All heresay saying a D1 side would beat a B grade side. Highly doubtful though even if said B grade sides were struggling. Hampton actually strung a few good games together when it was too late last year, Parkdale wouldn't have 'beated' or belted either for mine.

wrong pal. Parkdale's grand final team would would have beated both Marcellin and Hampton last year. No doubt about it.

I suspect Banyule may have too.

To put it into perspective.....
Parkdale have picked up 4 or 5 quality new players so they are a better team than last year.
Parkdale just beat Fitzroy in Rd 1.
Fitzroy beats NOBS in a praccy match by around 25 goals.
Fitzroy loses to Ajax by 2 pts in a practice match.
Ajax are getting thumped each week in B-Grade....

Hampton last year weren't too bad.........Hampton this year are terrible from all reports.....

You are a Joke mate, Did you even seen Parkdale or Banyule last year? The Quaility of D1 is much stronger than you may think.

Yes I did mate, I saw the 2nd Semi and the GF. I saw that in the 2nd Semi Oakley scared the sh*t out of the entire Banyule defence - they wouldn't go near him once he threw a couple of punches their way.
I have no doubt the standard of D1 is getting better but to say they are as good as or better than any of the B-Grade sides is totally ridiculous.
Oakleigh and OI who both have not won a game would beat any team in D1 convincingly.
I think you should go and watch a B Grade game mate.

From all reports Banyules pay roll was as big as most A grade clubs, I've got no doubt they could have competed in B grade last year.

Don't want to distract the D1 talk, how are Melb High tracking this year? The talk coming from the High School preseason was of going straight back up!!

i have played in B grade C grade and now D1 at ormond and i can guarantee this is the easiest standard of football i have played in...
the depth of teams is not there like in b grade and i dont care if u were banyule u would prob have got relegated maybe won a game or 2... u need the increases in the divisions and hopefully ur team picks up a few players to ensure u stay competitive in that division and not lose half ur team when u go down! every team in D1 has 5-10 really good players where in C grade its 10-15 and B grade they have 15-20 and so forth!

When we were relegated from B Grade (1997), we were that bad most D1 teams would've beaten us. This was the year after playing in a Semi vs Trinity at Elsternwick. We dropped off that fast!! On the odd occasion, where you get a really bad B Grade team, and a really good D1 team, it could possibly happen.

Never intended to denigrate the mighty B graders.. heaven forbid…. most should be in Premier anyway! The entire point was to illustrate that the very best teams (the ones that come along every once in a while) in D1 would win some games in B grade; albeit as stated by others impossible to prove.

HBF is spot on. Could play a bit in his day they reckon.....

hey boys, i dont think the jump from d2 to d1 is actually massive, glen eiras side of last year would have been a strong force in d1, but at the end of last year we lost about 15 players from our senior side. id imagine similar would have happened to st johns cause they were struggling last week against us.

well at ormond we lost around 20-25 players this year most who played ones and we went down a grade and smashed u by over a 100 points! that tell ya something!

Well, it seems like the D1competition is starting to solidify early.
Four team out the front, one well out in front.
At least it doesn't seem like Ormond will fall down too low.
The big question is Willy to go down.

10 teams still by the looks of things.

I hear Willy are flying with 90 on the track most nights. Given this, they are my 2012 outright favourites.

My early predictions for the year are:

Willy
NOBS
Whitefriars
Peninsula
OGS
Ormond
St Johns
MHSOB
Glen Eira
Old Mentone

Can someone from Willy please explain what is going on over there. They have been a remarkbly strong and competitive unit over the last few seasons and from pre-season reports it sounded like they were on a cake walk through D1.

Whats going on?
