We beat Adelaide who finished top in a final over there
Bingo, that's the single game since May 2025 where Collingwood have beaten a decent team.

Losses to Gold Coast, Fremantle, Brisbane, Hawthorn, Brisbane again, Adelaide, Brisbane again and Freo again surrounding that single win against Adelaide.

1-8 against the good teams over an 11 month period. Not a bad side but on the way down and very, very old.

Where’s their youth?
Anderson and?
Have to be the worst 20-25 year old list in the league
25 and under before the start of the season.

It's pretty dire. Outside of McCreey and Naicos, they've barely played more than 100 games between them.

Compare that to Geelong and Hawthorn. Two Victorian teams without Northern State academies who haven't significantly benefited from recent F&S (I've excluded the Bulldog's from the list for this reason) and are primed in both list age/experience for a deep finals tilt.

The difference is stark.

List of AFL games this century where the margin was in single figures for the entire game:

2002 GF: Brisbane & Collingwood
2010 R11: Sydney & Essendon
2026 R5: COLLINGWOOD & FREMANTLE

They finally look to be in a world of hurt. Still, they have the runs on the board. Always remain in contention and should be able to attract a couple of big name signings in the next couple of years.

Probably the first time in a while they genuinely look to be devoid of any quality youth. Daicos the only one.

Who are they going to attract when everyone has heard that Nick is looking around?

If they can get a King's ransom for Nick, they would be stupid not to do so and that in itself can completely revitalize your clubs fortunes.

Nick is a great player be we aren't talking about a Wayne Carey here.

Then comes the process of going through exactly what your own club (Hawthorn) just did. 4-5 lean years of development before getting it right again.

10 goals per game for the Pies this season so far.

Which kids are going to revamp the forward line?

As far as the midfield delivering it to them in the coming years, you're looking at Long, Anderson, Steele and Allan being N.Daicos' running mates. Not quite the level of Pendlebury, De Goey, Sidebottom, Crisp and J.Daicos (now a defender).

They feel like a side that is only being held together by a thread made up entirely of Craig McRaes system.

If they move away from that then the entire edifice will collapse in upon itself.

I don’t think they have them on the list.

I can see Collingwood regenerating their list like Melbourne are currently doing, rather than going down the Richmond route.

Having a high quality coach in McRae is a great asset, and if Collingwood can get Ben King it would be a real game changer.

Melbourne have young top end talent.

Collingwood have Nick Daicos and that’s it.

Everyone keeps saying that but premierships of late have been won by the oldest teams, and we'll go on another free agency spree next year and be straight back in it, bottoming out doesn't work, there are no good examples of it in the modern game. And we obviously do something right with this many cups.

I’m immediately reminded of the post early in this thread where brash what do you meanl Collingwood supporters were declaring in 2025 that you would take your pick of Rowell, Richards and LDU at the end of last season…….

Doesn't matter, we'll just keep doing what we do, having the most premierships with the best win rate of all time.

Collingwood have headed the premiership table on and off for almost 70 years, that's longer than all the other 17 clubs put together... unrivalled dominance!

Only a couple of those cups have been won under modern list building arrangements.

13, arguably 14, were won under completely different rules. That is not to say they aren’t credible, but they don’t have anything to do with the conversation of how to develop a list under the current rules.

It's the same until it changes, looking at the ladder right now, it hasn't changed.
