Yarra far too good for us today and in the end ran away with a big win.

Was a shocker for the Hoes with injuries to 4 key players all before half time and then Yarra gave us a good old fashioned beating - as good sides should do.

The Hoes will remember this one as the bushrangers were very happy with themselves - as they should be - and took the opportunity to really rub our noses in it. Nice little rivalry developing :)

I do think we have found our 'home hardware tool of the year' though. I think this guy will win it but a country mile.....would anyone like to take a guess (and it's not me ..... I won it last year)

To the winners go the spoils ...... but there is a bit to go yet me thinks.

Chump.

This!! Good luck today Peter

Hiss Hiss

Good win for the snakes today, and no injuries is nice for a change. We should play on wet grounds every weekend. Great to get off the mark.

Big seb was huge up forward. I think he kicked 8.8 for the day. All from set shots I think... Needs work perhaps?

Watched the wicks vs aquinas today, good game of footy til the final siren.

Aquinas too good in the end but both sides fought out the game well.

Biggest issue of the match was clearly the terrible performance from the men in white... Must have been over 15 goals from free kicks (most werent there) probably a few more went the way of the wicks. Grossly over umpired, seemed to give lip back to players & the crowd on both sides seemed frustrated with the lack of clarity & consistency. On the postage stamp they basically controlled the momentum of the game & I hope both teams give the vafa some feedback.

Other than that there were a couple of injuries to both sides (hammys I think) but was played in good spirit. Forwards for both sides stood up well & kicked vital goals. Ball just kept going aquinas' way in last 10 minutes and they kicked the last few goals to seal it.

Both teams looked alright to me but not sure of the quality of the rest of d3... Yarra seem to be well ahead of everyone else but still only round two.

Well done to j. Hunter on his 400th goal for the wicks

He is a big unit! Good hands too. Grabbed just about everything that came his way!
Snakes must have had a function on tonight as they didn't have more than about 3 players in the rooms for speeches. Hawks had about 30.

Was able to head down to Elsternwick to watch their clash with Aquinas OC. Elsternwick kicked the first 5 goals of the game however Aquinas were able to claw their way back. However same thing happened in the second quarter where Elsternwick kicked the first couple. Looked to be all over deep into the last qtr with Elsternwick up by 4 goals. To Aquinas' credit they never gave up and dug deep to run all over Elsternwick. Very high scoring but was inevitable on such a small ground. Forwards for both sides had field days. Impressed with the young Aquinas side.

What can be gleaned from Round 2:

The competition is not as strong as last year which will make for an even year.

Yarra are the side to beat with Aquinas shaping as their early challenger.

Uni High are at about the same level as last year and should challenge while Kew will trouble and beat quite a few sides but are still some way from the top level.

The Hoes have a lot of work to do and need some of their 20 to 21 year olds to fill the breach left by the loss of a few experienced heads while Elsternwick appear to be much the same as other years.

St Francis could be a big challenger and Albert Park will win their fair share.

It's too early to tell with Richmond after a good win on the weekend but Hawthorn, Westbourne and Powerhouse appear to have a tough road ahead.

I was also at Elsternwick park on saturday and would agree with everything sancho said. The two "umpires" we had in that game were the most disgraceful umpires ive seen in all my time in amateur footy, let alone footy in general...

The game was grossly over umpired and there were free kicks pulled out where both teams were laughing about how bad they were. There was even instances where the umps didnt know the rules and had to stop the game to consult one another. I thought for such a good game which was played in really good amateur spirit it was appauling.

I would also like to say as a part of the Aquinas support on the day that it was good to see all the boys stick around for not only the senior game and add to the atmosphere, but to have a beer after the game with those from elsternwick who stayed. It was a long drive for us from ringwood but its a credit to the boys who hung around and had a beer with their counterparts after a hard days footy.

Bring on Richmond Centrals next week. 2 and zip baby!:D

let me guess, he plays full forward and kicked 5 on the weekend...

unfortunately, Yarra deserved to be happy with themselves, far better side all day!!

Round 2 tips:

Uni High over Kew by 12 pts. Big game. How much have Kew improved and are Uni High in fact better than last year? The winner will flag themselves as an early finalist.

Hoes over YV by 5 pts. Yarra valley are the team to beat but if a lot goes right, we can get the points.

Elsternwick v Aquinas. Aquinas by 24 pts. Elsternwick always tough to beat at home but generally fall short of the better sides and I suspect Aquinas are one of those.

Richmond v Hawthorn. Richmond by 36 pts. I've dropped the Hawks like the proverbial hot spud so the Tigers to celebrate at home.

St Francis v Albert Park. St Francis by 30 pts. Another tough away trip for Albert Park and while they will be in the game for a long time, St Francis to run away in the end.

OW v Powerhouse. OW by 20 pts. Both looking at long seasons after round 1. Surely Powerhouse won't waste Edwards at full back again? The House every chance but I'll go with Francesco Pavez's side to get the points.

Called into this tranquil seaside venue for this clash of the cellar dwellers.
Talk about a remote location! Would have been easier to fly to Avalon Airport and drive from there!
Blustery conditions, big ground and not a lot of quality or talent on show.
Plenty of endeavour from both outfits but neither side will trouble too many this season. Honest battlers sums it up!
Power House were in front in a close contest all day, and kicking with the last quarter breeze.
However, the House came to a grinding halt
with a mere ten minutes to go.
Seventeen points lead was soon wiped off with the Westies repetitious centre clearances, strong running and a couple of marking forwards when it mattered. Some really impressive clean grabs in a contest! :footy:
Old Boys wanted the footy that little bit more than the lakeside outfit and celebrated a come from behind victory. Drew blood, smelled the blood and sniffed that the resolve of the Power was diminishing!
The umpiring standard was laughable with most decisions being called on the third or fourth decision in the contest.
Westies also got away with some dubious "attention" to their opponents due to the poor officials and capitalised on some minor cheap shots!:(
Nonetheless, they clinched the crucial contests when it mattered!
Only a couple of the Westie boys got confused that this was VAFA
not UFC
However, certainly nothing to get too precious about and the Westies did the business. :thumbsu:
Cannot see a lot of wins along the journey for either outfit but Westies should be that touch more successful than the House.
What they would have done to have Edwards playing on the weekend??

I heard half of the PH team are repatriated Irishmen, at least their after match will be worth going too!!!

Dolphin, Does it really matter where there from?
Most of the guys are only playing footy 1-2 years and mix in quiet well( understandably, it is the 2nd lowest league)
Credit to PH for giving them a go and I believe that many other lower division clubs are doing likewise

Offside you are falling into Flog's trap just dont repost and he will go away!

Also a large number of rugby players which has been very interesting (no skills but can they tackle!) at clubs I have been involved with!

Changing the club's name to O'Power House.
They will need the luck of the Irish this season.
At least the Irish boys have a fair crack and are terrific to have around the club!:D

Congatulations to Damon "the duck" Wood who plays his 200th game for the club this week.

Over the years he has regularly shut down big name forwards and has switched forward and kicked goals as well.

Maybe underrated outside of Ivanhoe but definitely not within.

BIGWAZ's Round 3 Predictions...................

UHSVU @ Yarra Valley - Yarra are proving to be the benchmark in the early going. UHS appear to be a good group with plenty of depth, but might run out of legs in the second half. YV by 8 goals.

Kew @ Ivanhoe - This should be a close game, and the winner should be a finals contender. Perhaps both. Home team by a goal.

OW @ Albert Park - (Peanut Farm?) Another close game, with the loser falling back into the relgation zone. Home team by a couple.

O'Elsternwick @ O'Powerhouse - Both teams have a handful of Irish players... So there could be some fireworks. I expect Elsterwick will have a bit too much pace and will win by 5 goals.

Hawthorn @ SFX - Never a nice place to play, SFX College, and I don't think Hawthorn will upset the home side. SFX by 10 goals.

RC @ Aquinas - RC by 1 point.

Reserves..... RC, SFX, Elsternwick, OW, Kew, YV.

Just letting you know it is an Albert park 'home game' however the game has been moved from their ground to St Kilda which is odd. But thanks for tipping OW anyway ;)
