Get over it. Crap ground....Footy trip beckons. Not much point washing mud off the boots for nothing. The Vafa only worry about Premier sections. The rest can fend for themselves!

Agreed, I doubt very much that the 'independant inspector' sent out by the VAFA on friday afternoon set foot on that ground. Most likely saw the grass from the locked gate and decided that it would be fine, little did he know that you sank 6 inches into the ground in the grassed areas. EAFC went through all the right channels to have the game to be re-located, a a ground was available and approved to play on (Central Reserve), but with the signing off on the ground by the VAFA they had no choice but to play. Good on Lilydale for sticking to their guns and insisted that the game be played there, but the game as a whole wasn't football it was a mix between rugby and wrestling.

The ground was a absolute disgrace and the VAFA should be ashamed that they let the game go on. No doubt had it been a Premier A, B or C game no chance it would have.

Now thats a home ground advantage. Just like the good old days at Moorabbin.:)

Home ground advantage??? Are you serious???

They won 5 out of 9 games there this season and finished on the bottom of the ladder!

By the way the 5 teams they beat there were West Brunswick, Power House, Hawthorn, Albert Park and Elsternwick..who were all in the bottom six clubs!

If someone did inspect that ground, I'm dumbfounded that they could pass that fit to play on.

I know we are in the lowly divisions, but there is no way known Xavs, Collegians et al would be forced to play on that ground.

Bad Call

VAFA made the right call, I doubt that the ground would have been any worse this weekend than it has been the entire year. Everyone else had to go there and play on it, suck it up wicks, should not let it come down to that.

The ground was in superb condition, Elsternwick were a beaten side before the first bounce, especially when the coach didn't want to get his feet wet before the game, qtr time, half time or 3qtr time.....tip toe tip toe tip toe

Even when in previous years of D4 when MTL beat the lowly Chadstone by many points, they Chadstone at least scored more than 1 goal

Superb condition? The whole ground was a sink hole - terrible - It was not football - regardless, it does not matter as next year you are in D4.

Moving on fellas...who are the tips for the competition B&F?

I am tipping:

1. Adam Sleight (Prahran)
2. Nick Hayes (Hawthorn)
3. Lee Wells (Monash)

I'll have a crack

1. James Musster (Prahran) Would get a vote from most games I saw them play
2. Michael Fletcher (Monash) Consistent performer according to site stats
3. Paul Edwards (Powerhouse) Surely weight of goals in an otherwise ordinary Club year with few other standouts should count for something.
4. James Brick (Albert Park) Once again most consistent accord to site stats

Very good call. A run away winner. That's a lot of votes as well. Normally around 20 would win and generally a lot closer.

Matthew Fletcher obviously doesn't get noticed by the umpires but his club obviously thinks a lot of him.

Burnside stole all Edo's votes.

Burnside stole all Edo's votes.

Burner last seen running down lakeside drive, envelope in one hand and "White Out" in the other, with Eddo in hot pursuit.

A blaze of tattoos reflecting on the lake - never a time trial like it in the histroy of the House. In fact not sure if Eddo ever did a time trial. Hell, if you just keep kicking bags why would you!

To steal the votes off Eddo in his retirement year! What a cross to bear for Burner - but apparently it runs in the family. HOLY HELL Burner you are a machine!

Bemused...you just worry about your boys at Power House STEALING the game from Hawthorn by crying to the VAFA and getting the draw awarded to you guys!

How much money did you have to pay to get that result so you can retire with a WIN!!!

What's all that about?!?!

Even the cheating Hawthorn umpire caouldn't get the Hawks over the line this time? Wat did you do to him?

DEE FREEE - As you full well know No-one gets paid in the Ammos! Considering I baulk at paying for a beer I doubt I would lash out on some good old fashioned bribery.

It would be interesting to hear from UMPY'S ADVOCATE about your comments re. umpires but i heard on the grape vine he has been muzzled by a collective group of football adminstrators who have not used bribery but thuggary to silence him.

What I do think though, is that mutual respect of player and umpire has led to some much more objective decision making. You should know because my sources tell me you have umpired more than most at Ammo level and after a long period disguising yourself in this Forum you have been something of snake in the grass!

Any way I should make way for others, and this competiton will be a whole lot better off with one less thug hanging around! So for EDDIE THE EAGLE, who would seem to have flown the coop, you can come back and play again and you don't have to be scared anymore!

Round 18 Preview

Yarra over Kew by 88 Pts (It will be interesting to see if the Bushrangers rest a couple of sore boys for the Qualifying Final next week as they had a bruising encounter against the Gryphs, however, even if they do, this game will be a blowout. The Bears put the ‘cue in the rack’ a few weeks back and will be thinking about their Vote Count and End of Season Trip more than the woes of keeping Britt and Yeo under wraps).
PA over Hoes by 12 Pts (Everyone has awaited and almost longed for Prahran to slip up and this may be the game it occurs. However, it will take a braver man than me to tip against them. Ivanhoe were far from their best last time out, but play the style of game at Hoe Park that could seriously frustrate the Four Blues. Still the margin was close to eleven goals when these two sides met back in June and home ground advantage will only bring the sides a little closer together).
UHS over West by 15 Pts (Should be a cracker between these two bitter rivals and the fact that it is on neutral territory mean the Uni ‘Vagabonds’ will be no sooner comfortable here than at McAlister Oval. That being said, the combine would love nothing greater – save for a Premiership – that to relegate their Derby rivals and this is their best chance in years. West will fight hard but be checking their twitter accounts come 4.45pm to see if the Hawks have failed).
Wicks over Rams by 18 Pts (The horse has bolted for Elsternwick and although some on this forum believe a 143 point margin is possible – say Wicks by 100 and West by 45 – I reckon the Straight Six at the Valley would be more likely. The Rams were valiant last time out and at home will push the Wicks for much of the day. Brian Mahony to be best afield).
Monash over the Falcons by 10 Pts (For some reason, the Gryphs have always struggled against Albert Park and I suspect this will continue. The Bankers stated they wanted to take a big scalp before the season’s end and the Gryphs are their final chance. Monash will not want to take poor form into the Elimination Final though and should be just good enough to win. Matt Fletcher to be best afield).
House over Hawks by 25 Pts (It is fitting in such a hotly contested home and away season that the final game also has the most riding on its outcome for this round. If Powerhouse win, they are safe so that ought to be enough, but stranger things have occurred in Round 18’s past, so nothing can be taken for granted, especially at Rathmines. The Hawks will also stay up with a win and in that scenario the House have to rely upon West losing to remain in D3. I have over-analysed already…Hawthorn haven’t played good footy in ages and will be over-powered by a stronger

Round 18 Review

3/6 (72/108 Cumulative) was a mediocre end to a fair season of tipping at best, as round 18 delivered a few surprises as normal. Pandemonium in the terraces at Rathmines as the Hawks stormed home against the House to keep themselves afloat and bury the Magpies. It is not often that a team wins by four goals plus whilst having ten fewer scoring shots, but such was Hawthorn’s efficiency - through the likes of Luke Piccolo and Dave Tremewan – that this indeed was the case. Bad kicking is bad football as the saying goes and The House will be thanking UHS all summer for their win against the unfortunate Magpies. West were right in the contest at lemon time but ran out of legs as the combine piled on nine goals in the final stanza. The other somewhat surprising result was at Lilydale where the Wicks showed none of the passion and resolve that had them in finals contention just two weeks back. Alister Stuart played his best game of the year as the Mountain Men finished the season with a strong win, yet too little too late. Speaking of good last round wins, the Falcons had the better of the Gryphons all day and claimed their seventh victory of an inconsistent season. Monash’s form is the last six weeks has been sub standard as they have lost five of their last six matches and all of their early season momentum. The Four Blues and Bushrangers showed why there is daylight to the rest of the competition as they warmed up for finals with crushing wins. The Bears performance at Domeney was particularly lacklustre.

Week 1 – Finals Preview

Five teams have qualified and all the old clichés are true. It is a whole new ball game. Whilst Yarra and Prahran are playing like world-beaters, it means nothing if they cannot produce the same form over the next few weeks. Similarly, the Gryphons recent poor form can all be forgotten if they regain their mojo come Sunday and take this into the ensuing weeks.

Qualifying Final

Yarra over Ivanhoe by 41 Pts (It is one all between these two and naturally home ground has determined the winner. On that proviso, the neutral territory at Glen Waverley could mean a very close contest, but the fact remains that the Hoes were destroyed by The Bushrangers a month back at Domeney and I see no good reason for this to discontinue. Yarra possess a dogged defence, a solid midfield and a potent forward mix headed by the Yeo boys and the fine conditions will accentuate their superior skill acquisition. The Hoes will look to Ash Close or Ben Plowman for inspiration, but I suspect these key players will be targeted and holes will be evident in Ivanhoe’s depth).

UHS over Monash by 8 Pts (One would assume that this will be the closer of the two finals this weekend as the previous meetings between these sides have been decide by less than a kick. Nothing separates the teams on paper, but I must side with Uni High as the Gryphons form over the last six weeks has been abysmal. Winning form is so important for finals teams and Monash have only been able to salute over the relegation threatened Hawks since mid July. The combine will look to quell the influence of Matt Fletcher in the midfield, whilst Monash will closely check Lucas Gorringe and Russell Matthews. Both teams have a reasonably good spine and I can’t see this being a shootout, therefore, I feel that the bottom six of the respective teams hold the key. It will possibly come down to whichever team structure holds up the best in the clinches and I feel UHS may just have the answers. Monash will look the winners at some time in the second half, but I feel they will fall just short. Sam Payne to be best afield).

Good luck to all

Quasi

Progressive 73 from 102.

Yarra Valley vs Kew - 55 points.
Ivanhoe vs Prahran Assumption - 21 points.
UHS-VU vs West Brunswick - 44 points.
Mt Lilydale vs Elsternwick - 55 points.
Albert Park vs Monash Gryphons - 44 points.
Hawthorn vs Power House - 12 points.

Progressive 76 from 108.

You seem to have caught up quickly Quasi. You been fiddling the tipping figures?

Yarra Valley vs Ivanhoe - 25 points. YV will ensure there is no repeat of their loss to Ivanhoe earlier this year. The bottom 3 finalists are kidding themselves if they think they can run with YV or Prahran. Let's just play the premiership now. I suspect the better Yeo will be back from his rest so the margin could even be more.

UHS-VU vs Monash Gryphons - 5 points. This will be a really tight game and don't expect either team to give an inch. Whilst the Gryphons have had poor form in the past month and a half, they haven't played the football they are capable of and still just lost to UHS last time these teams met. I think with last years finals experience they will lift and just get over the line.

Spring is in the air and that mean's final time .........

I think all 4 games this weekend could be blowouts!
Im gonna stick my neck out here and say the Gryphons will easily dispose of both UHS-VU and Hawthorn.
Whilst Yarra will win the other 2 games just as easy.

Well it's final time so I might as well give my opinion on tomorrow's games.

Uni High vs Monash-Monash by 25 points. Monash have a multiple goal scorers in Malloy, Malone, Fletcher and a quality defender in Wells wheras Uni High only have Kirk, Watts and Gorringe to shut down.

YV v Hoes- Form make Yarra red hot favourites and are in very good form. Three potent marking forwards, three nippy forwards and a midfield with depth make them a good unit. The Hoes have been slightly undersold on this forum having been 10-3 since round 5 and they have many players to get the job done when it counts plus a few aces up their sleeve. Hoes by 2 goals.

anyone want to elaborate on this?

A couple of great games on the weekend. Ivanhoe giving Yarra a real scare. And the Gryphons easily disposing of UHS-VU.
Where was Watts?
Tips this week.
Prahran easy.
Monash in a close one.

Watts - injured since Kew along with a few others. Shocking injury to the Monash Gry's number 11 - hope all is mending ok. Think it will be a long recuperation. Any news Quasi?

Hope there is no permanent damage to Malloy and also hope that Letson for Yarra was okay.

Like to see good hard games but wouldn't wish injury or illness on anyone.
