Good move 'Broman'........

I hear Yarra are a little sore from the weekend, so it's about how fresh they can come up. Monash ran the game out well against us and so if Yarra are feelinga little sore, it could be very interesting.

I think that Yarra's ability to score more quickly with good run and spread will work well against the Gryphs. Also, the extra talls will cause some headaches for the Gryphs backline ......Wellsy can't take all of them!!

I still think Yarra are a slightly better team and have played the better footy this year. Yarra to get the points for mind, but only just and get a deserved promotion to D2.

As for 'Flowers' - took a little swipe at a kid on the weekend late in the last - hillarious result ensued :p

Chump
Flowers couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag! :p

Week 2 Preview

2nd Semi Final:

Four Blues over the Bushrangers by 23 Pts (I suspect this match will follow a similar path to the Q/F except this time it will be The Bushrangers on the negative side of the ledger. The best sides always play an uncompromising and brutal style of football and I expect this to be no different, Goals will be hard to come by and the predicted windy conditions will no doubt play a role. The toss of the coin is vital and if Yarra can win this and make good use of the breeze, they will be in it all day, but I feel the superior skill acquisition of Prahran will be the necessary buffer that propels the club back into Division 2. Jimmy Musster to continue his stellar season with best afield honours).

1st Semi Final

Hoes over the Gryphons by 11 Points (Due to the vagaries of a 12-team draw, these two sides have not met since mid-May. On that day the Gryphs had possibly their best away win of the year, but there has been a lot of water under the bridge since and I would pay little mind to it. It may be wet on Sunday and even though the big ground may suit the Gryphons, this may quell the influence of the marking targets of Wells and Madden. Similarly, Ash Close may not be able to exert too much influence for the Hoes. I suspect both teams will tag the key midfielders of Collins and Fletcher and hence the depth of these respective midfields will be the key. I favour Ivanhoe just as they have the capacity to sustain an intense effort for a little longer. Will be close and hotly contested though).

Semi-Finals Review

1/2 (74/112 cumulative – not that it matters now, Terence has me well covered)

Congratulations must be directed at the Prahran-Assumption Football Club. They are on the cusp of the rare feat of going through a season undefeated, whilst attaining a couple of premiership flags along the way. Division 2 football beckons for the Four Blues in 2012, it is now just a question of who will join them. Whilst Yarra Valley were completely outplayed in every department by the competition benchmark, they still should remain confident of getting another crack at Prahran in the big dance. The win on Saturday was set up in the first term when the Bushrangers failed to hold out the Four Blues whilst having first use of the breeze. The second term was Prahran at their brutal best, kicking with precision and placing immense pressure on the ball carrier. Seven goals to two and the match was over at the main break. By the final term, some of the Bushrangers players had put the cue in the rack and were focusing on anything but football. Prahran cruised in by ten goals and did it without significant contributions from the likes of JimmyMusster, Adam Sleight and Ben Furness. All roads point to Orrong Park and the coveted Matthews Cup looks a certainty at this stage.

Funnier things have happened however, and it is clear that the team from East Caulfield are playing their best footy at the business end as well. The forward planners of the respective match committees at Prahran and Yarra would’ve been most impressed by the belligerent approach Monash employed last Sunday. The Hoes never looked likely as the Osborne coached Gryphons disposed of their second opponent in as many weeks. It may be nigh on impossible to win a flag from 5th, however, the Gryphons are more than just an outside chance of beating Yarra in the Prelim. Dan Baxter played another excellent game across half back and with the likes of Mitchell Welsh getting the ball to Matty Fletcher and Marc Loricco in the middle, they have the ability to kick a winning score provided they have their kicking boots on. The Gryphs set up their win with a blistering second quarter into the breeze. Five goals to one in this period and perhaps 25 to 30 tackles were the defining stats. The evenness of Monash’s performance must have been the most pleasing thing to coaches Osborne and Warren and although Plowman and Collins tried hard for Ivanhoe, it will be another season of ‘what might have been’. A reasonable performance from the Hoes, but not outstanding and certainly not enough was bartered when it counted in big matches throughout much of the year.

Preliminary Final Preview

Bushrangers over Gryphs by 21 Pts (I’ve selected against Monash in the past two weeks, so I will stick to my guns and go against them again. Two-zip in head to heads this season in Yarra’s favour has me in no doubt they deserve to start hot favourites. However, if Monash can exert the same pressure on their opponents that resulted in Ivanhoe’s demise, then this game will be in the balance for much of the day. I suspect both defences will be on top and the predicted inclement weather will only reinforce this point, but the Bushrangers also possess more options up forward with the Yeo boys and Cam Britt already numbering 120 goals in 2011. No one from Monash has booted more than 30 and this could be telling ultimately. No doubt the best midfielders in each side will be tagged – Pollard and Fletcher - so I suspect both sides will be looking to their second stringers to provide the clearances. Should be a cracker of a contest from two sides who would desperately love promotion, but the Yarra Valley cohort is likely to be the one going home the victors on Sunday evening).

Good luck to both teams

Quasi

Progressive 78 from 110.

Prahran Assumption vs Yarra Valley - 10 points.
Ivanhoe vs Monash Gryphons - 12 points.

Progressive 78 from 112.

So much for my tipping. Didn't select either game last week. So take below with a grain of salt. Congrats to Prahran a very impressive effort and they will be a much happier club considering the past few years.

Yarra Valley
vs Monash Gryphons - 18 points. If this weather continues I'm sure both teams will appreciate the ground being a bit softer. Both teams will have a few players missing some bark from the past couple of weeks.
Yarra Valley have 5 goal kickers who have kicked more goals than the Gryphons. You would think that is too many to cover for Gryphons defense. If this weather continues it will help the Gryphons stop goals but on the rebound they will struggle to kick a winning score themselves against what is arguably the best back line in the comp.
If the Gryphons can play like the last couple of weeks they are in for a better show than in previous games against the Bushrangers but are just a few good players short to win this one.
Wells and Baxter to have a lot of the ball down their end so will be best players for the Gryphs. Pollard and Simon Yeo to be the big difference for the Bushrangers kicking goals from ground level.

SUNDAY ACTION

Thanks fellas for the previews of this weekend's games.

I think all three of the teams have had a taste of the ground previously. Scammell Reserve, Oakleigh, Melways Map 69 G11.

OOB

Probably one of the two most important, and hardest games to win during the season. So good luck to both teams, with the outer metro boys expected to take out both games.

Yarra Valley vs Monash Gyphons
No one seems to be giving the Gryphons much of a chance on Sunday.
Mcconville and Wilson are in fine form. Not sure Yarra have the right match ups for them?
My spies tell me that Collie from Yarra is going to play. A big gamble taking hamstring strains into such an important game.
My spies also tell me the Gryphons have been doing a rain dance. Effective so far! The Yarra talls are much easier to contain on a wet day.
Gryphons by 3 goals!

Dee Three = BOTTOM FEEDER!

If Hawthorn was to wisely ban POSTING on Bigfooty you would have to issue the ban directly to yourself. Committee & Executive Committee members only embarrass themselves as you are proving. You should be accountable for your clubs behaviour rather than try to deflect blame onto umpires etc. Hawthorn has by far the worst VAFA tribunal record in Dee Three this year so grow up & act on it.

Cut the locks & flow away!

hey vafa eye, is it Dee Three or D3?? Dee Three is a menace poster on here you fool.
"no umpire is ever 75 metres away..." just goes to show what an idiot you are as you didn't even read the post. I would say a goal umpire and a field umpire would be 75 metres away from each other in every game...
cut the locks and flow away....hahahaha I get it....because my name is flowinglocks right.....hahahahaha.....too funny

catch ya late vafa brown eye....see I'm just as funny as you.

Think the V Eye might have you here because you haven't voided his claim. Hope you are not on the committee actually. It would not be good form.

Not sure how he has me Nikko?? Committee...are you serious? I barely get a game in the 2s.
Is V Eye under the impression that everyone on here is a committee member of some sorts? Do all clubs have to have a VP of Social Media? Is so, he is a bigger idiot than I first thought. If thats the case I feel very sorry for the club that has Dee Three on their committee.
What ever happened to having an opinion? I don't speak for the rest of the world, I just speak for myself - as you do Nikko.
An interesting note here is that all our reports for the year (as we are thugs) have been against Uni High in the ressies!! You guys really get under our skin!!

Johnnyonthespot was spot on!
Yarra was too tall. Poor effort by the Yarra selection committee.. Collie struggled through, shouldnt have played.
McConville was one of the best on.
And the Gryphons won by 3 goals.
Im a genius.

Richo, which game will they loose? Hopefully the GF to Monash!

Jonny,

I hope this predcition comes true this weekend!!!!

What a fantastic weekend of football.

MY BOYS continued their late season form and moved into the Grand Final and hopefully can cause another upset and beat red hot favorites Prahran.

Doesn't look like I need to post on here in 2012...may have to change my name and become DEE TOO!!!

Not impressed monash how dare you put us through another season of listening to the cocky lads from park orchards telling us how good they are. With such a great side they should be playing in the higher grades instead of turning up to shite holes like rathmines and ep2. Hopefully they put in for a transfer to the EFL over summer

I tell you what. Out of all the posters here on D3 Big Footy. Me, aka Johnnyonthespot has been spot on all year!
Prahran must be sh#tting bricks. The weight of expectation must be unbearable.
Gryphons with nothing to lose this weekend. I give them a massive chance.
Wait for Johnny's game preview later in the week. And as usual with more substance than Quasi!!

Does anyone have the Scribes email address? I want to send him in the D3 team of the year before he embarrasses himself and leaves out McConville.

Pre game review? Now that is just confusing Johnny.

Last time I heard of a Perfect season was when the New England Patriots went 16-0 only to lose the Superbowl to the New York Giants. Wouldnt it be funny if.......
