when does the team of the year get announced?

also, how many players from each club can make it? is there a max?

surely filled with all PA blokes!

those arrogant Yarra blokes deserved to lose to a small yet tougher monash side. Too much chirp from the yarra boys, and how soft they really were was proven after the game by most of em having a little cry apparently.....enjoy D3 again next year boys...

as for the big dance, surely PA will get up, but seeing as tho both sides are heading to the same destination (D2), the final prize isnt everything....

I did happen to see a couple of yarra lads showing their emotions after the game on sunday. What a game of footy, Monash must a recurited 22 new players for the finals cause this is not the same said who lost twice to the wicks this year.

I jumping on the wagon Johnny everyone loves an underdog!! How good was your FF Pahran will need to stop him somehow, ive also been keeping a eye on your boys Wilson and McConvile, common Johnny these blokes wont win you the final come sunday its going to be at the book ends with your FF, and your backline (one of the best ive seen) 44, 23, 66...

Bad luck to Yarra who deserved promotion all year, but rules are rules..

From all in D3 (not Inc PA) Carn Gryphs!

would expect all 22 blokes to come from Yarra and Ivanhoe losing 3 games between them all year...

Where are these allegations of S Sheehan being paid coming from? Surely the Gryphs wallets aren't so deep that their playing middle tier players?

Here is my crack at team of the season, looking forward to a tirade of abuse coming my way!

Do we have any names to support your argument?

Guess from top 3:
Savage (Yarra)
Yeo (Yarra)
Brit (Yara)
Sleight (PA)
Maya (PA)
Pollard (Yarra)
Plowman (Hoes)
Close (Hoes)

plenty more as well i think!

Not usually one for stats but just got off the Ammo site and noticed the Gryphs top 4 goalscorers totalled 103 and PA's top 4 = 206...double the goals total and yet played 2 less games...worth considering before tipping IMO...
Hummer the obvious ommissions to me in your D3 TOTY are 1. Baxter (MG) to HBF 2. Muscat (AP) to FP and Brazzale (K) to HFF with apologies to Hunter (E) & A.Close (I)...just another opinion I guess and I'll be interested to read what you guys think....

Honestly, dont waste your time with putting players from other sides other than PA, Yarra, Hoe and Monash. Completely wasting your time....

Tips for the weekend:

Unexpected Grand Final match-up but having said that you couldnt possibly tip monash, even though they have put on a brilliant performance in the final series, making the GF from 5th.
PA's depth and big boys up forward (Sleight etc) must be too hard to handle.
How can you possibly tip against an undefeated side?
Number 10 for PA to receive the BOG medal

More relevant scores would be total for and against.

Monash having lower goals in top 4 would indicate they don't rely on any particular forward to kick goals.

But

I suspect however you look at the stats PA will have MG covered.

Having watched Monash last week though I still wouldn't count them out.

your a flog hummer, how can a bloke who plays in the clubbies, and not attend any D3 during the season be able to have an accurate optinion on the comp... Please

Last time I looked, the D3 scribe was a voluntary position that the ammos were struggling to fill. Maybe, if Hummer elected not to go on, you could take the role in 2012, but please make sure that you watch just as much of your own side as the rest and make it to at least 1 game every round. Please also make sure that when you are making assessments on teams of the year, you please every team in the league. Also, be careful not to tip an upset cos someone will get p!ssed off for sure.

The boys obviously enjoy reading your column Hummer, which is probably better than reading nothing at all. PS Burner from Power House would get a kick out of reading that he is a nimble rover.

Steve...oh.Steve...

Please don't ever associate me with a club that spawned old midget onballers like vegemite and bemused.

I'm offended!

Hey, nothing wrong with a club that spawns old midget onballers, especially of the calibre of Bemused and myself. I'm sure we've all got old midget onballers, even you guys over at Kew!!!

Even with my Monash bias. I must say this is a bloody good effort from hummer.
1 huge omission is Parsons from (pa) definately a better player than Pell.
O'hare (pa) would be backup ruck and should be on the pine.
Watts (uh) should be in. And Id have savage (yv) in front of Mahony. (is that C or B/? either he should still be in front of these guys. Still very handy players but their best is past them)
Other than that not a bad effort from Hummer.
Of course McConville should be in the side but thats another discussion!

Liked it Hummer ......good effort with this. I am sure that we will each have our slight changes, but good job.

From a Hoes point of view: Harris and Collins had good years for us, but you name some very handy on ballers and some that have been named as missing by other scribes also look to have been just as worthy.

D.Wood will go very close to winning our B&F .....again.....and could maybe slot into the backline. Gun.

Plowman and Close had good years - they missed about 6 or 7 games each, so could have been even better.

Chump had a very good year - worth every cent!!!

Chump,

With you Chump, I will put together a side and review post GF but if I were to chose any Ivanhoe players, Wood and Collins would be the ones despite Harris, Close and plownman having good seasons.

The Wood Duck consistently puts the best forwards out of business (e.g Hunter 2 goals and zero goals, Kirk zero goals, Sleight 4 in a side that won by 11 goals) although Edwards got away from him early in the second game at hoe Park and finished with 6 and Simon yeo did get 4 in the final albeit with a lot of chances and I think he would have had a lot more had the Duck not been on him.

He also went forward when we needed a change and managed 18 goals and is rarely mentioned in the forum.

And Jimmy collins has been a star for us over a number of years.

Correct Wamba .....Yeo in the final he only kicked 1 on Woody...the Duck went forward for us to try and win the game.....we didn't , so lets face it ...the duck is not much chop. ;)

PA to win the big one this week they are the best side in the comp by a mile.
Well done to the lads from Monash, playing their best footy at the right time of year and i wish them well for the big day.

I'm tipping an upset in the ressies, UHS to get the chocolates in a close one.

Good luck to all involved this weekend.

Preliminary Final Preview

Bushrangers over Gryphs by 21 Pts (I’ve selected against Monash in the past two weeks, so I will stick to my guns and go against them again. Two-zip in head to heads this season in Yarra’s favour has me in no doubt they deserve to start hot favourites. However, if Monash can exert the same pressure on their opponents that resulted in Ivanhoe’s demise, then this game will be in the balance for much of the day. I suspect both defences will be on top and the predicted inclement weather will only reinforce this point, but the Bushrangers also possess more options up forward with the Yeo boys and Cam Britt already numbering 120 goals in 2011. No one from Monash has booted more than 30 and this could be telling ultimately. No doubt the best midfielders in each side will be tagged – Pollard and Fletcher - so I suspect both sides will be looking to their second stringers to provide the clearances. Should be a cracker of a contest from two sides who would desperately love promotion, but the Yarra Valley cohort is likely to be the one going home the victors on Sunday evening).

Preliminary Final Review

0/1 (74/113 cumulative).

Fantasies are filled with bewilderment and intrigue and the fortunes of the Monash Gryphons are reaching these fairytale proportions. In the twenty years of the McIntyre Final Five in the VFL (1972-91) only two teams – Collingwood in 1980 and Melbourne in 1988 – managed to make a grand final from 5th position. Subsequently, both these teams lost on that one day in September by then, record margins. Monash now have the opportunity to achieve the impossible and win from 5th after they disposed of the Bushrangers with great aplomb last Sunday. The Gryphons are peaking at the right end of the season and no one can deny they were ultra impressive. Yarra threw all they could at the boys from East Caulfield but lost the contested ball and had no answers for the forward presence of Tim Madden – 6 goals – or the superior skills of midfielders such as Daniel McConville or Matt Fletcher. It was a superb game of finals footy and Yarra persisted to a point where most at Scammell Reserve were expecting the floodgates to open, but alas it never eventuated. Ben Trend and Simon Yeo were amongst the best for the losers, but as predicted, many of the Monash lesser heralded players such as Benny Rose and Mick Savas shone as the Gryphons marched on to D2. Questions will be asked by many from the men from Park Orchards, but this would take away from the desire and belligerent approach shown by Monash all day.

Grand Final Preview

Four Blues over Gryphs by 23 Pts (Football is a cruel game at times, but all the blood, sweat and tears as well as the countless hours toiling away on the track could be futile if Prahran cannot salute in this one. I made the mistake of tipping against the Four Blues once this season and stated soon after that I would not do so again, so I see no logical reason alter this approach. However, Monash have surprised all this September and only a fool would give them no chance. Unlike previous weeks, I feel the Gryphs are going to need their stars such as Cherian, Fletcher and Wells to all have big games and Harry Madden up forward will need to figure early if they are to put doubt in Prahran’s mind. However, the key to PA’s success has been their evenness and whilst Monash may try to blanket Pell or Musster another such as Chapman or Furness may stand up and fire. Blayne Dempsey is a rock of Gibraltar in defence and Messer’s Sleight and Christoforo have bettered most defensive structures with ease, collecting 144 goals in the process. There is nothing more satisfying than a senior football premiership and I suspect Prahran will be bringing home their first senior pennant since 1987).

What a season it has been.

Good luck to both teams
