Just like auctioneers use stooges in the crowd to stage bids to raise the price of a property, do you think the casinos use people to play in tourneys and hopefully win the main prize?

Went to the Burswood with a mate who was playing in a tourney and he mentioned one of the players was always there and he surmised that he may be employed by the casino.

Anyone have any idea this is so?

I doubt it. What's in it for the casino? Very little. They are making their money off rake/entry fees etc. as well as other spending while in the casino. If they did this and were found out it'd be REALLY bad for their image.

Id agree with that top part esp. The casinos love the game of poker. Its impossible for them to lose money unlike other games.

Well, I think the point is, is that if you put a "plant" in a game, he can take other peoples money, and the casino get that, plus a rake. There are actually rumours of this happening mostly in Vegas casinos at higher limits. The thinking behind this is, that professionals play fish businessmen at higher limits and take their money, so why can't the casino employ someone to do the same?

It's highly unlikely, as casinos make enough from games other than poker as it is, but that's the theory.

It's the same as the rumour that online poker rooms have "bots".

It's possible but doesn't seem logical if you are a pro poker player. If accusations like this were proven people would stop playing at those casinos... not good for biz.

Why would the casinos do that? They make plenty of money from tournaments anyway. Prime example, is the Aussie Millions. Its $10500 to enter. $10000 goes to the prize pool while $500 goes to casino. When you consider that Crown was expecting 500 players, thats $250k to the casino's coffers. Take away the wages of the staff running the tournament and its still over $200k profit.
