Roast Disspointed in Jolly

I been dissapointed in Jolly output this season. We gave up our 1st 3 pick in the 09 Draft 1st and 3rd Rounder. That tells me that we are getting a Dominate Ruckman. But I think he has been good but nothing close to Dominate. He is better then Fraser and Wood is Still Develpoing so he has easily kept his Spot as Number 1 Ruckman.

But I think if Wood can come on Strongly Soon he could make a Case for the Number 1 Ruck Spot, Jolly can be 2nd Ruck and Play in the Forward Line.

He has made us a Better Side but I Expected more when we Traded for him

I agree he hasn't tore up one game this year, he has played good in games but has not had the influence I expected.

Not doing as much around the ground as I would like but his performance in the hitouts is close to what I expected.

Maybe I am biased because i have never seen a Collingwood ruckman get a hitout to advantage.

I actually agree with you TD  Expected alot more out of Jolly but that might be also that I didn't really watch much Sydney games last year so I didn't see how he played at Sydney.

As you said he's our best ruckmen but nothing near what I was expecting. Ball has shown more then Jolly IMO.

Jolly has not been able to produce the same output he did at the swans, and has just been ok and needs to lift, but he has been without a doubt our best ruckmen so far.

However my view is that our ruckmen get get absolutely no leniency at all from the umpires, and get pinged for any minor ruck infringement that every other ruckmen in the league gets away with.

Jolly to me he looks extremely frustrated and disillusioned with the treatment he gets from the umpires now he is in the black and white. If he loses the front position he can't do anything without getting called for a free against and just lets the other ruckmen get the tap now.

Jolly seems to get a high amount of free kicks for holding in the ruck contests which is a load of crap, considering every ruck holds during contests.

One example, in the game against Freo in the first quarter Sandilands grabs onto Jollys arm with both hands in a boundry line throw in, yet gets no free kick, and in the very next ruck context 20 metres down the line, Jolly gets pinged for holding onto Sandliands arm  Even Wood got a free against him for outmuscling Hawkins in a boundary line throw in, and got called for throwing him out of the contest, which Sandlilands did quite a number of times against him the week prior.

Hopefully Jolly is able to works around his frustration, and regain his form that produced at the Swans through working around what he is allowed to get away with.

I think he played a really serviceable game against geelong this week.

I have noticed he has a tendency to get muscled out of the ruck against bigger bodied players. However I have reveled in seeing him tap to advantage (especially when it's to Lukey B).

IMO he seems to have settled into the side and is playing consistent and predictable football. He's not a star and will not win games off his own boot, but he's doing what we've drafted him for, so I think the roast is unworthy.

I do agree that Jolly gets alot of frees pinged against him. He does it and gets pinged but when the opposition ruckmen does the same thing Jolly gets nothing. I think on Friday Jolly gave away a free and then mouthed off at the umpire and gave a 50 away. So clearly he's getting annoyed at the umpiring. Maybe we should go to the AFL for answers. Geelong seem to get away with alot. Holding our tall forwards arms so they can't go for the mark and always diving forward to get in the backs.Just annoys the crap out of me :(

I have read that Jolly gives away the most Frees in the Comp - I Think

Well they why did we give away 2 Draft pick in the 1st 3 Rounds. Where we just should of Traded our 1st Rounder for Jolly

For memory, because Sydney were trying to eek out a better deal. That and, we weren't looking for a young development player with pick 14(?). We wanted a ready made player in a position we were deficient in - the ruck.

I think of it this way, we paid a 1st rounder for Wood, and a 1st and 3rd for Jolly.

Given that Jolly is a tried and true ruckman, we knew we would get reasonable output from him, and I think paid accordingly. He has produced serviceable games thus far. He will not and will never be a star ruck, he is not Sandilands or Cox.

Wood was more of an unknown quantity having only played 18 games over three years for Brisbane. His output would be in the hands of developmental staff and those that thought he might blossom.

Wood has yet to prove himself IMO and I think we're more likely to be asking why we paid a 1st round pick for him instead of a 3rd. He was woeful this week with 9 hitouts and 5 possessions.

Jolly is doing his job, Wood is not.

Well Wood has been Injured.

You do make a Very Good Point. Well we probably so far Wood has not live up the 1st Round Pick we gave up for him but he does have the Potential too.

Hope you're right TD. I am a big fan of his and hope he kills it. :thumbsu:

As you could tell, So am I. Shows a lot of Potential but he can Frustrate you at the same time too

In my humble opinion, I would love to see him go forward more often. Always looks very dangerous.

There were rumours about him having a tight hammy coming into the Cats game, might explain him being outmuscled by Blake far too easily.
Definitely needs to lift if fit.

Sorry, it is too simplistic to say Jolly needs to dominate to be worth the picks we gave up for him. To say that is to ignore what Jolly has done for our team this year. He might not 'dominate' the ruck in the classic sense, but his presence has allowed our midfield to 'dominate' for most of the season so far. Up until this year, for the past decade, we have had to set our midfield up to play off the opposition ruckman. In other words, set up defensively assuming that we will lose more taps than we would win. Do you really think it is a coincidence that with the arrival of Jolly, suddenly we have more midfielders kicking goals, and Collingwood is scoring more heavily? No, as far as I am concerned, Jolly has been the best thing to happen to Collingwood since the 1990 premiership (okay, maybe slight exaggeration there).

This.

I'm no longer stressing when we go into a match because I know we have a decent ruckman.

He's never been Peter Moore around the ground. He's doing exactly what they brought him in for, albeit not often enough atm.

Needs to stop giving frees away as well.

I think he has been winning as much football in general play as he usually does but has been very poor in the ruck not enough hit outs is getting beaten most weeks. Still I have faith he will improve
