Do GWS have issues with trading for older players?

If it were not trolling they would have rebutted my post and offered insight, rather than scream "but the bulldogs..."

I basically said you guys hadn't been too bad bringing in older guys, and it's damn hard bringing in leaders. It's probably why from out club you lured Ward, and had Roughead and Wood on your hitlist too (whom are now our senior leaders). Then I hope you don't have the next rung scarred by finals failure, our team know all about that...
Most people find it amusing that we are up to the 4th or 5th thread in a week on the same subject about our culture.

Yet the most vocal seem to be fans of a club who capitulated this year and seem to have a lot of issues behind the scenes.

Back to the culture part though, good to see young Whitfield has re-signed.
Must be terrible at the Showgrounds

That much was obvious from the pre-season when they finished top 4 in the club time trials. It caused us some concern about relative training standards.
Again... showed you that Both Matt De Boer and Tendai Mzungu are good endurance runners. Imagine if All the gws players had good time trials as those 2 blokes

Shaw and Johnson have been deadset terrible and need to be moved on. You still want to have one or two players that have actually played in a premiership to help the side over the line (eg Dew in 2008). Shaw and Johnson are not the players GWS require.

Deledio too. Never understood why he was rated at Richmond, if anything he was emblematic of their flakiness and nothing has changed with him playing for GWS.

Gonna have Shaw Mumford Deledio and Griffen all playing next year, all cooked like charcoal and Cameron will keep picking them as he did Deledio and SJ this year.

Harsh on Stevie J. Not surprising his came from a hawks fan. Had a good game last week vs West coast. He Also kicked 4 goals each in the 2007 and 2011 grand finals in which geelong both won.

Johnson is a type of player teams need in a GF: Only needs 10 disposals and that is enough to get him 3-4 goals. Had GWS made the grand final this year, he is the type of difference make GWS need.

At best that was him last year, and he was worth a shot because he gave them a bit more belief and confidence and helped a young forward group. People forget the Giants missed the 8 in 2015 and didn't play finals until last year.

Unfortunately he was undisciplined in the qualifying final, missed the prelim and missed a chance of glory in the grand final.

This year he was done. It was obvious from the start of the year and the longer the season went the more it became clear he had no place on an AFL ground. His 6 goals last week were remarkable but they were also a complete sham. He hadn't done anything until half time after which most of the Eagles had checked out.

Mumford and Shaw - big success even if they unfortunately decline right when the Giants needed them.
Stevie J - worth 1 year, shouldn't have played at the business end of this year
Griffen - big failure so far
Deledio - time will tell. He's only 30 and could easily get his body right and play a lot of solid footy.

Heater hasn't really declined, playets typically wont be AA every year and he made it the last two. With Mummy we're entering a transitional stage, I dont think their has really been a driver for change with the Mummy/Lobb combination working so well and covering any individual weakness. Interesting to see how it goes next year.

Shaw is a liability. Cant play on the better forwards anymore. Hack kicks it under pressure.

Mumford is cooked and Lobb is a pretender.

But their biggest issue is the coach. The greatest list of young talent ever in the AFL are now in their prime and he cant get them to a GF. Damming.

Blueprint is to isolate him deep. Especially in pressure finals.

Dickson destroyed him physically and mentally in last year's prelim and Leon Cameron the idiot didn't learn. You could tell Shaw would shit himself as soon as he was left to man Dusty

Steve J aged overnight.
Lids still plenty left there.
Mummy has been pretty influential as far as i can tell.
Shaw has also been very good.
Such a young side needed some wiser heads.
A couple of final losses in 2 seasons, after being flogged for a few years, should just motivate and determine the club to win it soon. And then it will be worth it.

Of course he has declined blind freddy could see that. Masty Boyd was AA last year too, doesnt mean he didnt massively decline this year. Shaw is getting smashed in one on one contests now, Cameron has a big issue with him next year, I expect GWS fans same frustrations with SJ this year for him next year

Actually he didn't. Our backs developed as a group and we became less reliant on individuals is what happened.
I agree your backs declined, but I dont actually think they were ever that good, with the exception of Wood. Your dominant midfield covered weaknesses in your team last year, and without that dominance it was exposed this year.
We actually haven't declined this year and dont need to look for reasons so the comparison is silly.

What have dogs backs got to do with this thread stay on topic please, this thread is about GWS older players that are failing them badly as is the coach that picks them. Of course GWS went backwards, last year you were raging favourites going into prelim and only a huge choke prevented a grand final, this year you were underdoga and got belted off park by tigers

Lot of talent in the group, but l just wonder if they will ever learn, top teams make it a scrap, GWS get found out when it is.
Same thing happened that has been letting them down, run forward before the contest is won, leaving Richmond to hurt them the other way.
