Do we elevate Brandon Jack?

Rookies like Biggs and Jack who play essentially the same role as him have been elevated off the Rookie list and above his pecking order. I would say he has disappointed the coaches.

Well Jack has but Biggs plays a different position. Towers is playing forward in the reserves and Biggs was elevated as a rebounding defender.

I understand what you're all saying but it doesn't make sense to me to just get rid of him after one year and incur the costs. May as well hang on to him for his 2nd year of his contract and hope he comes good.

I believe if we trade him we don't have to pay his salary. That would only be if we delisted him, which isn't being suggested.

Some trades have the original clubs paying salary of the player. Depends how unwanted or wanted that player is. Dunno that many clubs would be falling over each other to get to him though.

Yeah but I think that's the point being made. If another club is interested, we should trade him. I doubt on his salary the salary would be a sticking point to pushing the trade through.

Yeh I'm not against that altogether. I just can't see the club giving up on their 2012 first round pick (SF51, spare me our turgid first round pick history, I'm tremendously aware of it) after one year.

You have nothing to fear, I've finished pulverising that dead horse :) . My next draft related post will be about Kinnear's total history with first round picks. People forget that while at Brisbane he picked gems like Llane Spaanderman at pick 3, Des Headland at pick 1, Damian Cupido at pick 6, Jared Brennan at pick 3 (above Jarrad McVeigh), Cameron Wood at pick 18.

As much as I enjoy that post, there is no way in hell that Llane Spaanderman was picked at number 3 in any draft! But point taken, christ that guy was hard to watch.

Kinnear's first round history is worthy of many lulz. His late round history doe.

Oh god, I screwed up. He was pick 18, I mixed up my list as he played 3 games and I put that as his draft number. So still a dismal 1st round failure but not as bad as I made it sound. Pick 3, good lord.

Have you actually physically compiled your own list of first round failures? I truly hope you have

I've had some worries with work that I haven't been able to get out of my mind recently. First thing when I wake up and last thing before I go to bed sort of thing.

I like to think swansfan51 is the same with our first round draft pick history.

That generally involves players who had a higher salary that have faded to a position the club no longer wants and to create list space they have to hold a proportion of his cap space.

I’m not suggesting throwing the baby out with the bathwater scenario, if the terms are not right he stays and as a first round pick I think he’s on the list to 2015. Im just looking at the possibility of creating a draft pick for perhaps upgrading Jack for a player who is not happy in this environment,

Well it looks like the question has just been answered. Morton's retirement opens up the necessary spot. Sad news to lose Mitch but means a deserved reward for young Brandon.

Based on contract expiry, we could be looking at something like:

OUT: Lamb (traded), Mattner (retired), Bolton (retired), Morton
IN: Rampe, Traded Player, 2 draftees

Called it. ;)

You didn't write (retired)

I wrote it on Bolton and Mattner and got lazy, I assumed everyone knew I meant retired for Morton too. :P

I assumed you meant he would be de-listed.

Morton's retirement opens up a slot for Jack then. The contract list was interesting reading. Has Everitt re-signed? and wow, 20 contracts finishing up next year.
