I think the issue here is not the unregistered player...it is that the President and the Officials lied to the tribunal about who the player actually was.

And the poor bloke who's name was sullied through all this... has a week off and then finds out he's been suspended for 15 weeks!

Sending the club to div 4 ?....what does that prove ?..way too harsh on the club....would they do that if it was a premier division club ?....and what....lies at the tribunal....wow thats never happened before.....sign the sorry book...and move on/....

The VAFA are beyond reproach.... No paying players, no high payed partner jobs or coaches kids getting school scholarships ever!! Once again heavy handed on lower div football but always happy to take the money..

Payed? Dear oh dear.

Which kids have been given scholarships? Can you name one?

I assume that the player was unregistered because he may have had priors or was suspended from playing in any competition?. If so then the penalty was in order. If not and they never got around to registering the player then how could they link being unregistered and anticipating that he would be suspended? Taking what the now former Hawks Prez said about the incident on face value I must say I am not surprised as the tribunal are not interested in listening to the facts; they adopt the Judge Roy Bean view of the world: Hang him. Many many years ago I played in a match where an opposition player was given a year plus the remainder of the season for allegedly striking an umpire. The tribunal were not interested in hearing what occured in that one of our players actually pushed the player into the umpire unintentionally, but someone had to pay. Have to add the umpire did not help as he carried on like he had been shot. We offered to give evidence but we were not required as they had the facts. I hope the club recovers from this as it is hard enough to find two hard working volunteers who put in many many long hours for the love of the game and the club.Perhaps the Executive would want to take this into account and consider a suspended sentence and stringent reporting and monitoring procedures be implemented with respect to the registering of all players. Geez how many clubs out there have played players under a false name?

Its a big penalty, but an easy one to hand out, as Hawthorn were a good chance to be relegated anyway.
It would have been an interesting result if the club had fessed up to using a bogus player. would the same penalty apply. I don't think so.
How stupid is the player for getting reported when he knew he was playing under a fake name. Could he have taken the prescribed or was the report so serious that Headquarters had to hear the report.

It had to do with an incident with the Ivanhoe twos umpire which the Hawks claimed was overblown (not disputing that) although I would like to hear our twos umpire's version.

I haven't heard anyone from our club even mention that incident so it couldn't have been too ugly but having said that any league would rightly view an incident with an umpire as serious.

So to answer Max, it was a 15 week suspension and not minor in the wider context of things.

Anyone see Kew v Aquinas on the footy show last night? Wouldn't surprise me if the umpire did that on purpose. VAFA umpires are crooks after all.

We thought the incident was overplayed but it was referred directly to the tribunal. The player in question, probably not really caring as he was only filling in, didn't turn up and the tribunal gave him 15 weeks.

We are not the first club and won't be the last to play an unregistered player in the reserves.

I can almost live with the demotion, but suspending Clance and Noons from any official duties is insane. They have literally held the club together over the last couple of years, with the club now in a strong financial position due to their hard work. I don't think they, in their ivory towers at HQ, understand how hard it is to run a club at this level. Guys like these two don't fall off trees......the competition is lucky to have guys like this involved.

Interesting that earlier in the year it was found a B Grade side played an unregistered player in their 1s - what do you think the action was? As you would expect....NOTHING...no loss of points, NOTHING.

Oh please flowinglocks I'll bite here as I assume you are talking about Beauy, this story was put on Bigfooty agenda by "Brianspeaking" and is total and unter b*llsh*t. If you have better info than me put up or shut up!! Think your club has bigger problems don't try to drag good clubs down with you...

I agree with this and I'm guessing the VAFA board are probably following this thread with interest. Obviously we don't know the full story, but banning volunteers seems excessive.

Excuse me Cosmo, I didn't know who the club was and now you have dragged them into it.
I was told yesterday when discussing this with someone who is from an A Grade club, so apologies if my information was wrong.
Ps: I don't really read B Section - maybe I should.

All good then, good luck in D4

Let's get fair dinkum here

Aquinas v Westbourne - Aquinas by plenty, Westbourne to join Hawthorn in D4
Ivanhoe v Yarra Valley - Match of the round. Going with the visitors. Big chance for them to show how far above the next best contender they are.
Hawthorn v Albert Park - Albert Park. Expect Hawthorn to be fired up early but will go the knuckle as usual once Albert Park start to kick ahead.
Power House v UHS - UHS. Will be a bog heap which should bring UHS back to Power House's low standard but should be able to do enough.
SFX v Richmond - SFX. Both inconsistent teams but will go with the home side
Kew v Elsternwick - Kew. Don't rate Elsternwick when they have to play on a ground that's actually a reasonable size. Both inconsistent like the previous match but rate Kew higher.

Aquinas v Westbourne - too strong
Ivanhoe v Yarra Valley - form side at the moment.
Hawthorn v Albert Park too strong
Power House v UHS too strong
SFX v Richmond Go Snakes
Kew v Elsternwick form has been good.

As one football personality has a habit of saying - "Its been a big week in football !" Plenty of pros and cons re the Hawthorn issue, but the reality is "if you do the crime you do the time"

Aquinas vs Old Westbourne - Starting to get close to crunch time for the Old Boys and can't see them toppling the home side here.
Ivanhoe vs Yarra Valley - TotT clash wit potential premiership favouritism on the line. Looking for the Hoes to gain the ascendency over the wine-makers.
Hawthorn vs Albert Park - Will the Hawks do a Melbourne Storm for the remainder of the season? Interesting, especially against a struggling Facons outfit.
Power House vs UHS-VU - The Students could be in second pace with a big win here against the "blackout" House.
St Francis Xavier vs Richmond - A classic eight-pointer, especially for the X-Men but think they'll fall short against the Tiger-Snakes.
Kew vs Elsternwick - Someone's finals hopes could be in tatters at the end of this one and think it'll be the Wicks.

Hoes not good enough yesterday and were given a lesson in playing smart football by Yarra who are clear favourites now.

From all reports Wamba - completely outplayed in the second half. Hoes will be disappointed with that performance and still have alot of improvement to come. Well done to Yarra - looking very good at this stage of the year. R.Yeo back in the team gives them more scoring options and heads up a very dangerous forward line.

The positives though were the performances of some of the Under 19's that played in the seniors (as they had the bye) and gave them a taste of senior footy. Also, the two's upset win over the previously undefeated Yarra outfit.

Chump.

How did the boy Mowat go ?

It seems Aquinas were busy during the transfer deadline after snagging an elf leading
Goal scorer and a box hill vfl player in the same week. Looked on the results and saw s Williams kicked 8 goals on the weekend. Can anyone from Aquinas shed some light on this?

First time poster however have dealt with Michael Barnes in the past.. A 21 year old player who has played senior vfl footy at box hill this season, just looking for some fun with his school mates. Sam Williams came back from the efl as a 20 year old also looking for some fun but with a bag of 8 on the weekend looked like his class had shon through. If aquinas can consolidate a strong finals spot, all sides should look out as they have already defeated the premiership favorites.

So Zeldamate, how much are these two new blokes getting paid?
