Do the Supporters of the other English Football association teams berate Manchester United's achievements in leagues and competitions outside of their own ?

Does Manchester officially recognize its own achievements outside of the F.A. ?

PA1870

ManUre's priorities...

1) Champion's League.

2) UEFA cup (irrelevent as they are in the champs league)

3) Premier League championship.

4) World League Cup (new competition which MU withdrew from FA cup for)

5) FA cup.

6)Derby's Vs Man City

7) Worthington Cup.

Most english people support English Clubs in European competitions (if only cos it might help their own cause in the premier league)

Now...

I am interested to see the angle you are going to use to bring this back to AFL!

Of course they would, but what has Manchester United actually achieved outside of the FA, not much regarding they are suppose to be the greatest team on this earth. Teams like AC Milan and Real Madrid have achieved more than Manchester in the last 10 years, but do they get the recognition they deserve?. They also play in the two strongest leagues in the world. Milan in series A in Italy and Madrid in the Spanish Primera. The English premier league would be a distant 3rd to these two leagues.

Finally trust a Collingwood supporter from Tassie to ask what the word berates means.

PA1870,

A football club can win many different things in many different comps.

If Port win the 2001 premeirship, they will have won 1 AFL premiership, and 34 SANFL flags.

Essendon have won 16 premierships, in the AFL, and we won 4 in the VFA. We have also won 6 Ansett Cup pre-season premierships.

Everything counts in a clubs history. However, having said that, Port, while they have won 34 in the SANFL have yet to win anything in the AFL.

Lately, on these boards we have been talking about VFL/AFL history. That is the history of the AFL (which used to be called the VFL, but it is the same league) from 1897. Port havn't won anything since they have been in that league. Essendon, who have been in that league since 1897, have won 16 premierships.

Essendon's history includes the old VFA days, obviously. It's all part of the clubs history. But we are only talking about the success of clubs in the current competiton - the AFL, which has been running since 1897.

It all depends whether you are talking about the current league (the VFL/AFL), or the success of a club, in the many different leagues they have participated in. Because Essendon, Carlton etc etc have been in the one competitonfor 104 years straight, the success of these clubs is judged on how they have performed in that particular competition(the VFL/AFL)

Manchester United's achievements in other competitions have come about from what they do in the Premiership League. Their success in this area has lead to them being eligible for other competitions. They had to be better than the other premiership league teams to win that eligibility so in essence it is a measure of their success against those teams that wins them respect and recognition. If Man U were to be invited to play another tournament regardless of their position in the Premier League, do you think the other teams would give a hoot if they won it? NO! Every competition Man U win, the other Premier League teams have had the opportunity to either play in it or qualify for it but have failed to do so. Otherwise it would be like the bottom eight teams after the AFL H & A season not acknowledging the team who won the premiership because they did not play in the finals. They recognise them because they had that same opportunity but were not good enough. The other AFL clubs did not have the opportunity to play in the SANFL when Port won all of their flags so why do they need to acknowledge them along with their own histories.

PA1870, You may well have won the Port Adelaide Spelling Bee 2000 but having lived in Brisbane I wasn't given the chance to enter it. So, while I'd congratulate you, I wouldn't consider it valid unless I chose to become apart of the competition myself. It wouldn't be relevant to me until then.

One European Championship and they think they are the greatest club on Earth...but I suppose the English need to gloat about something, every other sporting team they have is useless.

Man U cannot be compare to Real Madrid, Barcelaona, AC Milan and Juve because they aren't in their class, and it's playing in a league anywhere near as strong. The English Premier League consists of Man U with Liverpool, Leeds and Arsenal being nothing more than second class football teams (and West Ham third Class), while you look at Spain or Italy and they are chock full of top class football teams.
Spain has Real, Barca, Valencia and Deportivo (who will win this Champions League), while Italy have AC Milan, Juve, Inter, Lazio, Roma and Fiorentina.

Man U are failures outside of England and always will be.

You guys keep bringing it back to Port Adelaide when I ask generic questions....

SSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo!!!!

Ill answer it like this....Dan24 you are always at pains to call the AFL the VFL/AFL
in almost every referance to the AFL......

Port Adelaide never joined the VFL( Melbournes premier suburban league ) , it had several opportunities to do this in the 1980's.

It did ,however join the AFL a New national competition...Its contract does not refer ANYWHERE that it is a Melbourne suburban (VFL ) competition, but a National competition.

The Former....VFL clubs no longer play in the Suburban competition...Just like Port no longer plays in a suburban competition.....
They all play in the AFL....not VFL as you continue to call the National league....

It may have been a Melbourne/Victorian suburban competition once when it was known as the VFL.... But the only competition that exists now that Victorian clubs play in is the National competition known as the AFL.

Port do not and cannot have a VFL/AFL history as they were never a part of the VFL.

But they have a SANFL/AFL history..............................................................................

PA1870

Well, you joined and are part of a 104 year old competition that used to be called the VFL.

It's no different to a human-being changing their name. Just because they change their name doesn't mean they "magically" become a different person.

It's a bit like me being 50 year old (I am actually 25). Hypothetically, when I was 40, I could change my name from Daniel to Peter. You meet me when I was 50, and you know me as Peter. But I am still the same individual that used to be called Daniel. I am not a different person. I am the same person.

Just like the VFL/AFL. You've joined a comp which began in 1897, and ws caled the VFL. It is now "called" the AFL. But it is the same competition.

Do you see now that they are the same? Please say yes. I don't want to explain it all again. I'm pleading PA1870.

OK, Daniel ...

Or Peter ...

I meet you at age 25. Let's say you're a butcher by trade.

25 years later ... I meet you again ... you've done a bit of study ... you have become a rocket scientist ... a 50 year old rocket scientist.

Congratulations, Daniel ... or Peter

Congratulations on being a rocket scientist.

But you weren't a ****en rocket scientist when you were 25, you bloody great tosser.

You were a ****en butcher.

You weren't a butcher/rocket scientist.

You were just a ****en butcher.

But ... in point of actual FACT, Daniel ... or Peter ... that is to say, in real life ...

You're neither a butcher ... NOR a rocket scientist.

You're just a MUG.

A pathetic, deluded, VFL/AFL believing MUG.

Are you named after the alien from the TV show about 12 years ago, Alf? It sure would explain a lot.

trust me...winning the Port Adelaide Spelling bee is not a great achievement.

Most people have trouble openning the door to get in, or find their way there.

Ah yes Alf, but we are not talking change of occupations now are we? We are talking change of name. They are still football teams and football players and their career consists of VFL and AFL. VFL/AFL, VFL/AFL come on say it with me, it's fun.

The reason we have to write VFL/AFL is because we are consistently arguing that they are the same comp. We have to make that clear in every sentence we type because you are only reading what you want to.

Adelaide did not join a NEW AFL competition, they joined a 93 year old comp that had just received its latest coat of paint. Maybe the fumes got to you all!!! Show me where it is written that the new AFL competition opened and replaced the old VFL competition. You talk the talk because that is how you believe it should be. You can't walk the walk because you have nothing to back it up. Yeah, yeah I know, both sides are repeating themselves. But this side is answering all points you put forward whereas the darkside is ignoring all our rebuttals and putting the same points back again as though you have come up with some new evidence. Read back once in a while.

I've said it before and will say it again. The AFL themselves are continuing the VFL history as one with the AFL history. We have the controllers of the game on our side. You believe it to not be so then THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS UPON YOU!!!!!

Please don't reply with exactly the same stuff. You'll just force me to give the same rebuttal. I'll have to create a macro!

Long time, no hear ptw. Welcome back. I already know your opinion on this subject. We've all done it to death

As an English football supporter of another 'English Football Asscoiation team'(Arsenal) I can assure you that I was very upset when Man U won the Champion's League,I was cheering on Bayern Munich & if u know how much we hate the Krauts in this country you'll understand the depth of my loathing for Man U.
As for you DEVO you haven't got a clue what you're f@cking talking about,Man U didn't win the European Championship, this is an international competition played for by the National sides of European countries,France are the current holders & obviosly Man U are ineligible to play in it.Also when you say that the English League is weaker than those in Spain & Italy I would have to bring to your attention the abysmal performances of Italian club sides in last season's Champion's League & UEFA cup & so far this season they haven't done much better,Juventus have been knocked out of the Champion's League & Arsenal who according to you are a second class team have already beaten Lazio this season.Personally I would say that the Spanish League is the best in Europe & pretty exciting, the English Premiership is also very exciting whereas football in Italy is & always has been the most boring in the world due to their fascination with defence.I see that you are a North Melbourne supporter, you are from Canberra & list yourself as a 'public servant' so it is pretty obvious from that lot that are going to have a misplaced perception of the world.

Sorry DIPPER, I meant to say Champions League.
Eventhough Italian clubs have struggled in Europe over the last couple of years, I still believe Seria A is a stronger league than England, simply because more clubs have a chance of winning it, though Roma's lead is almost a big as Man U's. It is on a rapid decline though.
As for the Spanish League - Unfortunately we don't getr enough of those game, but the few that I've seen have been very fast, exciting games to watch. Easily the best league in the world.
Finally, I like to thank you for insulting, my football club, the city I live in, my occupation and me personally. It's nice to see someone living in the most poluted and disgusting hellhole on earth has the balls to make judgements about a city he/she probably knows nothing about.
