I do wonder whether people still think of Norwood as the power of a few years ago. They have missed the finals in the last 2 years by 2 games, each year. They still remain a dangerous side on their day but can be hot & cold. The big man takes a few grabs & they really do lift.

Connor O'Sullivan has only played the 3 games which would be a blow, really promising young ruck.

Heard earlier in the week Haley & Manuel at Balwyn both injured, Manuel quite serious. Both not in EFL side confirms, if Manuel is out for a sustained period this will hurt Balwyn.

Expect some late withdrawals today amongst them Eddy & Best. Interleague always a struggle to get the best side on the park be that through injury, choice or selection.

Don't worry about me just chatting away to myself.

I'm interested :) Bad news for Balwyn.

G - up to his old tricks again.
A post regarding the great EFL win has suddenly disappeared. Just leave them there & you might get some replies, most can't reply within 30 minutes of your post.

Well done on the side & coaching staff on the win. The philosophy of playing the best players in their positions rather than a 'gun squad' appears to have paid off. Would loved to have seen the 'other' forwards out there with Leroy, would have been even more comprehensive. I just hope the 2019 version can be played at Bayswater, playing it at an empty Ethihad seems a bit of a shame after it is community football.

Would also be better if the VAFA & EDFL were involved.

Hi Bob. Not sure why the EDFL do not participate but VAFA are highly unlikely to get involved again as they have mid-season rep games every year against the VCFL and other state amateur comps on a rotating basis.

The VAFA did win it the 3 times they entered but having players missing for rep duties, including squad training requirements, twice in a season was unpopular with both the players and clubs and it had to be one or the other. Due to long standing arrangements with the VCFL and interstate bodies VAFA HQ chose to go with the mid-season games. Many in club land would prefer to be involved in the Vic Champs but there is universal agreement that it can’t be both.

Personally I would love to see the VAFA play against the other leagues. The standard of VAFA, particularly in Premier, has gone through the roof in the last 3 – 5 years. The relative strength of rep teams can vary from year to year but the team the VAFA assembled in 2017 destroyed the VCFL team by close to 100 points. I have no doubt they would acquit themselves well against any other league.

Didn’t the Essendon district football league play a game this year? They nearly beat the efl last year

They pulled out this year because of financial reasons and the costs involved with their junior rep.sides.You would think the AFL could cover some or all the costs for these games as I am sure there would have been talent scouts looking at these games for future AFL players.

Personally, I think its more about ego for the VAFA, and EDFL I don't think either of them can live with the fact that they aren't the best metro comp in Melbourne.

I still think there should be a blanket rule that eligibility for the rep side you have to play in that competition in the previous year. Again it should be about given local players a chance to play representative football.

Anyway a great win by the EFL and lining up next year against the NFNL this would be the first time sine the old EDFL v DVFL days

Some very interesting results today, but Vermont look to be some way ahead of the rest of the competition.

Saw Vermont, Rowville
10 goal win. Should've been 15+ given the domination.

I really hope you are right Bobby!

Their result this round didn't suprise me . Yet to play Doncaster, South Croydon & Blackburn who aside from Balwyn I believe are the best sides equipped to 'push' them. Beat Balwyn by a goal & Nth Ringwood by a few points, so at this point I don't see some way ahead, especially based on yesterdays result. Certainly the best side on paper, but on any given day.

Must commend Noble Park. To have a side gutted in one preseason they have done an amazing job to place such a competitive side on the park. It was only a 15 minute spurt that was the difference in the game. The bulls have pace & some very handy young guys running around, plenty to work with going forward.

G - you still following the Reserves & the lack of depth at some clubs?

They should just make it 1 19s comp. if they have enough there for 2 make 2 divisions.

The u19's problems in D1 continue today with North Ringwood and Balwyn forfeiting. Not sure whether playing Blackburn and Vermont (2 of the power clubs in this grade) put some of the boys off playing but continues to be a worry for the EFL.

Some clubs were approached regarding merging 19s, but for some reason decided to go alone. You wonder whether in early June these decisions were justified.

Must be happy how the sharks are going bobby i see ressies have won 5 ina row

Things going along nicely RD, but its a long season. The Reserves are especially pleasing as in the off season there was a concerted effort into addressing the depth of the club. Aside from a few veterans in the 2s the side is really young, and there is some future senior talent within the side. Those top 4 sides in the 2s are exceptional & most sides struggle to compete with them, hopeful we can sneak into the five.

Seniors coming along well & are still gelling, with many guys having played limited games together. Nice to have one of our recruits overcome injury to have a handy senior debut on the weekend. A tough run to come soon which will sort out the contenders, but have a feeling the finals may end up somewhat similar to 2017.

Interesting to see the top 5 in the Reserves are the same side top sides in the Seniors.

First, Fitzgerald wasn't trying to be funny, can't see that anywhere in the article so hardly a valid point.
Second, how many goals did you kick in your first AFL game to be able to pass judgement about Fitzgerald's football ability and again hardly a valid point.
Third, Goodes won his first Brownlow in the year AFTER Eade left in the middle of 2002, so it looks like Fitzgerald's comments are accurate.
Fourth, Fitzgerald can make those comments because he was there. It doesn't make them any less true because they were made 18 years later.
