Richmond would have had minimal planning from other clubs over the pre season, but that will be very different this upcoming pre season where they will receive a lot of attention. It will most likely be harder for them next year so you can't assume things will improve naturally, so when you finish top four anything less than a flag is a failure regardless of where you've come from.

Tigers new game plan has been impressive, just not sure the low number of contested possessions and stoppage work will stack up in the finals. Need to win a final for it to be a pass

Someone from champion data spoke about this the other day, he said free kicks against count against us in contested possessions, and given we have given away a shedload more
Free than anyone else this season, this has impacted our numbers. He said not counting free kicks, we were actually 3rd in contested possessions in the league.

It is a factor.

If you can turnaround the contested possessions and stoppage numbers come finals then you are a 50/50 chance, otherwise I can see you going out in straight sets.

There is nothing to turnaround bc in real terms ourcontested numbers are 3rd best in the comp

No shame in narrow losses to Geelong & Sydney. But if the Tigers get blown away, there'll be a huge fallout. Can't remember a more pressurised qualifying final. With Sydney waiting in the wings, might as well call it an elimination final.

Lol... finished 3rd at the end of the H&A...
Start of the season that would have been a ridiculous suggestion to make, Hardwick was on tenterhooks and he was paying fairly good odds to be first sacked. The turn around from last season has been nothing short of miraculous to say the least.
They get a pass mark whatever happens from here.

If that was proposed at the start of the season it wouldn't have even been considered in the realms of possibility that they would be in that position.
From expectations to where they are now its a pass mark.
Richmond have won 15, 12, 15, 8, 15 games in 5 years. They aren't Melbourne.

If that record becomes 0-5 in finals it's a disaster.

It's their greatest achievement in 15yrs and they don't get a pass?
If they don't win a final then their season will have been as successful as Brisbane's, who also would not have won a final. But at least Brisbane get the number 1 pick, so in reality Richmond would be worse off.

And then their best player leaves.

Stop making sense. No place for it here.
Yep, I stand by this:

Under no circumstances is a straight sets exit a pass mark.
You make top 4, you are expected to win a final. Some years like 2009 there's a top 2 and the rest, others like 2014 there's really a top 5. But if you make the top 4 you are still expected to win at least one final. Richmond get a QF at their home ground, then if they lose they get a SF at their home ground against Sydney or Essendon. It's a pretty weak year when the best side in the comp only wins 15 games. We won 16 last year with a % of 130 and finished 6th. That would've had us top this year with the second highest %...

Do Richmond get a pass mark if they fail to win a final? I think not, and I see straight sets for them.
If they go out in straight sets the Gorilla only gets bigger.
I can well remember last time they played Geelong in a final. 16 goal loss.
They need to win and win badly or there truly is no progress of substance out of this season.
Having said that, this finals series looks very open. Every team has clear weaknesses. Do not remember a finals series where not one of the teams looks premiership material. But someone has to win it and will.
This is their best chance to win a final for some time.

This is the best Tigers "team" in over 30 years. I didn't give them a chance in hell at the start of the season. They do "team" nearly as well as the Dogs did last year (of course Dogs went on the win four finals so not saying on par).

Cats have struggled at the G. Reckon the Tigers will beat them, then a Prelim at the G! They're a big chance
