The old accepting mediocrity gag.
The most ridiculous notion on this board.
As fans you have no choice because there is SFA you can do to change it.
If enough people vote with their feet or on the ballot paper plenty can be done to change it. Last years board challenge failed, if one happens again this year, the chances of it getting up are high.

Of course you can't change anything if you don't agitate.

I feel like punching my screen when I see people say it.

Just because the club isn't doing what the fans want doesn't mean they accept mediocrity. I heard the other day, someone said that we accept mediocrity cos we "treated our finals appearances like hawks treat their threepeat" wtf... No it wasnt good enough, but its still a positive and something at least to be a little bit proud of considering our history over the past 30 years. So acknowledging positives is accepting mediocrity now? lol
Extending the contract of a coach who went 0/3 in finals (when he still had time to run on his current deal) is the definition of accepting mediocrity.

And now because of that blunder we have a toothless board who won't act because they've tied their tenures to the sinking Hardwick ship.

What scares me is I really think our playing group would spit the dummy if they had a harsh coach.
It's like they are happy being where they are because it's easy on them and they know no different.
Disagree, but if that was the case, they wouldn't make it anywhere else either.

**** this is such a hard thing to define and everybody will have a slightly different view on it. Let it be known though, that there is NOTHING wrong with supporters celebrating a win, ever! Sport is all about winning (yes, it's all about how you play the game but ultimately we support our team and want them to win) and as a supporter you go to the game or watch on tv hoping for a win. When the team wins you celebrate. Celebrating a win does not mean you are accepting mediocrity. I'm very happy with last night. I've checked out this year because I'm sick of the constant letdowns with Richmond but I'm still happy the boys turned up last night, showed some intent and beat one of our biggest enemies! Does it make up for the bad season? No, of course not. But it makes up for round 2 just a little bit.
I can remember a few years ago our supporters getting criticised for celebrating beating Hawthorn in one of those round robin NAB Cup games with 3 teams and shortened games. FFS, it was all a bit of fun, we beat Hawthorn and had a bit of a sing. It doesn't mean we were reading too much into it ... it was just a bit of fun on the night. When we beat Norf in R23 last year we knew it was very meaningless but we had a 9 goal last quarter and it ended up a fun night at the footy, IF taken in isolation. And that's fine! The letdown the next week was massive and that's a lot more important.
I'm inclined to walk away from some wins feeling flat and disappointed if we don't play well, particularly against a low side. I don't always celebrate wins because of that but I'll be damned if I'll accept anyone telling me or any other supporter that I'm accepting mediocrity if I'm happy with any win at any time.
As long as we're aware of where we stand in the bigger picture we can enjoy some of the little steps along the way.
Cheers and be happy everyone, we beat Collingwood!!!!!

I feel like that with the local football, and even the VFL with my team winning by over 50 points I'm thrilled. But I see AFL as more an entertainment business with millionaires so I just judge it more harshly. I cannot compare apples with oranges.

It was my dumb mistake when I signed up. I've browsed a few forums over the last few years before finally deciding to join here. I've used the Tigerbob68 before on an email address and didn't really put a lot of thought into my name here!!! I had seen the other Tigerbob before but it slipped my mind at the time and I wouldn't have known if it was here or somewhere else if I'd thought of it. Can you change your name without losing your history?? If the original Bob ever objects I can morph into someone else, haha.

And we invest a LOT more into it ourselves with the AFL so we should judge it more harshly. No problem at all. I judge it VERY harshly. I missed 3 games in Melb in 12 seasons after i moved here in '04, last night was the 7th this year I've missed. I'm SO pissed off with going to the footy and feeling like shit while I'm there that I'm just not going to keep doing it until things improve. I just still think it's ok, given all of that, to be happy when we have a win. And I will NEVER be critical of people who are still going to the games, quite the opposite. Good on them! They're not accepting mediocrity, they're doing what supporters do!!

Supporting mediocrity.....you don't need to blindly support everything, it isn't a brainwashing cult.

I feel once you turn a certain age you can become very jaded with the AFL/media/money/business and feel more at home supporting local/VFL sides. So as for investing, personally for me it's the VFL, but that doesn't mean you can't show frustration at how your AFL club does things.

See what I mean about everyone having a different view!!! Being happy with a win doesn't mean you can't also show frustration at how your AFL club does things!! As I said, and I can only speak for myself, I was happy with last night but also extremely frustrated with how Richmond is doing things. I won't refuse to support them but I might refuse to attend a fair bit. And I reckon most people going along aren't blindly supporting the club. For a lot of people it's just part of what they do. They have a choice, same as you do. Nobody's right or wrong here Sass. The ONLY point I really want to make here is that there is NOTHING wrong with being happy at the time when we win and it does NOT mean those people are accepting mediocrity.
Supporting mediocrity isn't the same thing as ACCEPTING mediocrity!
I'm gonna shut up on the subject now :beercheers: Cheers Sass, cheers everyone else and Go Tiges!!!!

Disagree, but if that was the case, they wouldn't make it anywhere else either.
I don't think they would make it anywhere else as a group they just aren't good enough.
Lets be realistic about people voting with their feet or otherwise too, and to say a person that continues to go to games to follow their team is accepting of mediocrity is plain wrong.
I don't go to as many games when we are like this because it shits me too much but I will defend those that do.
I agree a new board would be the end of Hardwick but I disagree that the chances are high, they are extremely remote.

The tone in Benny's voice today suggested DH may not be safe.
Unless he's a terribly worried man.
My little tacker apparently met DH when I ducked off to get a Kransky . He told me DH was a really nice person and he shook his hand and told him he liked his old fashioned Tiger jumper .
Which a lot of people were commenting on.

Zebras.

But I have I have a sift spot of the Seagulls and Burgers. And Tigers through default.
The Zebras and the gulls are good sides to watch. They both monstered Coburg. I think the Tigers will belt Coburg this time round as we are dropping like flies. The family atmosphere at Willy is tremendous and the boys want me to go there again.

A lot do though, even just by going to the matches, and celebrating poor wins.

*not saying it is a bad thing for a supporter to do.
Sorry man what a crock of horse droppings. Supportings ones team even when they are shit is not accepting mediocrity, its called loyalty.

Only the weak run for cover when the going gets tough

Yeah, going to Willy is great if the weather is nice. Who knows with Coburg, they seem to have Richmond's measure, and a couple of players that AFL scouts should be looking at.

By supporting a mediocre team you are accepting it.

And I have stated before, there is nothing wrong with that if you enjoy it.
