No. All the journos and ITKs are saying Footscray have that offer in front of Butters right now, and offered it last trade period but Port Power shut it down. Given they just moved Ugle-Hagan off their books it's hardly unrealistic to suggest they are in position to land a big fish.
Fair enough, I reckon that JUH was on more than our part-payments to Treloar + Grundy, so you make a lot of sense.

Love it if we could sneak in a pull off a Houston type manouevre, but I doubt Footscray would fumble like Carlton did.

The Collingwood ITKs say we have been into King for ages but failed to move the Suns (for obviuous reasons).

Dangerfield is barely a top 10 player for them anymore.

Would have been alot more relevant had you mentioned Bailey Smith.

Holmes, Miers, Dempsey, Atkins, Mannagh are all guys they have recently drafted and developed and are in their best 10

Despite getting the likes of Cameron and now Smith, they were still able to add the likes of O'Sullivan and Clark (jury still out) as top 10 picks.

They have done their usual out their ass recruiting with Humphries, Neale, Dempsey, Holmes etc.

Someone like Mitch Edwards was always a good pick for them.

They've naturally cycled good bargain recruitment at the draft to compliment their FA or trade recruits (with a fair bit of help from the GC along the way).

I suspect they are going to be a big player in the FA space in the next few seasons as well as probably try and hit the middle of the draft for 2-3 years.
They have a unique advantage of offering a different lifestyle to any other Victorian club, whilst being well coached and perennially successful of late.

They’ve had it on easy mode when it comes to recruiting via trade / FA. Give any other club 2x top echelon in the AFL players like Danger and Cameron on the cheap (salary and picks) and they’d do pretty well too.

It’s really not something we are going to be able to emulate… is it?

My prayer is that we retire off a bunch of the older crew this year (maybe trade Hill/JDG if need be) and muster FA offers for Butters and King that can’t be matched.

100% they need a rebuild and their list manager needs to be sacked !

Sure mate. As is always ignored we paid for 2 all australians, a rising star. a embedded top 22 player tp play at other sides and won a flag.

Thats the list manager that needs a massive pay rise. I wont mention the Carlton list manager,. its embarrassing what he has done with that side

Delusional....

Loving your Dad's Army team with no quality youth whatsoever coming through

yes for this year mini rebuild then time to launch again in 2027 and 2028.
Got to start blooding youth now.
Lean times now.
Got the Pies in there in 9th or 10th and make wildcard and thats about it for 2026.
Take stock of what the list is then make the needed changes at seasons end.
Raft of changes expected at the Pies.
Then embark on getting back in the flag mix come 2028.
Level out first then come again.
Not expecting anything in 2026.
Make wildcard is a pass for the Pies in 2026.

Mini rebuild for 2 seasons?

Outside of Daicos, your other best 5 players on the weekend were Crisp (33), Pendlebury (38), De Goey (30), Cameron (31).

Who exactly are you building around in 3 years? Especially as "mini" suggests, mid picks and maybe some FA selections.

Your mid 20's players in the side on the weekend were McCreery, Parker, Long, Quaynor and Rohan Steele. Moore would fit in here obviously.

Who is the core of this side in 3 years? Noting you need a hell of a lot more than a good core in this current league. Look at Port Adelaide.

Its a shame they won that fluke flag in 2023 after the ball bounced their way at the end of every close game (of which there were many). Couldn't put teams away as they weren't a great team.

And only beat Melbourne in the first final because that mouth breather Maynard knocked out Brayshaw. Massive asterisk next to that flag.

i

I stopped reading after the first line, We finished 3rd, everything else you have said is redundent

While they finished 4th in the H&A, the run home was actually a massive struggle where the wheels nearly came off.

In a six-week stretch (R18–R23), they went 1–5. Their only win in that month and a half was against a struggling Richmond. They went into the final round against Melbourne needing a win to guarantee a top-four spot and the double chance. It was a gritty Collingwood performance—they won by 6 points.

Beat Adelaide in that first final...as I said and widely accepted by all, Adelaide choked! Yes you finished 3rd end of season.

The team limped into the finals and have carried that H&A form into '26.

Most of what I'm posting is pure fact.

McStay and Membrey - average at best forwards. Membrey finished. McStay averages less than 1 goal a game.
Pies points for was mid table last year.
This year, regressed to 14th.

Sample size of 2 games is not enough and we need to wait another month before we can truly get a firm view of where they are at and how they are playing. The picture has begun to be painted however.

Thanks for your incisive insights. I will put an asterisk on that flag win and pretend it didnt happen

Whether you like it or not we have won one more final in 2025 than Essendon have won this century. Gold coast have won 1 final in their history. Winning finals is not easy. Winning htem interstate beating the minor premiers is actually a good win.

As for our run of losses we were competitive in all of those games except the Hawthorn game.

We gave gold coast a 50 point head start and almost beat them
We were 4 goals in front of Freo and and lost because a fresh hayden young came on and went beserk as a sub. We also should have had the most obvious free of all time given to us but the umpires didn't understand our tactics and called a ball up instead of holding the ball. Macrae is ahead of the game.

Collingwood haven't nailed odd picks at draft anywhere like Geelong have in the last 5 or so years. Over half of their side weren't even drafted by them. They seemingly do their best work with role players at the trade table. That only works if you have a strong core though.
Just because Dangerfield isn't at his peak doesn't mean he isn't a dependency for them. Without him they probably lose to Fremantle on Saturday. He also singlehandedly won multiple close games last year; Geelong would've missed top 4 without him.
Not even sure why you're mentioning Mitch Edwards. He struggled badly against the dockers.

Geelong's list is in a far better spot than Collingwood's, but I doubt they will be contenders any time soon.

We have not had a top 5 list in forever but since 2022 we win. We had Frampton Oleg and some very ordinary players in 2023, last year the same all year and still finished 3rd. In 2024 there were times where we had 25 players to pick from hence having players like Jack Bytel playing but finished a respectable 9th.
I am not saying we are going to win multiple flags, but we will be around top 8 for a long while yet
By all means keep living in fantasy land. It's all the same stuff West Coast fans, Hawthorn fans and Richmond fans were saying.

No doubt you believe Pendlebury has a few years left too.

I am in no way delusional. I have suffered through many grand final losses and shit teams and even worse the Buckley years where we should have had 2 or more flags after 2010 but anyway...

We will be fine

2023 the Pies had JDG at his best as far as impact and durability. Mitchell had his last hoorah as a player too, the veteran types (Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Crisp) all had more gas in the tank. Therefore the midfield was more than capable.

Hill had a huge impact up forward and even McStay was useful for a season. Checkers was bloody important as well.

Defence-wise the Pies are still excellent, but were even better with Howe yet to reach the cliff and Murphy supporting Moore. Yes, Frampton came in and overall has been solid, but it's a step down that has been realised over the past 2 seasons.

There haven't been enough positives in the ledger to make up for the above that Collingwood had in 2023. They've won a single final since, but it was part of a shakey conclusion to 2025.

Fluke flag? Finished top, beat the form sides, and aren't we 7-1 vs Melbourne in recent years?

system not list. We basically had the same list for the previous 2 years and finished 17th

2023 list was much, much better than the current one for the reasons I explained. 2026-2027 you are probably looking at 2024 level seasons and then you'd hope some excellent youth is coming through by then.
its basically the same with a few changes. just a bit older. We will slowly replace them as we move on. If we get a couple of free agents or good trades we will be fine.

Who knows with youth. Tigers have drafted a heap of supposed good ones they have all had major injuries already. At least the way we trade we know what we are getting. And we can put them where they play best

The few changes that I have already highlighted are why it's a much worse list. Players have left, had issues, declined or are very close to the end.

Coming from a Dees supporter with a Covid flag.

FMD, heard it all now

All I can pick up from this thread is:

Many key players are getting older and a number will be retiring end of this year and next
We have a regressing forward line that is unable to put enough points on the board
Our key backmen are injury riddled
We have youth coming through that is untried
We will simply trade in guns (how we do it we don't know as we have no draft picks)
We will draft guns via the draft (with only 1 first rounder - which may need to be used to trade in guns)
We are well coached that keeps us in games (agree)
We have Nick Daicos

Nothing to see here folk. Move along.

And for the record, yes the Tigers have a lot of high draft picks that may eventually come to nothing. Absolutely understand that may be the case. Injuries, lack of development etc.. I'm all on-board though with the clubs strategy to get us back up there.
