If you don't you either stay quiet or you act like a smart arse.

Played a fair bit of footy with Dion.

I'm pretty sure he won't be a playing coach because last time I spoke to him he weighed about 100kg. Still has alot of problems with his legs.

Hes pretty smart and pretty professional as a coach. He has coached some dud sides but

Yeh he's not playing, just coaching. I met him the other week and he seems pretty switched on. Hopefully we can get some decent recruits to work with him as we have been down for a few years.

He will be o.k as a coach. I overheard him 'coaching' from the interchange bench when had broken his leg. His call of the game was impressive. :thumbsu:

Just let him know that I refer to him as The Country.

Very talented as a junior. Was playing VFA under 19's when he was 15 yo for Werribee (He grew up there) Went to Jets and from there went to to NM where he won the BF for the 2'nds. After NM went back to Werribee (I think) and Hoppers Crossing. Coached down Gippsland way a couple of years ago (Paul Hudson's old side ??). I think he barracked for Carlton as a kid but I saw him at the NM v Bulldogs this year. Been in a good paddock but has a good footy brain. Should be a good get for your club.

Oh for sure has been in a good paddock and wont be playing but did come across as having a brain when it came to footy. I'll be hopefully working along side him so will be good to learn from him.
