The 'hype' was one bloke talking shit about a near 50yo former AFL player.

I use to sell footy records at the MCG close to 20 years ago. Think they were $3 a record then and you got paid $1 for every 3 that you sold. You did get to watch the second half of the game for free if you wanted though.

Now the season has ended for most teams we can talk about the elephant in the room ... the absolute abomination that is the umpiring at the senior level this season.

The worst I have ever seen by a long long way.

Is it time for clubs to supply senior umpires? Should Div3 Men's be given priority over the women's premier games?

I raised this point the other week. More often than not the reserves game, umpired by club appointed umpires is a better run game. Players understand very quickly how the game is going to be umpired and it flows accordingly.

League appointed umpires who don't have the fitness level to umpire a senior game, umpiring from the middle of the ground (sometime 30+ metres off the ball, is this how they are instructed??) and paying an obscene amount of 50m penalties as their way of taking control of the game.

Womans matches should only have one field umpire, they don't need two. This may at least provide another capable umpire in the lower grades.

It's no wonder that players, coaches and supporters become frustrated every week.

FWIW remarkable fixturing as then there is another seniors game after that. Wattle Park v Powerhouse.

It did. A mate of mines involved at NB and invited me down. I was shocked when he told me the start time. Thought it was a joke.

Can confirm. I did likewise at VFL park in the very late 80s/early 90s

They also did it to D1 / D2 1st semis last year (D2 res, D2 snr, D1 snr).

Middle game ran over time (stretcher case), so the D1 snrs didn't start until well after 3pm. If I was a player amped to play a final I would be pi55ed off about being made to twiddle my thumbs for an hour.

Playing 2 snrs games in a triple header is BS. If they are forced to play 3 games a day, make two fixed time (3rds, 2nds or U19s).

NB to get pumped. Nothing better than seeing them lose. Just scarping into finals this year, glad to see them on the decline. Couldn’t hack it last year either. Easy win for Richmond Central 1st week of finals.

Absolute walkover for NB this morning. Richmond were garbage.

At least now Richmond can stack their 2s next week, like they do every year.

PH somewhat shaken off their finals hoodoo of the last few seasons. Straight into the GF and promotion to D2.

They have certainly built a good culture over the past few seasons and hopefully cap off a great season in 2 weeks time.

Attended the NB v Richmond game last Sunday starting at 9:20am. Was hoping for a cracking game but NB were too dominant and won easily. Took my camcorder and recorded the last half. Link is below if anyone wants to have a look.

Senior or Reserves footy on a Father’s Day Sunday is horrendous scheduling by the VAFA, play the unders on the Sunday and let the Dad’s have their day on the couch.

Reduce the number of weeks off during the season and wrap everything up even earlier.
