Because there are only 9 teams.
When you really get down to it, you have to have 9 teams before you get to 10 teams.
And there was only one team who wanted to join the EFL this year.

Guessing a heap of movement between leagues next year

The Outer East experiment aint going to well, couple of the clubs involved have apparently allready approached the SFNL and the EFL
 
GMac, what I'm saying is this. The EFL would ideally like to have 10 teams in every division. Weaker or newer teams will come in to Div 4. If a stronger team wants to join they would probably go into 2nd or 3rd Division. Based on movements in the past, it is inevitable that further teams will join.

They were shit back then and the travel was worse than the YVMDFL.

I think it depends on the rules of that particular league. I dont think it is a Football Victoria rule.

Interesting regarding Wandin - i saw yesterday they had been beaten by over 100 points in consecutive weeks. Hopefully if they do come in they will start in Div 2 and not Div 4. They would smash all of Div 4 easily.
 
As predicted by many, some real problems with AFL Outer East. You have basically the biggest suburbs in Melbourne playing against small country clubs.

Unless the old SEFL clubs are ejected back out to find a new home, would expect many YVMDFL clubs to look toward the EFL.

All depends on the big clubs, Cranbourne, Berwick, Beaconsfield, Narre Warren, Pakenham etc. There’s been talk of West Gippsland, though not sure they would want them. Joining the Southern FL would make sense geographically, though apparently they’re not keen on “metro” footy (god know why).

There really needs to be some proper long term planning done. On top of it, they need new clubs out there. Cranbourne, Narre Warren, Pakenham etc have enormous populations that could support far more clubs and give more locals a game of footy. Of course, the existing clubs would be against it as it’d bite right into their very rich recruiting areas. Don’t blame them, who wouldn’t want 100+ players at pre season and an entire senior team of 1 point players.

Berwick Springs are in the pipeline, have heard some things about another senior club in Narre Warren.

The MPNFL are looking to expand to a third division, though the pre-requisite is that all new clubs must start at Division 3. Their aim seems to be to nab the southern-most clubs in the Southern league (Carrum-Patterson Lakes, Skye, Keysborough, Frankston Dolphins, Dandenong, etc.) to appease the southern peninsula clubs like Sorrento but, as you can see, the standard will be pretty low.

Funnily enough, Cranbourne were literally trying to smash the door down last year to get admitted without luck - would it be because Cranbourne (and the other ex-SEFNL clubs) would pose a much bigger threat to them than teams from the bottom tier of the SFNL?

Wandin actually forfeited in their reserves a couple of weeks back.The YVMDFL clubs are really struggling especially in the 2's and U18's against these new bigger clubs that have come into their competition.

The answer given to Cranbourne was travel time. I think the clubs to the north of Frankston were largely okay with them, but the clubs to the south (the clubs actually on the peninsula) were against it due to distance.

The clubs down there (Sorrento, Rye, Mornington, etc etc) have always objected to travel. The MPNFL had three conferences (Casey Cardinia, Nepean and Peninsula) which were geographic, but the league then decided they wanted to switch to three divisions. It was voted down on travel grounds. The Casey Cardinia clubs then broke away to form the SEFL, and the MPNFL finally got a two division structure in place - which southern clubs reluctantly signed up to.

So then the SEFL folds, and one of the SEFL clubs wants to rejoin the MPNFL... it was never going to happen.

To me the answer is reasonably straightforward. Clubs south of Frankston form their own Peninsula League (which is what they’ve always wanted anyway), and everybody else (MPNFL north of Frang, SEFL and SFL) from an expanded Southern League. But that would obviously cut the MPNFL in half, plenty of vested interests at league level, etc.

As i understand it, the southern peninsula sides were against a three-division MPNFL, against a two-division MPNFL (before it reluctantly happened) and were against Cranbourne. I’m pretty sure they’d be against any further northern expansion of the league!

(All general, there’s probably exceptions).

So is Heidelberg. If it wasn't for one club voting against them they'd be in the EFL.
