Good luck to Angus in the game (as I understand he was selected numerous weeks ago). Well done.

Sorry Daniel (Manningham) - unfortunately you were never in the mix.

Same with Dan (BHN) - Penny has been in the VAFA for 5 years and would be the no.1 player at BHN opposition coaches plan for week in week out. Always a vote getter in the comp B&F and always in the leading goalkickers. This was his first invitation but really, it was just a token.

I also understand his report card from the squad coaches read one of the best trainers and "leaders" on the track, but even then he did not get a look in.

Makes a mockery out of the initial squad invitation.

Unless you have been "told" you are playing, I would suggest to all clubs not to bother in this farce of squad training.

The squad should comprise the best players from the selected divisions (and how is this worked out?? From what I understand coaches nominate their own players!! - the selectors wouldn't bother getting to a D4 game!!!!) Given it is the V"A"FA, no players are paid therefore all players are at the same level. Whether that is D4 or A grade, it shouldn't matter???? (another thread for a debate on player payments.......??)

What makes a C grade player any better than an D grade player? Or an A grade player any better than a D grade player? If the VAFA was truly an amatuer competition, the answer is absolutely NOTHING.

Training performance therefore should be paramount to selection.

Whilst it is great for the individual (and please I am not having a go at the merits of the individual or the said invitation or the invitees ability) lower division clubs should provide an immediate "thanks but no thanks" response. If the individual has been ""pre-selected" (ie Angus) the club will be quickly advised he is required at training.

One way to quickly sort out the token invitation.

:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown: VAFA - farce.
Great post Harvey, as far as i'm aware we at Nth Brunny had 3 players nominated and not one was given a training session to show their skills including Lucevic #13 who is a collingwood VFL listed player or #5 Pat Notaro . Whether they made it or not at least give them the oppotunity to show their ability and then make a judgement, good luck to Angus on making selection and bad luck to the boys that missed out (all of them would not have been out of their depth in my opinion).

The Big V site says Dimikopolous made the squad as well. Congrats to him and Seb.

Not sure that anyone form SFX ever gets on here?

Right...

RM, how do you think you went against the C-D4 ruckman? I didn't see all of the game but it looked like a good contest. Did you also tear your hammy? Someone told me taht the other day.

Round 12...................

Swinburne @ SFX - Huge match for Swinburne, and the numbers they had on the track last night suggest they're primed for a hard match. EP and RC will be hoping SFX stay true to form and hand them their third straight loss.

RC @ EP - Crucial match for both sides. A loss by EP sees them slip to one game ahead of South Mornington who can come home with a wet sail. A loss by RC has them fall back in the pack for the race to second spot. Also a massive reserves game!

PC @ SM - This is the VAFA road trip from hell. After SM thrash the PC reserves, their seniors will be full of confidence. The loser of this game is in a very tough spot.

Chad @ NB - Good to see chaddy kicking a few more goals each week.

MC @ BHN - Should be a close game, and hopefully BHN can pull one out after the rough week they've had.

Tips

EP - V - RC - Seb Angus is a huge loss as they do not have a genuine second ruckman. EP mids to get them over the top by 4 goals.

Swinburne - V - SFX - Based on last week's result SFX by 10 goals

SM -V - PC - South appear to be hitting some good form and should get over the top by 4-5 goals

NB - V - CH - NB by 20 goals

MC - V - BHN - Manningham to get over the line by 4 goals

Reserves

SFX, SM, NB, MC, RC

A bloke whose younger brother is a ruckman for an AFL club, I think thats reasonably genuine.

SFX v Swinny, Swinny seem to fall away each year perhaps last week was the beginning, gonna make the call they drop out the 4 from here, SFX by 52pts. Eley v Rich, My Match of the Round, Eley play there ground really well and Rich will be looking to go two games clear in second, hard to call but gonna go Rich in a close one (hopefully), Rich by 11pts. South v P.Cook, massive game for both clubs, the loser is officially out of the finals race, while were still not at our best I feel we are finding some good form and should get over the line, Must stop Marsh obviously, South by 24pts. Chaddy v NB, NB by 134pts. Mann v BHN, dont know probably mann at home, Manningham by 21pts. Reserves : SFX by 91pts, Rich by 67pts, SM, NB by 168pts, Mann by 34pts...

I thought I went ok against 'The Big Angus' (massive unit). Was a pretty even contest up until half time. I injured my knee on the stroke of half time and played no further part in the game.

I'll be expecting an invite to Big V training next season ... might even get preselected :D

Round 12 Tips

North Brunswick vs Chadstone - NB by 16 goals.
South Mornington vs Point Cook - SM by 4 goals.
Box Hill North vs Manningham Cobras - BHN by 1 goal.
St Francis Xavier vs Swinburne Uni - SFX by 7 goals.
Eley Park Sharks vs Richmond Central - RC by 4 goals.

Reserves: NB, SM, BHN, SFX, RC

All umpires will be wearing black armbands today in memory of Jo. I had the privilege of training and doing a few games with her.

The rep umpires may (subject to discussion with VCFL) be wearing armbands today, and the plan is for all A, B and C section umpires next week.

All the best to BHN for today.

Is it wrong to have a little s****** on the rep C-D4 result???????

Farce.

Fully agree Harvey they copped their right whack!. Some interesting results on the weekend with both SFX and RC being knocked off,it's a very even season and anyone can win on their day . I have to give Chadstone a big thumbs up also, in their ones they turn up up everyweek and have a real crack. They have improved vastly from our first encounter and really took the challenge up to our boys, I have nothing but respect for their efforts !

Yep RC got whooped out at Eley Park in both seniors and reserves. It was a big wake up call to our two's who've had all the lower ranked sides in the past 5 weeks.

EP seniors played really well and beat us all over the ground.

Good win by our boys down at South with 3 key position players missing and our captain going off injured at qtr time, had to eat my words on Swinny after getting the scores text on Saturday night, still two games out the four with Eley, SFX and richmond at home, chaddy, BHN and manningham away, still in our hands I reckon

Couple of stories that tend to crop up over the course of a season..........

1. Player (ex committee man!) joins club after being told by previous club would not get a game. Old club rings up 3 days before clearance deadline and asks if wants to come back because not enough players!

2. Recently promoted club rings up another club and asks to train on ground as theirs is a sh*t heap. Unfortunately this club unliked by all and done no favours for anyone else.......perhaps mutual respect and humbleness might have worked in favour from previous year!!!!! Has anybody seen or heard from Sneako?????????

I don't know about the 2nd half of that story, but what is missing in the first part is context, which lets face it is the eternal truth on what is effectively a chat board.

Hmmmmmm...........you tell us the context of the story then IFF!

My understanding is the player was told by the coaching staff, after a near full preseason, he would be "lucky" to get a run in the magoos........still wanted to play footy so joined another club.

Receives a call, 3 days before clearance due, asking to come back and play because numbers are poor.

What other context can you spin on that? :):):)

I think we need to put an alert out for Sneako - I fear he may have met with foul play.

Can somebody from the poo farm please cast a line from clubrooms and see if he is at the bottom of the dam?

Or maybe he has floated away to Werribee??? :):):)

Let's say the conversation went something like this....

Player has some reservations about being able to train; job, 2 kids & that poisoned chalice called a wife (when they're good they're great, when they're not..............). Goes to see coach expressing these reservations & there is some conversation about how the team is lining up & the fact that no-one is guaranteed a game based on numbers being pretty good & looking like March champions. (Pretty much every club that isn't struggling for numbers is pretty keen on their chances at that time of year.)

Said player (ex-club president by the way) has conversations with the club about umpiring for the club in a paid capacity. Next thing he's signed on a promise of 'senior football' (which I noticed he did play on Saturday) at BHN under our previous coach Laurie. After numerous discussions with club people about his decision & how ridiculous it was that he wasn't good enough to play football at the Cobras, he decided to depart for BHN.

It was disappointing to lose Vinno from the club & some of his best mates still play down there, however he made his choice & no one at the club would ever be less than welcoming if he walked back in the door. (Funny - in my day the last thing a bloke would have done would have been to change teams within the same division. Obviously just more evidence of getting old!)

Vinno would be the first bloke to acknowledge he's got a decent jaw on himself & he may even embellish a story a little to keep his audience on occasion. I can only assume that maybe he shortened the story to make it a decent listen, rather than bore anyone with the details.

As I'm sure I just have.

Let's say the conversation went something like this....blather blather

And can I add one further bit of context as the person who asked for the call to be made;

It wasn't made coz we were short.

It was made because we want Vinno at our club. At the time the idea was floated Vinno was yet to play a senior game. We thought we would have one last crack at getting a past president home.

There is no harm in asking the question.

Hope this doesn't spoil the story too much. I much prefer hearing from other club presidents

IFF - porkies!!

Plugger - no harm in asking but a pretty rude IMO. And porkies about being short - Muzza might help you fill in the holes in your story.......

And I'm not the president! Kotsa would be proud to be HarveyWB....:):):)
