http://Spot on, bedford. We went in thinking they're not much chop so we'll rest half a dozen and wait to play them again in the 2nd semi. A naive and infantile question.
Simply put, we were outplayed on a wretched ground in wretched conditions. It was a good old fashioned scrap and the team that applied themselves best got the deserved result.

I'm with you Uncle. The loss will merely serve to re-ignite the passion, fire Owie up, and now make you guys white hot favourites for the silverware. I'm sure Jase is on the same page as me.

I reckon the loss for the Rovers came at an ideal time for them.

It's much better to have a loss now rather than later on in the finals, where the pressure to win would be enormous-especially if you just come off an 18-0 record.

Not as dramatic as the world has ended, just the stak is over.

Pretty simple.
Wouldn't read too much into a loss in those conditions. Still the best unit going around and deserved flag favs. That said, finals are a different kettle of fish and there are four in it with a show in my view.

With all due respect, it wasn't a game of footy. It was a day of limited opportunities and Williamstown took theirs. I highly doubt we'll see a ground like that again for the rest of the season. Definitely not in finals.

Pretty much along the lines of my post Unca. My reference to the finals wasn't related to ground conditions, more to a lift in intensity.

Who are the 4? Save for Rd.1, Willy haven't been overly impressive away from home this year and they still have some important games away to OG, PA & Friars. That'll be the true test of where they're at. Credit to Bulleen who managed to come away from Fearon with 4 points. They're the only side that will there in 2013.

Spot on uncle mick they have such a great home ground advantage training and playing so often in those blustery conditions. And I think there is something very strange about playing on a ground without a fence it's very off putting and if not used to it it's easy to get lost out there. As for there away problems I definatly see them dropping two of those games potentially all of them. Doesn't look like they play with any intensity or vigour away from home

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't North Old Boys several years ago had an 18-0 record heading into the finals, only to lose the second semi and then the preliminary final?

i didn't think the match report on the Rovers website was overly humble..basically said only won because of the conditions and brought up the last meeting where Rovers won by 110 pts...surely not relevant?

In other words, if it was dry we would have kicked your butt....just lose with good grace guys and not blame conditions....Didn't WIlly play in the same conditions, which as has been mentioned on here were very unusual, so they could hardly be used to them.

My two bobs worth

15 goals were kicked across 8 quarters. 47 goals in 8 quarters is the average across the season. You do the math on the conditions. The author of the article had an opinion which you perceive to be bias. Whoop-di doo. Hardly anything we're consuming ourselves with. Play on...

If the final four was decided now, the first week of the finals would be like this:

First Semi Final: Ormond v Whitefriars
Second Semi Final: Hampton Rovers v Williamstown CYMS

Actually, the question is not so much who will be playing finals, but more of where?

I know we raised this issue before on BF, but it seems to me that the VAFA needs to have finals venues announced now so that clubs can plan ahead for finals, rather than later, otherwise the SFL would be stealing a march on them by scheduling their finals at venues like Cheltenham.

And with Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham about to be closed off for long-overdue ground renovations, doesn't leave the VAFA with much room to move when selecting the Grand Final venue.
