Whitefriars to win next weekend and lock away the final 4 with a week to go. Still no word on a finals venue, but if my geography is any good that's 4 teams in a 42km radius. Mail on Mordialloc also suggested Mazenod was an option as well. I'd dare say they'll favour the VAFA venue over the SFL. Favourable result for the Friars if it happens as they become the closest club to the venue.

The first week of the finals would look like this (providing Whitefriars win):

1st Semi Final-Wlliamstown CYMS v Whitefriars (Waverley)
2nd Semi Final- Hampton Rovers v Ormond (Mordialloc)

The only question is will the first & second semis be played on Saturday and Sunday (because of the 3 week finals series), or would it be played on the same day but at different venues?

How does that help them win the game?

I know a few of the Elsternwick lads in D3 & they have been advised by the VAFA that the details for finals will not be released until the week of the finals. I'm sure that would be the same for all grades. Stupid from the VAFA hierarchy yet again. Would have thought this would've been sorted by now.

I'd consider 20mins to the footy as 'favourable' given some of the travel Friars have to endure through the season.

How?
I still dont get it.
If it doesn't help them win the game( rememeber you didn't say that!) then how is a 20 minute drive favourable?
You could always concede it will make no difference...

I will get hammered no doubt again for my comparison of the VAFA with SFL, but admin wise the VAFA have slipped well behind the SFL now and not nominating a finals venues until a week before the finals is a complete joke. The SFL announced the venues in June to the clubs!!

Why a joke, perspective? It would be nice to plan in advance by perhaps seeking opportunities to train on the ground we'll be playing on, but is it really that important to know where the finals will be held? Do we know if there are points of difference with local councils over certain grounds being available? All it really means is the VAFA will have their work cut out trying to allocate grounds across all grades at the last minute - which I'd be surprised to find out they aren't already planning for.

Define several. 2007 HR played a D1 first semi at Cheltenham then the Preliminary & Grand Finals at TBO. I'm inclined to believe the VAFA will consider its participants when allocating grounds given there is also precedent.

Coach is aware of Verma playing, bedford. Jumper is a merger between East Brighton & Hampton.

I would have thought the common definition of several is more than three. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
First semis may well be played at other venues but prelim and grand final has inevitably been at Central Reserve.

I don't want to sit here and go tit for tat, but last year's GF was played at TBO. I haven't followed the grade enough to know if your precedent is as accurate as you suggest for the previous seasons. What I can tell you is a former housemate has a parent working at VAFA HQ and has given the following scenario:
VAFA is looking at Vic Park for Prem C with TBO the fall back option.
TBO is the preferred option for D1, depending on Prem C getting Vic Park.
Due to Hampton & Ormond being likely top 2 Mordialloc has become an option as is Central Reserve.

As previously mentioned, I'm inclined to believe the VAFA will consider the combatants, but most likely favour their own ground over a SFL one.

What I am saying is that the sooner folks know about the venue for finals the sooner clubs that are partcipating can get to their members and promote the game. You know get a few more people there.....ah the commercial reality that simply does not exist at the VAFA because it doesnt need to. Pity the same could not be said for Ormond.

I reckon coaches may want a bit of notice too, they are not dills and would be planning for a partcular ground and to prepare the players for same hopefully a few weeks out as opposed to a few days out - poor VAFA Adminstration. Maybe the clubs could fine the VAFA for not getting the finals venues out on time or perhaps send them to the VAFA tribunal and get those fossils to adjudicate, if the Martinov case is anything to go by then they may suspend the VAFA Admin for life - old d heads.

Perhaps it's time you considered your username, p.
The SFL has 8 grades to cover off. The VAFA has 26 - a logistical nightmare when you consider the geographical scope. We know Sportscover Arena is used for the top 2 grades. It then becomes a matter of best grounds available which I'd imagine needs approval from the various councils of which there would be plenty more than those the SFL would be dealing with.

So does that mean Old Ivanhoe will be favoured as Vic park isn't far away?

Mazenod don't play at Central Reserve anymore. They have moved 50 metres north. The ground doesn't have fencing.
Love to play at Vic Park. Also very close for Marcellin.

Perspective you keep alluding to the fact that you are a VAFA follower (Sponsor, supplier etc depending on the mood) so on that basis your lack of awareness about the VAFA is staggering. The SFL is a small geographical based comp comprising 3 divisions and 1 grade of U19s. They only have a handful of suitable grounds anyway.

The VAFA has 7 divisions of seniors with 3 of those grades having 1s, 2s and 3s. Add 5 grades of U19s, 1 of U18s and 3 grades of clubbies scattered to all 4 points of the compass and you have a logistical nightmare. The SFL only have to deal with 2 or 3 councils, not 10 or 12 and usually role out the same grounds every year anyway.

In some cases to minimise the travelling burden they will, when possible, try and match venues with geography. And to suggest that late announcement of venues has any impact on commercial viability is completely absurd.

(And I see your obsession with Ormond has raised its head again. The snide digs at such a great club are quite boring).
