Twenty years ago, I knew a journalist with 'The Age' who used to catch a cab to the city and back again, from his house in Warrandyte, (near country for those in other states) every day.
The first thing he'd say to the driver after giving him his destination was, "If you don't say a word during the journey, there's an extra five dollars in it for you." He reasoned that the three hours work he could do in transit was more important than pretending interest in some asinine convo. with a cabbie.
Also, barbers should be compulsirorily gagged. Even though they too have a captive audience, they have nothing significant to contribute to public conversation.
