Under the new rule it was a free every day of the week.

The issue with this rule is players have to go against instinct. They played and trained for their entire life to attack the ball, put your body over the ball. Sure, they would've ben told to keep their feet but that doesn't apply to every single contest.

Due to one stroke of the pen players have to change their natural/honed instinct about how they attack every single ground contest.

The good thing to come of this, is that players can no longer lead with their head into a contest, make contact with someone's leg, and expect a free kick.

I thought it was interesting Hirdy actually admitted after the game that we'd practised the recent few weeks regarding the rule - he quickly pulled himself up and said "Not how to win a free kick, but how to not give one away." But I've no doubt "how to win one" was also part of the preparation. We got several free kicks due to it, we certainly adapted to the rule a lot better than they did.

To be fair that should have been holding the ball. I'm glad that we won and he gave it to the umpire.

Just gotta get over it, you win some, you lose some, Dempsey needs to lead by example now.

He got a goal from the free kick, but he acted a bit like he had been shot when it occured

I didn't really think he had played it up that much, but now he's gone on the Hangar and basically said as much.
