Honestly I find it pretty strange that council are even considering allowing play on it this year.

Just a strange situation all round. Surely there is a junior Sunday-only ground somewhere in Whitehorse, EB just play there for the year, not ideal but hardly uncommon for clubs getting upgrades.
Why they aren't playing on the north oval is hard to understand. They don't wan't us to use it because the old rooms are going to be refurbished, but next year we play on the south oval while the current pavilion is being demolished and then rebuilt and we will be using the old rooms. Really is seems to be the same situation with the grounds reversed.

Warburton had that issue a few years ago. Grass was laid in record time and even though the landscape contractors who did the work said don't use the oval this year, council / league forced it to be used and the whole lot was wrecked in no time and had to be done again the following year.
From what I've heard the contractor for Warburton's resurfacing has a reputation for real cheap and nasty work. Apparently they did a number on Chirnside Park's 2nd oval too. But I suppose that's what happens when councils hire the cheapest contractors they can find.

Perhaps we all should be on council.
The $68M should be spent on the entire precinct there - yep update the courts (that stadium is well past it’s use by date), make sure there’s two functional grounds with appropriate facilities etc.

Second both cliff and gmac are right on here - either the rams use the north ground (using the current south Pav/rooms) or play at Donny.

Only ‘open’ grounds which come to mind are eley (far from ideal for senior footy) or the 2nd ground at Elgar (or use the main and put BHN on the second). Forest hill/nuna using Koonung rules it out and no rooms at FH. Alternatively the rams could use each ‘other’ ground in Whitehorse for home game each - eg one at Blackburn one at mitcham one at Vermont etc to reduce additional traffic

Absolute nightmare for a club to be moving around for the year - bringing stuff in and out is a huge job and having to do it every game would be a shocker.

IMO you need a home base - Heatherdale would seem to be an option?

Agreed as someone who has been on coaching staffs and volunteered on committee for 15 plus years now, having everything stored at your “home base” and having to move it and take it to a different home venue each week adds 2-4 hours to an already long day we all know it usually starts around 7am especially now with 4 games on each home Saturday and finishing around 6:30-7 so a 12 hour day as it is! So well done to all the EB people who get the job done this season hopefully doesn’t go unnoticed by the players the effort it takes to keep the off field stuff going!

Wholeheartedly agree! Moving from
home to home far from ideal. Maybe Doncaster could work? Or Heatherdale or pinewood (wav blues junior ground) neither too far from EB.

Or just let ‘em on the north ground!

Probably too late to do anything this year, everything's already arranged. I guess it will depend on, if and when the council gives the go ahead to play on the new turf.

Is there a hypothetical contingency plan in place from the club/committee/league just incase the ground isn’t given the green light?
I have no details, but the old Nunawading ground with social and change rooms is vacant and 3 or 4 min away. However, a massive dog poop cleanup would be needed if the ground was used.

The council used the wrong grass, kikuyu which couldn't handle the cold. One well accredited turf supplier refused to quote, saying it wouldn't work. Yarra Glen's ground was done in santa ana couch, layed in February and played on in May. Second try at Warby worked because the right grass was used.
