Is it true that Richmond gave up a top 20 draft pick for Jordan
McMuffin

Yep and in my opinion, it will go down as my personal worst trade we have made.

As soon as I got wind of it, which was the day before it happened, I couldn't and didn't want to believe we would be so stupid.

Alas, we were.

I know for a fact our recruiting manager was absolutely shattered that they (Miller and Wallace) made the trade....On draft night he had a few expletives to say at the table when one of his favorite kids was still available but we had to go with structure in Rance. We could of had both Rance and the one he really wanted. Which wasn't Callum Ward but Scott Selwood.

I still can't fathom how they made the decision.....the mind boggles!

Leigh Tudor to Geelong. Don't know what we got for him.

Amazing as it may seem, Tudor came to Geelong in an astonishing 3-player package for the princely sum of Pick 123 back in the 1992 draft (pre-season i think). Liam Pickering, Leigh Tudor and Darren Steele. Pickering won a B & F in a side that had the likes of Gary Sr, Hocking, Couch etc, while Tudor will go down in folklore as the man who kicked the pass to Gary Sr in the 1994 preliminary final. Steele played a few games at Geelong, but this is just a small chapter in the litany of good players Geelong has received from the Kangaroos, starting from way back in 1973 with Doug Wade courtesy of the 10-year rule.

Actually could be a good topic for a thread....:)

Didn't he go from Cats TO Roos?

Remember Richmond taking Kent Kingsley (PSD) off Geelongs hands and also Getting Ottens from richmond in a different trade for 12 (Danny Myer)and 16 (Adam Pattison)
Geez, of all the horrific Richmond recruiting decisions, I don't think I'd single those out.

Kingsley turned out to be a waste of time, sure, but we got him for nothing with a PSD pick. Ottens for picks 12 & 16 is reasonable. Wish we could have kept him, but he was set on leaving and plenty of clubs in similar circumstances have lost good players for less.

Pick #2 and #18 in 2002 for a broken down Wayne Carey

actually that got us Jason Torney as well. and in one of the worst drafts in history, what did we actually lose? Ps. we traded pick 4, not pick 2.

Tim Walsh?

Pick #75 in 1998 Ken McGregor, instead of Matthew Pavlich

why is that an adelaide issue? besides a 150 game player from #75 in an average draft is great result.

however at the time trading a young midfielder who refused to play for you for a promising key forward wasn't that bad on the face of things. 40+ goals from an 18 year old in the sanfl is a fair effort

perhaps i just look at it with rose tinted glasses because groom took us to a flag in 95

Groom was a stud at the time. McLeod was the hottest midfield prospect in the country. Freo actually had to give up a draft pick to get groom as well - Cornes has always said if he were still coach (he was let go a couple of weeks before the trade) that he wouldn't have signed off on it. Groom was that good a prospect.

Kinda like trading Gumbleton as 18yr old, and then saying he was a dud because of injuries.

Wasn't he a zone selection, which we took with #75 while we could of taken any other SA player (which included Pavlich)

Not sure though, that's just what I've gatherred

Not a zone selection I think, just that every club was allowed only one 17yo and you decided on McGregor over Pavlich.

But obviously every other club made the mistake of overlooking Pav as well. It probably just hits Crows fans a little harder since he was in your backyard and was an Adelaide fan as a kid.

That article says Brown didn't even nominate for the draft.

There's a difference between clubs not being able to guarantee him before the draft that they would pick him up and actually overlooking him in the draft.

Sssh, it's more entertaining his way. ;)
