Dizzy to wipe England.

In the upcoming Ashes series I think that Jason Gillespie will be the most dangerous Australian bowler. That is if he stays fit.

I think England are going to be concerntrating so much on handling McGarth and Warne that they might relax slightly against Gillespie.

Dizzy performs well against England and in recent tests he has been producing some sizzling spells... I think he is on the verge of some dominating performances.

Well i've always felt that Gillespie's potential is far greater than that of McGrath, he's about the same height so can get the same bounce, he's quicker & a much better swing bowler.The big plus for us if he's injured for any of the Tests is that he seems to have a hold over Trescothick much more so than McGrath & from our point of view we need Vaughn & Tresco to get us off to a good start.

Of course McGrath is mr consistency, he bangs away on/outside off short of a length & invited batsmen to make a mistake whilst Gillespie pitches it up a bit more & looks to get people out.
If every bowler bowled like McGrath then Test cricket would be a real bore it's the bowlers like Gillepsie,Donald,Lee & Ahktar that set the pulse racing it's McGrath,Pollock,Fraser & even Ambrose that try to ruin it with their short of a length nagging lines.

In all probability most Tests will be decided without Warne having to do much but I have no doubt that if he gets the opportunity he will once again show that of all the Australian bowlers he is the one that we really have no answer to.

agree, but i wouldn't say they ruin it with their style of bowling. Amrbose was as good to watch as anyone.

But yes, if everyone bowled like McGrath it would get rather boring, but i'd much rather see McGrath in the team winning and boring us (even though i think bore is abit harsh of a word) then have someone else in there and ahving us lose.

Yeah I admit to going a bit over the top

It's just that sometimes watching these sort of bowlers when they are just trying to provoke an error you realise that if every bowler did this it would get pretty terrible.

As for Ambrose he was a funny one, he was capable of bowling a spell where he'd get 5 wickets in about 4 overs for about 3 runs & when he was bowling like that he was virtually unplayable but I remember watching him over here in England a few times when a couple of batsmen had played themselves in & he'd bowl just short of a length & there was virtually no chance for the batsmen to score a run, the drive was completely taken out of the game & he wasn't even bowling short enough for them to take him on with the hook or pull shot, the run rate would sloooooooow right down & the only runs were the odd single down to third man the batsmen weren't in any trouble but sooner or later they'd try & force the pace & bingo one's out & then we get the collpase.For sure it's intelligent bowling & but it just strikes me as negative that's why i love the blokes who are brave enough & have big enough balls to take the batsmen on & are willing to go for a few runs-in this respect I've seen few bowler's I admire more or would pay to watch than Allan Donald-he'd try everything-go for real pace, bouncers, slower balls, outswingers, insinwgers, yorkers, bowl round the wicket.

Interesting how you say he is on "the verge of some dominating performances". He's hardly a bolter who's just arrived on the Test scene - he made his Test debut almost 6 years ago and despite various injuries, has still managed to play 34 Tests. He's now quite an experienced player.

Due to his injuries and the constant building up of him in the media by the likes of Steve Waugh, I think Gillespie has become slightly overrated if anything.

Since the start of 2001, Gillespie has played 17 Tests for 58 wickets at an average of over 33. Hardly the stats of one of the leading bowlers in Test cricket.

And Kaysee, it's also interesting how you say Dizzy bowls some sizzling spells, yet how often has it transferred into individual Test match bowling performances? Not as often as most people would presume, and very rarely in the past couple of years.

Make no mistake, Gillespie is a very good bowler, but he's not a matchwinner in the class of Warne and McGrath.
