Do we even have 4th round picks? At least try not to exaggerate. We also have 1st and 2nd rounder picks that might make a difference. So why the "deluded" hyperbole?

You've got Hayes and MCCarthy, both 4th rounders. You've got far less 1st and 2nd rounders, by virtue of the fact that the average draft pick for your under 25's is 37. That's Round 3.

Of your 22 under 25 players, 6 were taken in Rounds 1 and 2, but only Nick was taken in the top 10.

What the obsession with 25-27 year olds in 2020 the year before we fell to 17th? Why not 2022 or 2017 two years right before we made the grand final. Even 2019, 2021 or 2024 where we made prelims would be better. Maybe looking at 2017, 18, 21, 22, 24 as a combined result would be the way to go. Why the cherry pick of one year that suits your argument? In the end it looks like a dumb choice because of the result in 2021 (17th).
On top of this 23-29 year olds go alright as well. So why focus on 25-27? Oh because it suits your argument. In the end its such a weak argument. You cherry pick data and show no analytical skills. Do you understand the term statistical significance?
Now to a better argument.

It's not an obsession, its a clear link to those you who keep banging on about how no one rated you heading in 2022.
In 2021 Collingwood had 6 players between 25-27 who polled the most votes in the AFLCA and were instrumental the following year.
Collingwood don't have that in 2025, as I pointed out previously. The top 6 AFLCA vote winners for Collingwood in 2025 included 3 players over the age of 32.

We got lots of solid players in the 23-27 age group who are hitting their peek or who have shown a bit like:
Daicos
Daicos
Lipinski
Steele
Perryman
Sullivan
Buller
Hill
Houston
Maynard
Quaynor
Schultz
Parker
McCreery
McInnes
Frampton
Long

All have AFL games under their belt. Plenty of quality as well. That's like 17 players to build a team around. Throw in DeGoey, Cameron, Moore, McStay at 30 Crisp at 31 (who never misses) and we have a starting line up for a few years. The rest is depth but who knows who will step up or fall apart.

Lots of role players at or near their peak already, like Lipinski, Sullivan, McInnes, Frampton, Long, Perryman... Do you really think they're about to lift you back up the ladder? Or simply keep you mid-table?

njuries could cut us down like it did in 2024 and it does to many clubs. But it's not an immediate cliff. I do really like the way our fitness bloke has performed over the last 4 years since he has come in. Maybe in 2-3 years if our talent sucks and we get no quality trades. Or if we cut deep in the next say 1-2 years by cutting everyone over 31. If we lose all of DeGoey, Moore, Howe, McStay, Cameron, Crisp, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Elliott and Membrey say next year then we are looking at a North like rebuild.

The way I see it is the plan for the future is more of the same:
The Pies will continue to cut about 2 to 3 veterans a year for the next 4-5 years. For example potentially at the end of:
2026 Pendlebury, Howe, Membrey
2027 Sidebottom, Elliott, McStay
2028 Crisp, DeGoey, Frampton
2029 Moore, Cameron Houston
2030 Maynard, Lipinski

On top of that continue to bring in solid trade and free agency pick ups if possible. Drafting will be the last priority unless we enter a full rebuild.

If Collingwood miss finals or even finish in the bottom half of the 10, you'll likely go full rebuild, and you'll have to because you wont have players lining up to sign with the oldest list in the comp that's trending backwards, just like you didn't land any of LDU, Rowell or Richards, like Pies fans were telling me you'd take your pick of earlier this year.

It is effectively just asking which teams have the most early draft picks, as a rookie pick or pick 50 aren't as "talented" as a pick 3.

It isn't a development league. Lists are not solely built by drafting 18 year old kids.

Being young is not an advantage.

The Pies top tier talent in 2025 were the Daicos brothers, D.Cameron in the ruck, IQ across half back and Elliott up forward.

So Collingwood don't have quality players in the age range of 25-27? (at the moment). Well isnt that good news because the one year we did have players in that age group we finished 17th. How old were our best players in 2022 the year before we won the grand final? Surley that's the year to look at. We're they old? I mean if you want to focus on one year (by the way you shouldn't because it limits your data) then 2022 is the year.

Keep us mid table? Are we mid table now? (4th in 25) What happens if we have a good year from DeGoey? Hill? McStay? McInnes? (Was injured most of 2025 so he can improve). These were all players who struggled to impact 2025 because they didn't play or were injured. Hey I dont think we can win it in 26, but this argument lacks depth.

So teams outside the top 5 cant attract players? Where did StKilda finish? Maybe Collingwood can attract players like St Kilda. What if we got a lot of cap space? Next year we will be in the range of 4th -8th oldest. (Just need to lose Howe and Pendlebury to drop down to that level). So there is no chance of attracting talent? Ridiculous.
