Did anyone else notice Arsenal's away strip last weekend. Yes you guessed it brown and gold (or yelow). and it looked great. Yellow top, brown shorts.
That cements my decision to support the Gunners.
Arsenal the new Hawthorn!!!!!!!

I'm an arsenal fan and as much as I'd like to believe they share similar philosophies, they are clearly two worlds apart.

Hawthorn - hard and can win under pressure
vs
Arsenal - soft and mentally fragile

Im with the Warden.:) Arsenal win alot of games and don't win when it counts. Hawthorn a little the opposite, find it hard to make top 4, but when they do, they can win crunch games.

Hawthorn = Novak Djokovic.

2008- Australian Open Champion. Was very young. Enjoyed the win a little too much.

2011- The hunger is back, 2011 Australian Open Champion.;)

Is also not openly like, unlike the golden boys of tennis in Federer and Nadal.

Do you mean like Arsenal we have had no success for 50 years, then yes.

Sorry mate, you call yourself an Arsenal fan and yet you accuse them of being soft and mentally fragile.

I think you'll find that Arsenal finished higher than Hawthorn for both of the last 2 seasons.

Arsenal aren't soft, they're overachieving, they've got a squad of players that cost less than those of Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd by hundreds of millions(even clubs like Tottenham & Liverpool have spent far more on players), their most expensive signing ever cost £17m, and yet despite this handicap they're 2nd in the league and have a chance of winning the title (as long as they beat Man Utd at home then it's on).

They've gone down a route of developing kids because they can't afford top name players like the other three. It's that of experience and quality that holds them back in the big games.

If the English premier league had a salary cap and drafting nothing would hold Arsenal back, their ability to unearth players and the way they develop them is second to none.

Unlike the above 3 teams they can't get away with paying £20-30m for a player who turns out to be a dud signing...Veron/Robinho/Shevchenko to name 3 from those clubs amongst many more.

They're two bloody great clubs, with great histories and I'm proud to support them both.

As for Arsenal = Hawthorn

I'm not sure about that but definitely Franklin = Henry

Both amazing physical specimens combining out and out pace with sublime skills, both nominally play the CF/FF role and yet aren't at their best doing the traditional 'bread and butter' stuff that goes with it (Henry never scoring headers or tap ins, Franklin missing set shots from straight in front) but both absolutely unstoppable when they float out , especially to the left and pull off some outrageous piece of skill.

A few days ago in the Adelaide Advertiser, they had a photo of some women footballers who play for a teams called the Hawks. They wore the brown & gold striped jumper, but had a big hawk on the front of the jumper. It sounds cluttered, but to he honest it looked pretty good. Then again, it didn't have advertising logos all over it.

Colour blind?

Arsenal's colours are red & white.
They have an away strip of yellow with redcurrant trim - there is no brown

.

Same old Arsenal, still no trophies. :)

No, I always think of Arsenal as a team with an outstanding coach, who is able to turn relatively unknowns into amazing talents.

I'd say we're more like Chelsea - at least recently. Have spent our time recruiting ready made talent and recently struggled to develop our own (see Guerra, Burgoyne, Gilham, Hale, Gibson, Bruce...).

Lots of potential, but not quite delivering.

He did say away strip.

In any case, Arsenal's away colours are Maroon and Yellow as Davo mentioned.

(I only know 16 colours and 'redcurrant' ain't one of them! ;))

And that's different to Arsenal? How many english guys play for the Gunners??

Ah Gary - good to see you posting again..........

I, like many other supporters, hate seeing Arsenal looking like Canaries.

Look like Canaries, play like Canaries.

Whilst on Arsenal, has any one read the book or seen the movie "Fever Pitch". A must read and a must see for any football fanatic.

every other top club would be fighting off relagation for the past 15 years if they had the meagre funds that arsenal have had.outstanding organisation. if they only had buddy and cyril !

Look, I agree with most of what you have said but at the end of the day football is a business and as great as Arsene's sustainable business model is, the professor has overlooked a few key points.

1.) Arsenal is a brand - every year that goes by that Arsenal don't win a trophy the goodwill of the brand diminishes - the effect of this is two-fold:

a.) we become less attractive to the top players and therefore our ability to attract and keep the best talent reduces. Sure, young unknown players will continue to come to Arsenal because they know their development under Wenger will be fast-tracked, however there is a good chance they will come to view the club as a platform to bigger things.

b.) the fan base suffers - quite simply, successful teams foster larger supported bases: why do you think there are so many pool/richmond supporters now: because they were both incredibly successful in the 80s/late 70s respectively.

Also, the argument that we spend much less on players is a moot point - our wage bill is still the 2nd or 3rd highest in the league. Even if Spurs are spending more on transfers, their net expenses are less when you factor in the coin we are paying some of the duds on our list.

Plus we are a bigger, and better club than spurs - why are we even comparing the two? The day I heard Wenger say that 'coming 2nd is an achievement' signalled that he's happy with mediocrity. If Hawks finish 2nd and Clarko said that he washappy with that result i'd be pretty disappointed.

Still love Arsenal, but geez they're a frustrating club to support sometimes (goes for Hawks too I guess).

actually, since the 03/04 season, arsenal have made a 2 million pound profit on players sold and players bought.spurs have a net spend of 128 million pounds.hardly a moot point.

arsenals wages are high, because they pay the younger players more than what they would get somewhere else.this is one of the ways they attract these younger players.younger players values go up,older players value go down.

fact is ,arsenal are paying of a new stadium, and when it's paid off,the club will be in an unbelievably strong financial position.with the new financial rules coming into play next season, they may already be.the days of big clubs splashing the cash at will, are over.

perhaps you should have a look at:

and

http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.p...enal-spurs-are-much-wiser-with-their-finances

It is a certainly a moot point when we're spending an extra 50 million quid a year on our wages.

not when you factor in the on sale price of our players compared to spurs.salaries at arsenal are at 50 percent of turnover, second only to united at 44 percent, spurs at 52 percent(your data is from 2008)).also the property business refered to in the article(also 2008) you provided, was sold off a while ago, wiping off 157 million of debt.we are paying off a 320 million pound stadium(not cheap, but net debt is now at 130 mil) that brings in huge income and we have qualified for the champions league 13 years and counting, and we are profitable.spurs need a new stadium, qualified once in the champions league in the last 13 years and won't next year.and can't turn a profit......i know which model i would prefer, and it ain't the spurs one.unfortunately trying to compete with the chelseas of the world can only lead to disaster, and they are not exactly setting the world on fire.clarko lives in a world of salary caps, wenger does not and therefore needs to be financially responsible.liverpool is the perfect example of what happens when you spend more than you can afford, europa league?no thanks.having said all that,i do agree with you.sell arshavin and eboue and get hazard would be a good idea.bedtner doesn't do it for me and would be happy to see him moved on for the right price.what won't happen is 18 mil for a centre back like cahill.wenger just won't spend that sort of money on a defender.
