Do Collingwood need to enter a rebuild phase?

Perryman, Houston and Membrey are not in the same paragragh as the Geelong three though.
Yeah, but Geelong "ignored" the draft and "wasted" 3 first round picks on Cameron.

What we are being told is that smart teams would not have ignored the draft, and it is ridiculous to mortgage your clubs future for current success, the better option is to take 3 first round picks in he draft.

Essendon had 3 top 10 picks in the 2020 draft, and GWS had their 3 first rounders, clearly the smart team who are obviously just getting ready to enjoy a dominant run on the back of those draft picks.

Except.... they have.

You've been privy to a heap of posts telling us that Pendlebury is being carried to the games record and Acres has been a better player than Sidebottom since 2023.

But the facts are, they're not playing at the same level as they were in the 2010's, as they couldn't be expected to.
Wasn't the Acres over Sidebottom just over 2 seasons? Sidebottom definitely had the better 2025 and the signs aren't good for Pendlebury with his old man injurie. Going to be an interesting watch to see if they do carry him to the games record and I've seen it done at Carlton with Mark Murphey.

Brisbane and Geelong to start.
Not sure GWS Sydney GC Freo StKilda would be playing them.
LOLOLOLOL.

See my edited post about Brisbane above.

Now let's do Geelong...

Brad Close 26 games
Jack Bowes 21 games
Oisen Mullen 25 games
Jack Martin played pretty much every game when fit.
Jhye Clark even played 10 games.

Come on, man. At least give the impression you know something, anything, about the game...

Oh no.

I just noticed....

St. Kilda!

Pendlebury and Sidebottom wouldn't get games at St. Kilda!

OMFG.

What’s wrong with you?
West Coast hung on and now are paying the price. They gave early picks for Kelly and ignored the draft.
Geelong have recruited excellent young players and were lucky enough to get 3 A Grade stars walk in.

Collingwood got Perryman Houston and Membrey

Geelong got Smith Danger and Cameron
Geelong? Geelong!!!!!!!!

?????

Please explain

There we go again...

'Carrying to a games record'....

Despite your comment about 5 minutes ago that 'nobody said they weren't playing good football'.

ALL. OVER. THE. SHOP.

Geelong didn’t have 37 and 33 year olds in there midfield.

Geelong also have an excellent list mix and also a far better history of drafting than Collingwood.
You must have been horrified that the most experienced team in the league in 2020 was mortgaging their future by giving up three first round picks to chase short term success.

What idiots Geelong were to ignore the draft.

Yeah 2020 Geelong had 35 year old GAJ, 31 year old J.Selwood, 30 yr old Danger, 30 yr old J.Steven and 28 yr old "youngsters" in Menegola, M.Duncan, C.Guthire and Daulhaus in there midfield.

Madness to ignore trade away their future and enter 2021 as the oldest list with no youth.

It was rebuild time, cliff was coming, they needed to rebuild and 3 first round picks was the perfect start.

You're a bit precious mate and to tell you the truth Pendlebury deserves to get the record and if you're getting upset by what's said in another thread best you stay out of it.

To get the best key forward in the AFL as a 27 year old?
Plus they also have a far better history of recruiting and drafting players.

Jeepers.

Imagine how good Collingwood would have been over the last 25 years if they were half decent at recruiting and drafting players?

Frightening!
Pies probably under acheived, should've had another flag with the 2010 group and the 2023 group.

Yeah!

Pies should have had a second flag with the 2023 group, that had fallen off the cliff in 2021!
What happened after June then? It looked like the old legs were struggling at times to the casual observer.

Agree.

They were all great in 2025 (all in top 10 of the Tigers BnF), how are Richmond going to replace them?

Will the Tigers battle to win 5 games in 2026 of they fall away?

Senior AFL quality is what you want.

There is no guarantee that the kids come good, or even stay with Richmond if they do come good.

Tigers fans are basically back where Carlton fans were a decade ago (after being sold they needed to go full scorched earth rebuild).

Carlton had all the talented early draft picks that meant they drafted - Weiterz, McKay, Curnow, SPS, Dow, O'Brien TDK, Walsh - plus they "smartly" traded for a glut of GWS early picks in Marchbank, Sumner, Pickett, Plowman.

Carlton fans were sold that just needed to sit back and wait, cop the shit seasons until the kids developed...and so their fans lapped up the we will be great in 4-5 years mantra (what Tiger fans are doing now).

But after all the wasted seasons saw Carlton getting a couple of 5-8 finishes, Carlton fans are once again talking about 4-5 years into he future.

But that is what the "experts" think Collingwood need to do??
I think the replacements are in place but need experience and development
I personally am not expecting more than 3-5 wins for the season and perhaps 5-6 in 2027 as the kids get to 50-70 games and the experienced players are moved on and kids take over.
2nd year of a rebuild so Richmond have time and not expecting competing for finals until 2029 but if we are lucky and ahead maybe 2028 at best.

Development is integral at this stage

2010 group potentially, but we were up against Geelong who were a dominant team. At least we weren't StKilda or WB who came away empty handed.despite having strong teams.

2023 was a bonus flag, as we should have already been rebuilding after coming up short in 18, 19 and 20 according to the experts because our veterans were old, we had stuffed our salary cap and had no youth...the cliff had arrived in 2021.

Yeah imagine being the most experienced club, having been up for a few years but falling short at PF and losing a GF and then deciding to ignore the draft and use THREE first round picks to bring in another senior player!!

Absolute madness.

What idiots Geelong were back in 2020 for ignoring the draft and making their team even OLDER, they also traded for 32 year old Higgins 🤣🤣🤣
