1986: Tim Watson, Williams, Thompson & Merritt all succumb to long term knee and other injuries. Essendon bomb out.


1993:

Norm Smith medalist and player of the finals Michael Long.

1994:

First practice game - Michael Long does knee for the first of several times.... Other injuries take hold - Essendon bomb out

2000:

Norm Smith medalist and (arguably) player of the finals: James Hird

2001:

Can i at least ask for a hammy the week before you play us? Otherwise i think you will be alright. Your fitness staff is 200% better now than it was back then (the one place the Dons really did lag back then).

Anyway, I'm sure (touch wood) God couldn't be so cruel. He's already taken Hird away for three years...surely it wouldn't happen again! (I'm praying)
