I Go To All The Ressies Games At Vic Park ! Pity we have to play at Willamstown next year but i will still go!

Bit hard to go to the reserves in South Aust, as we don't have them! Same as in W.A. The guys who don't play for the Crows or Power go back into local SANFL teams, so we follow whichever team our players end up with, which makes it tricky. At the moment a lot of Crows players play with the Woodville/West Torrens Eagles, so we watch them with interest, but a few years ago it was Norwood. Then if you have your own SANFL team to follow you get divided loyalties.

Yes, I follow the reserves.

I went out to Waverly a couple of times to watch them this year. If Richmond were to come to an agreement with, say, Coburg/Fitzroy I might watch them play if the seniors were playing in Perth.

Go the Mighty Box Hill Hawks. I got my membership with an extra $20 for them and really enjoyed the games i was able to get to see.

I still miss the actual 'ressies' before the big game and i guess that will always be there, but i do agree. Its fun to get along to see the younger blokes coming through and giving them some encouragement.

Watching our VFL side this year helped to keep me sane.

I have always enjoyed watching the reserves and now we have the opportunity to watch our teams play at many of the suburban grounds.

To be able to see some of the young draftees and rookie listed players battle for a senior position is great. This year even more so when a guy like Daniel Wulf battled his way from the uncertainty of the supp list to being drafted on Sunday.

Free entry to home games at Moorabbin and $4 to away games with our membership, players and senior coaches sitting in the stands mixing with the crowds, the chance to listen to the coaching addresses at 1/4 and 3/4 time and have a kick of the footy, why wouldn't you want to go?

heck yeah--->ressies kick ass in fact i'd have to stop and think about whether i had more fun at seniors or ressies this year especially the Vic Park games and the ones out at Waverley on Monday nights! Of course the VFL is quickly being ripped from us once it starts getting good though just like what has happened with the AFL over the years!

~kewlest players round!!!

Course I follow the reserves (or in our case the local comp). I would have gone mad years ago without extra footy to watch I think! And in the days when the Bears had a proper reserves team, we won a reserves premiership!!! YAY, my only taste of a premiership!! Now we have the Lions Cubs in the AFLQ comp instead of a Brisbane Lions reserves team. Works quite well I think! I prefer it to the old system where senior players were farmed out to all the AFLQ teams. Actually I think one of the biggest crowds at an AFLQ game would have had to be last year when Clark Keating was having having his first run on the ground after all that time off injured, and from memory Champion, Lambert and Hueskes were also having a run that day. It made for good footy.

Unfortunately i live in country WA so not only do I not see the wafl (i still call it that) but i don't see many afl games either. I do sometimes go to the games here and support the team in the Albany league. I go for Subi in the WAFL

I went to a few VFL games in 2000. I especially enjoyed the games at Victoria Park. Listening to Joffa harrassing opposition players was very educational to say the least. At least two or three of the players that Joffa targeted have since ended their careers.

Now, without any consultation with the members, Collingwood has decided to merge with Williamstown. We've now got Williamstown's name, Williamstown's colours, and I believe our home games are going to be spread between Williamstown and some place called Deer Park.

Well you can stick that right up your arse.

If it's not Collingwood ... it's not Collingwood.

No more VFL for me!!!

I must be perfectly honest and say I did not go and watch one Sandringham (the club Melbourne is alligned with) game this year. I only watched one game of them on the TV and that was the Grand Final. I know that is a bad effort but there are other things to do besides football.

Other things to do besides football??? NEVER

hehehe. kidding. I am interested in how the Lion Cubs go, but I never seem to hear much, and being so far south, I can't see them. I am interested in Coburg-Fitzroy as well, I must admit that I didn't get to any games this year, but there are a few amazingly good reasons why.

Alf,

I could not understand why the hell Collingwood would pursue Willi as its VFL team. Although, I totally agree with your club, that going it alone (i.e. Collingwood Reserves) would just be too difficult with the reduced lists this year (as will be seen when Carlton get destroyed playing with 12 top-up players), but why Willi???
That "Deer Park" (its actually Caroline Springs

) venture could unearth a whole new supporter base, and I was dissapointed to see the doggies not pursuing it, but still, I totally understand your frustrations.

I was very dissapointed to hear that the doggies ended their dual alliance with both Willi and Werribee, and would go with only one team (Werribee) next year. Last season's structure was the BEST way to go for US. We had 4000+ crowds to the "Western Bulldogs derbies" and the suburban attmosphere was fantastic. It let the youngsters play against and ALONGSIDE men, giving them invaluable experience. Now, it's just gonna be 15 youngsters, and a couple of old hacks. As with you, no consultation, no nothing. Willi are an "upperclass" club, and to tell u the truth, I liked the doggies being associated with them. I had never followed VFL before, but since it was 5 mins down the road from me and I got a chance to see some of the youngsters, I attended a couple of matches

, and now I have to go to shittown to watch the up and comers play. As you said Alf..... they can stick it up their.....

I used to watch our magoos a fair bit. It was a logical journey. Off the train at Richmond, across the road to the Punt Rd Oval to watch the second half, then a leisurely stroll to the 'G.

I will be interested to see how the Richmond / Coburg alliance turns out. Like Alf and Williamstown, if I can't identify with the reserves team as the Tigers then I'll have little interest other than watching the development of some players. I'll follow Frankston instead!

This is a hallucination and these faces are in a dream. A computer generated environment; a fantasy island you can do anything and not have to face the consequences.

I dont support East Perth, the Westar Club the Eagles are alligned to (Claremont and West Perth for me), but I do watch the rookies progress on how they played etc.

The latest article at bigfooty has just said that St Kilda will once again field a stand alone club in the VFL, with Geelong, Essendon and Carlton the only other teams doing the same thing.

While it may be the best option financially and player list wise, merging with an existing VFL club to me means that clubs do not get 100% say in the future development of their players.

The coach of an existing club like Williamstown, Sandringham or Werribee is not going to say, "It doesn't matter if we win or lose, as long as ______ (AFL listed player) gets a run" or something like that. The balance between developing AFL listed players and winning the game will not both be easily satisfied.

Peter Banfield, who incidentally was extremely unlucky to be sacked as assistant coach, worked in conjunction with the senior coaching staff at St Kilda to test players in different positions and aid their development. A player like Daniel Wulf was able to be hidden in certain games when it became apparent that he was good enough for a senior list position come draft time.

But the reduced playing lists and huge costs associated with the venture are making it near on impossible for clubs to field their own sides. To be honest, I am surprised that we are fielding a stand alone VFL side due to the escalating costs.

Sainter,

Great point that a lot of teams have ignored(i think). The one thing I have to give the doggies credit for (and Werribee for being so co-operative for) is that Chris Bond, Terry's assistant this year, is taking over the senior coaching position at Werribee next year. He has the interests of the WESTERN BULLDOGS at heart, unlike many clubs who can't say the sam for their alliances. Werribee vs Saints VFL grand final??

Being a 'one team town' the Lions have a better option with the local comp. They used to farm the players out to the AFLQ teams - ie; 2 went to Mt Gravatt, 3 to Morningside etc etc. But then they changed it. The Lions Cubs now play in the AFLQ comp. Gives the rookies and the non selected seniors a chance to play together and they invite youngster to come and play each week to give them some exposure. There was a question of 'fairness' for their opponents, as on some given weeks there were quite a few regular seniors playing as they returned from injury or had been dropped from the senior team. So to even things up, they play with one less on the field. And on occasion they have actually played with only 16. Makes for interesting viewing sometimes!
