Its why the development states need support, why the Eagles & Dockers don't get any priority on WA players ... you might be interested to know WAFL clubs have zones to this day.

Another idiot. Look at who Hawthorn have lost to free agency (you should know this better than anyone since Franklin now plays for Sydney), vs who Hawthorn have brought in. One could argue that FA combined with COLA has helped Sydney more than any other club just about.

It absolutely is about individual teams. This is a competition first and foremost, and while i accept that the Northern clubs have inherent disadvantages that they need help to balance out, giving them highly rated youngsters for cheap is not the right way to go about it. Sydney have barely lost anyone to the go home factor in recent years, yet have gotten two top 3 draft picks for very, very cheap. While the current system might be right when a team is down the ladder like the other three Northern teams, when it comes to a team like Sydney who are contending, very well run, and got some very highly rated players in their academy, it is a very lopsided result that could make a massive difference in whether Sydney continues to contend, or drop down the ladder like a Western Bulldogs, or a Saint Kilda did once they stopped contending.

No one has offered up the actual figures of ratios of NSW/Queensland players in the AFL to those clubs and how that compares to the ratio for other clubs. The issue raised was the "go home" factor but if the ratios are similar then it's not really a factor at all.

The draft is a core pillar of equalisation which is severely compromised due to the academies.

And teams that have been around since the turn of the century should know what they are doing by now, especially given the advantages of the TAC Cup being located in Victoria, and the Father/Son recruiting policy.

Apart from the fact that Sydney also benefit from the F/S rule, and have almost certainly done better out of it than Hawthorn, i'm fine if that goes too.

The fact is that if another club were in the same situation as Sydney, they would have a pick 18/16 on their list instead of two top 3 draft picks. That is a massive advantage, and over a large sample size will almost certainly see Sydney outperform the other club, and likely win more premierships.

The reason there's no reasoning that will satisfy me is that Sydney is a club contending for premierships while adding top 3 draft picks to their lists for a well below market price. It's providing a much bigger advantage than F/S has provided over a two year period for probably any club. Why are we talking about the Northern clubs when there is a club that has just won 3 premierships in a row and looks like strong favourites to win a 4th in a row?
