Everyone said Richmond needed to rebuild after 2016 so there is hope. A more recent example is Collingwood in 2021 who apparently had the worst list in the AFL and were going to be screwed for years, look how that turned out.
Yes, they are good examples and blues do indeed have the core of a team that is genuinely finals worthy

Carlton played finals in 2023 and 2024 so yes finals worthy. Cripps, Weitering, McKay and Walsh is a solid core to build around you just have to hope Carlton are making the right tweaks.
Their list is more balanced with recent small/medium forward additions. The previous forward 50 setup was Curnow/McKay or bust as they were surrounded by scrubs like Durdin, Fantasia, White and Motlop. It didn't help that Curnow often refused to chase and tackle once the ball was going the other way.

Similar to Richmond under Hardwick who made tweaks to the forward 50 system after losing Vickery and Griffiths it was said they'd struggle with Riewoldt and a mosquito fleet but they made it work. There is hope for Carlton if their A graders get back to their best after all having down years in 2025 and the new recruits help to revitalise a team that was looking stale so far it looks like the right moves have been made on/off field, the side needs to improve consistency as well it must be frustrating for the supporters seeing their side beat top 4 Geelong and lose to bottom 4 Richmond in the same season.
