Mind you what i have said won't happen and Fraser will be back in this week. And who knows he may have a blinder but that will be followed up by 5 or 6 substanded games, which is what he has done throughout his career moreso the latter part of it. Where as Wood, who knows cause hes never been given that opportunity over a long period.

Not going to get into another Wood v Fraser argument.

Both have been ordinary in 2010, Fraser one good game from 6 and Wood no good games from 3. Both had opportunity to stake claim as the number 2 and both have failed.

I feel Fraser is the best for now, you dont need to go back to 03 to see good Fraser....go back and watch the first 6 or so rounds of 2009, a fit Fraser was one of our best players every week. The problem is that a non-fit Fraser is rubbish.

Wood is the future, but playing him as number 1 ruck in the magoo's may help his development even more than just coming on for bursts as the back-up ruck.

Jolly is a much bigger concern than both tho, it seems we have placed the pies ruck malaise onto him and he is now also a soft ruck that offers little physical impact on a game.

VFL is a different ball game, Wood needs AFL experience. Fraser has never been a ruckman so how is he going to be a back ruckman either. He has always been "good" as you say around the ground when fit, never in the hitouts. Fraser for the first 9 rounds last year was the sole ruckman and played some good footy around the ground. Always got belted in the hitouts. The time is now for Wood.

Jolley i agree with he is a worry, lets hope he lifts his game as he can go along way to shaping our season with his output.

With out sounding rude, i think anyone who bags out Jolly for his performance so far this year has no idea about footy.
He and Luke Ball have been out standing and its proof is in the position we are in on the ladder.
Yes we have come off a tough loss to the Cats, but the demons game would have been a loss in years past because of these 2 contributing in all areas of the game.
Against Freo I would of had Jolly in our best few players. He contested so well with Sandilands and pretty much got us a win.
When you watch Freo set up around stoppages you will notice they always are on the attacking side of the ball, usually set up with 2 or 3 runners on the outside. What this means is if you do win possession of the footy you can run and link but if you dont you will get hurt. Jolly broke even with Sandi around the ground and in the middle and got us plenty of goals.
I think the same guys bagging out Jolly would have been the same blokes ripping Stunning Steve McKee a few years ago.
Mckee was quality. Once again if not hitting the ball to advantage breaking even most times and allowing our better clearance players win the footy.
With Swan, Ball, Pendlebury, Thomas, Johnson, Obree and Beams we have a group that will beat most midfields in clearances each week, and Jolly is bringing them all into the game.

For me right now Thomas, Shaw and Jolly would be top 3 in the Copeland, Travis of course would also be right up there.

Jolly for me 2 big massive thumbs up and great no cut that FANTASTIC pick up. Mark my words, bookmark it what ever you like, come September Darren Jolly will be worth his weight in Gold. With a bit of luck he wil also have his 2nd premiership medal.

VFL is a different ball game, Wood needs AFL experience.
Wood needs to simply play.....how is getting beaten in the ruck by Hawkins going to help him??

Chuck him at VFL level, let him play 90% of game time in the ruck and hopefully he would dominate and physically impose himself on the game.

Fraser has never been a ruckman so how is he going to be a back ruckman either. He has always been "good" as you say around the ground when fit, never in the hitouts.
This is a massive myth....

There is a big gulf between Cox/Sandi and the rest.

Depending on form, blokes like Ottens, Jolly, Jamar, Hille, Fraser, Maric, Hudson, Charman, Clark can all lay claim to being a good ruck.

Fraser was picked as ruck for the Vic team a couple of years ago, and was playing well.....but then he injured himself again.

Josh has shown he is a more than capable ruck, who is brilliant around the ground.

No point going up to rnd 9 as he injured himself against the aints in rnd 7.

In the first 6 rounds he av 21 HOs per game.....he can hold his own in the ruck....So far this year Jolly is av 20 HOs per game, yet Jolly is supposed to be a dominant tap ruck.

Jolley i agree with he is a worry, lets hope he lifts his game as he can go along way to shaping our season with his output.

Jolly, like all our rucks, needs to pull his finger out and get a bit of mongrel about him.....at the moment it looks as tho he is in self preservation mode.

You're right that all the rucks need to pull the finger out.
Wood needs more time in the AFL and has shown glimpses.

Jolly may well be in "self preservation mode" this early in the year and during our resounding wins I can't see why that would be an issue as we will hopefully be reaping benifts late in the year. I would hate to see him get a senseless injury.

Fraser needs to get as much AFL time as we can get into him with an eye to later in the year too. We have not been able to risk him during the last 3, very important games and would like to see come in when a bit of the heat is off. Brisbane look about as beatable as they get at the moment, but the hard Gabba will not suit Fraser and the WB Game at Etihad would not be the ideal with his dicky knees so I'd look at Jolly having a rest in round 12 versus Melbourne at the MCG.

Wood should play every game if fit.

Agree re Fraser, the hard GABBA and Etihad prob not the best games to bring him back for.

Jolly needs to watch the ball at the centre bounce, I noticed it at the Melbourne game that he watches the other ruck instead of just jumping at the ball.....it sh1ts me as he should just watch the pill.

Wood needs to show that he deserves a game...he has been poor in his 3 games so far.

I reckon that Jolly has rto get use to playing the Collingwood style of game.

What i mean by this is he was always good at stoppages with Sydney cause that's the sort of game they play,
Collingwood move the ball quickly anmd play on bigger grounds he has to get use to running a lot more and adjust to our style, then he"ll be fine.

There is a perfectly good reason why Jolly has been watching the oppo ruckman.
That reason is that for 4 round 2-5 he was crucified by the umps, both umps, every time he laid a hand on the other ruckman or used his strength to get the best position. He plays for the Pies now (which seems to be at the detriment holding wise compared to Sydney) and has been working hard on not giving away these free's which were obviously frustrating Him, Malthouse and most supporters during this time.

It only happens at centre bounces....people should take a close look on Sat night. If being harsh it looks as though he is afraid of the physical contact.

Boundary throw-ins he is fine, and he throws his weight around...this is where he is giving the frees away.

Tis frustrating as he is a big body and he should be the one jumping into the other rucks and intimidating them.

He is better then Fraser and Wood is Still Develpoing so he has easily kept his Spot as Number 1 Ruckman.

But I think if Wood can come on Strongly Soon he could make a Case for the Number 1 Ruck Spot, Jolly can be 2nd Ruck and Play in the Forward Line.

Jolly hasn't lived up to the expectation but he isn't doing too bad at the moment.

As for Wood he has a long long way to go, so much so I'm pinning my hopes on Keeffe. Yep, Keeffe's the man IMO.

Agreed, keefe has been improving so much in the VFL and i think he can make it at AFL level.

Send him back to Sydney, I say!:thumbsu:

I reckon they'd have him back in a shot too. Big loss really, but at least Sydney have the courage to actually look after a player who has given to the club and decides it's time to move on.
Kudos to them.:thumbsu:

Jolly has been good and doing HIS job.

He was never a top ruckman at Sydney and people need to understand what his job is at Collingwood.

He plays the older style ruck game, plays a kick behind play or a kick ahead of play (ie. runs forward). This style of ruckman comes into their own during the finals when you need a big smart playing roaming the ground.
