I'd love to help you out Fosters but I don't know. Certainly the Suns 19s are going really well with full numbers, and nobody has said anything about WRFL except U9s-U16s. You can guess where Footy Purist plucked those little brown nuggets from. Seniors - stuff is still being finalised and no announcements have been made, no doubt I'll hear in due course the same as everyone else.

Got this email from Brian Goodman yesterday. Case closed

Good Afternoon
This is to inform all Division 4 clubs that Wyndham Suns have withdrawn from having a senior team in the VAFA competition for 2014, they have tried to attract enough players and were confident in achieving this but will now field an U19 team only this season.

This means unfortunately we will need to redo the fixture which is not want we wanted as I know clubs would have been setting their calendars around the fixture.

We will send out the new fixture ASAP and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind Regards,
Benny

Lol! Well that certainly raised my eyebrows, a bit premature of dear Benny as nothing has been announced by the club to anyone!

Obviously some interesting times ahead!

Edit: Honestly had no idea about this.

My son told me your very hard working (and incredibly dedicated) wife (Suns - Secretary) received this email yesterday as it was sent to all club secretary's. Did she not receive it?

The 2014 Div 4 fixture is out. Wyndham Suns and Westbourne Grammarians both in, therefore 2 byes each, plus no games on 3 other weekends (Easter, Queens B'Day and July 12) 5 weekends in a season with no footy. That's rubbish.
Good for old blokes like me though!

Two or three years ago I would have hated it. Now I'm pretty keen on the idea. Wouldn't want two in a row though. Space them out for me I say.

The proliferation of clearances from Whyndham Suns to Westbourne Grammerians would certainly indicate that this is correct. What does that mean for Grammerians? Is thislikely to make them a powerhouse in D4 this year?

Can they play in D4? Hearing mixed messages about the agreement between the two clubs, VAFA and AFL Vic.

If the suns are still in the VAFA, then can't they still knock back clearances for the "too many" rule?

I'd have thought that if there is no senior Wyndham Suns club then the VAFA wouldn't stand in their way. However if they played seniors in any competition the VAFA wouldn't allow it. Pretty sure that's the history of these events...

That's what I thought, but have heard otherwise since.

that Grammanians have to play seniors in Clubbies. heard from two different sources who usually have a good idea and well informed.

Might try and get hold of Benny G and find out.

Was told by my brother yesterday that Westbourne Grammarians had confirmed Suns were unable to fill both seniors and reverses and that Grammarians were allowed to have seniors and reserves, with the majority of the playing group allowed to play with Westbourne Grammarians

Well it must be correct if it came from your brother . . .

Pozzuto also out of Point Cook, McPherson won't play again for the Cobras, Notaro gone - certainly some D4 strikepower missing this year.

So to summarise:

Old Westbourne changed their name to Westbourne Grammarians, and their juniors all went to a new club in the WRFL called the Suns?

No. Old Westbourne moved to a new venue and changed their name to Wyndham Suns. Juniors still playing in WRFL and Seniors (not this year??) & U19s playing in VAFA.

Westbourne Grammarians, a new team formed, will play out of Westbourne Grammar school, which is where the Old Westbourne (now Wyndham Suns) use to play

So. Same players, same ground, same school. Different club.

Yep, basically correct, almost same players, some did go to the 'new' Wyndham Suns, not sure what they will do now, maybe head to Point Cook for a game. Also, no Juniors coming through

Exactly right

Only difference is the name. The old committee didn't agree with the schools decision to remove the juniors from the ground. So they reloacted Old Westbourne' to Wyndham (Suns), in the hope that everyone would come with them.

However within the senior group playing at the club, more than half have links with the school itself and commute from all over Melbourne to play at their old school club. So a new committee of past players and students were formed to keep a club at their home of Westbourne Grammar. This in turn kept the other players, due to the strong bonds formed with the past students and players over the past few years.

Not sure of any players besides 19s boys who have actually left to the new club, but good luck to them. As a player I respect the old committees decision to leave. I'm not a fan of the bad blood on this forum between the two and if they field a side good on them, if not then I hope their 19s do well as they're a good bunch of boys.

We have had great numbers throughout preaseason and are looking forward to fielding two strong seniors and reseerves sides in 2014, starting with a praccy match next Saturday at Westbourne (15th of March), all welcome. Is this clear enough for all of you not involved, from a players perspective?

So basically the senior group had no regard for the juniors that got kicked off the ground, so down the track when these 7-16 year old kids look to play senior footy, they will remember that school and club as the ones that turned their backs on them.

Wyndham Suns will be a strong club once those kids come through.

It would have been nice to have two clubs in the area for local rival this year.

You could look at it like that, and sure we understand the value of a strong junior program. However ultimately the school owns the land and the overuse of the ovals was a big issue to their curriculum. With minimal juniors actually coming from the school they didn;'t see the benefit to them, opposed to the ex student ratio amongst the senior group. THerefore juniors were told they weren't welcome to play at the school. This was the hand we were dealt, and we have responded strongly amongst the senior group with numbers in the preseason. Overall, it was not a decision made by the club, the school owns the land.

Why couldn't someone come out and say that 3 months ago?

Good on you blokes for having crack at what you want to do.

However, if my club was school based, and the school didn't accept the juniors, then i would hope that the whole club would remain united.

Afterall, that's pretty much what footy is about.

A lot of water had to go under the bridge and a lot was unnown. But I hope it clears it up for all of you outside observers. Case closed?

Can't argue with that. Although there was never really a strong link anyway, which is probably a fault of ours and the ex and current committees. but as a club we are as united now as we have been for a long time and looking forward to 2014. Anything else you want to be critical of? What's done is done, each party has had to deal with their issues (Wyndham, Westbourne and the school). It's time to move on and start to focus on and play some footy.
