Round 11...... How time flies......

Swinburne @ South Mornington - The tigers can't afford to drop a game at home. If they lose this week and Eley Park get up over the Cobras then it might be time to start stacking the reserves. (Not that they need to). The Students will be burning from their first loss in a while.

SFX @ Chadstone - The fashion capital are starting to kick a few goals, but they still don't have the firepower to put a dent in the SFX armour.

Box Hill North @ RCAFC - Volunteers' Memorial Cup on the line once again. We lost at home to BHN in round 17 last season, it still hurts.

Eley Park @ Manningham - If Manningham can upset Eley Park they'll be right back in the hunt for the finals. They'll also be doing a huge favour to the other 4-6 teams.

North Brunswick @ Point Cook - Match of the round. NB were very impressive last week in Seniors and Reserves. Both teams will be expecting to win this game, and both will be desperate. The sides are evenly matched.

Reserves:

SM, RC, SFX, EP, NB

Round 11 Tips

South Mornington (7) vs Swinburne Uni (2) - SU by 3 goals.
Chadstone (10) vs St Francis Xavier (1) - SFX by ... a lot
Richmond Central (3) vs Box Hill North (8) - BHN by 1 goal.
Manningham Cobras (5) vs Eley Park (4) - MC by 1 goal.
Point Cook (9) vs North Brunswick (6) - NB by 2 goals.

Reserves: SM, SFX, BHN, EP, NB

Hey Waz, will Seb Angus be playing ruck this weekend? I would love to test myself against a Big V (C-D4) Ruckman.

South Mornington vs Swinburne Uni - SU by 6 goals.
Chadstone vs St Francis Xavier - SFX - will get pretty ugly.
Richmond Central vs Box Hill North -BHN a different side away from home....RC by 8 goals.
Manningham Cobras vs Eley Park - Eley Park also a bit of a different side away from home....but think that can sneak in by under a goal.
Point Cook vs North Brunswick - NB by 1 goal.

Reserves: SM, SFX, RC, EP, NB

Not sure what position he'll be playing... Personally I hope Woodberry gets another chance to ruck against you RM.

Bob... What's up with this comment in the Saturday Skinny ... "South Mornington made a coaching change and stormed home to upset the Razorbacks."

Probably referring to our reserves coach taking over the ones coaching role, but that happened after round 6

Yep... remeber that now...

Bob... Two big wins by your boys this week... But can you explain the dramatic improvement in form from the week before? Is it really just that no one wants to go to away games?

The reserves result was very impressive.

Yeah two good wins, I will say swinnys twos Fielded 16 I think due to injuries/school holidays maybe??, but the ones was a close physical game all day and we ran over them in the last qtr, as for last week we had two blokes out suspended and our number 1 ruck out coupled with we had an off day and brunny played well, nothing to do with players traveling we never have issues with that, I think this year has got to be the most even I've seen in D4, anyone can beat anyone on thier day and away wins are like gold, massive game vs Point Cook this week at home to keep the finals hopes alive...

Definately doubled taken when I saw that the Tigers had got points over the "front running. look at me, look at me" students. Then again after reading the above report, not that surprised that they were run over again by the opposition. Maybe a few extra 400m laps after training this week would be in order...

Great for the Competition that the South Mornington finals dream is still alive.

The Station masters had a terrific win of the BHN boys. The second quarter was the highlight, as the boys controlled the prune with terrific precision into the breeze and was the catalyst for the 100 point drubbing.

BHN were competitive until the final siren and I viewed the game as being played in good spirits.

The Central boys make the journey across the river to Eley Park. I unfortunately will not be able to make the journey, but Waz I am sure you will keep myself informed as to the progressive scores.

Whispers out...

1st v 3rd and 2nd v 4th this weekend. It's like a mini finals preview. Of course, SM and PC can still sneak in there and would be hoping for SU and EP to drop their matches...

Nick Cox and family along with Box Hill North have had the devastating and shattering news of the passing of Jo Cox,I first me her when she was boundary ump for BHN,she then moved to VAFA where her bubbly personality endeared her to all.I was at the ladies footy match when Jo broke her wrist and the courageous side of Jo shone through that day,no doubt this was evident as she battled cancer;I never saw her without a smile on her face, even recently when I saw her at Elgar Park.
I personally, Box Hill North and the VAFA community and the umpires will be the poorer for her passing.

Sincere condolences to Nick and family

IMO, the magic number for a finals spot this season is 12.

12 wins definately gets you in... 11 is a maybe (percentage will be important)....10 is a long shot.

Chadstone have been eliminated...
BHN and Manningham have an elimination match this week (effectively).

I think 11 will get you in. Only one of Pt Cook or South can get 12 (as they play each other this week) and both still have to play SFX again. I can't see either of them getting 12 wins and will struggle to get 11.

Hey Bigwaz,

Did big Seb making the interleague team??

From all reports the both Dan (BHN) & Daniel (Manningham) missed out??

Good luck to Angus in the game (as I understand he was selected numerous weeks ago). Well done.

Sorry Daniel (Manningham) - unfortunately you were never in the mix.

Same with Dan (BHN) - Penny has been in the VAFA for 5 years and would be the no.1 player at BHN opposition coaches plan for week in week out. Always a vote getter in the comp B&F and always in the leading goalkickers. This was his first invitation but really, it was just a token.

I also understand his report card from the squad coaches read one of the best trainers and "leaders" on the track, but even then he did not get a look in.

Makes a mockery out of the initial squad invitation.

Unless you have been "told" you are playing, I would suggest to all clubs not to bother in this farce of squad training.

The squad should comprise the best players from the selected divisions (and how is this worked out?? From what I understand coaches nominate their own players!! - the selectors wouldn't bother getting to a D4 game!!!!) Given it is the V"A"FA, no players are paid therefore all players are at the same level. Whether that is D4 or A grade, it shouldn't matter???? (another thread for a debate on player payments.......??)

What makes a C grade player any better than an D grade player? Or an A grade player any better than a D grade player? If the VAFA was truly an amatuer competition, the answer is absolutely NOTHING.

Training performance therefore should be paramount to selection.

Whilst it is great for the individual (and please I am not having a go at the merits of the individual or the said invitation or the invitees ability) lower division clubs should provide an immediate "thanks but no thanks" response. If the individual has been ""pre-selected" (ie Angus) the club will be quickly advised he is required at training.

One way to quickly sort out the token invitation.

:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown: VAFA - farce.

Congrats to big Seb. It's great that D4 can field a player in the rep side. I'm not sure who was the last player to do that, or when.

The only problem we have is finding a replacement ruckman for the big game v Eley Park this weekend.

Would Yaman from Swinny be the last in 2009
