Agree with those on Griffiths. I haven't given up on him yet.

Watching Tippett tear it up in the last 6 weeks or so has convinced me that we must persist with him. Griffiths has never had a proper run at it with injuries and being shuffled around positions. It took until late last year for Tippett to truly announce himself as a very good player. Before that it was just glimpses. I see a lot of similarities between the two and really hope Giffiths does the same (hopefully when our flag window opens next year)

Dan Richardson said yesterday on 3AW we will be targeting a Ruck and Key Forward, but still had hopes Elton and Griff will develop over the next 12-18 months.

Will make for a very interesting post season

In the draft or via trade?

Jeez we are getting a bit greedy here. We've got a 2 time coleman medalist in riewoldt and a pretty handy ruck/forward in vickery. Whilst neither of them are monsters, its a pretty handy pair. McGuane has been handy at times, and there is at least some "potential" going around at coburg between mcbean, griffiths and elton - hopefully at least 1 of these guys comes through as a forward and i think we all have money on mcbean being that 1. I think bringing in a big monster forward could throw off the balance we have up forward in many ways:

1. Salary cap - a good monster forward will usually demand much higher wages than an equivalent mid. We have good midfield depth and if we chase even an inexperienced monster forward we might have to lose some of that depth to pay for them (i.e. a conca type). A Tippett type could mean losing a deledio/martin/cotchin AND a depth mid! Particularly if you believe the hype regarding our salary cap.

2. Impact on Jack - a good monster forward probably would take attention away from jack - both from our players and the opposition. The latter is probably a good thing. The former - well lets just say I'd rather the ball in jack's hands than our last monster forward. Jack not only is a good set shot, but he is a very clever player who has plenty of other score involvements.

3. Impact on Vickery - could we afford to play vickery as a third tall/occasional ruckman? He already has games where he struggles to command a presence and gets lost.

4. Impact on ability to stop the other teams defensive rebound - jack is a gun when it comes to defensive acts as a key forward. vickery is also pretty quick/agile for his height and can lay a tackle. Hardwick has shown an inclination towards playing a defensive third key forward (mcguane). We probably wouldn't get this sort of output from a monster forward.

I think we should develop from within - I think with mcbean coming through as an agile tall, vickery can afford to lose a bit of agility to gain some weight and strength. He has already got the aggro streak, now he just needs to physique to match.

He didnt say, but he said it was our main priority.

He also said we will be developing from with in but those players are a bit off the pace at the moment. Sounds fair now that we are becoming a serious finals team in the next few years.

Also i would love the club go hard after Dal Santo, would get a couple of great years out of him.

yes we need one top four teams have one Hawthorn Roughhead, Cats Hawkins, Freo pavlich, Swans Tippet, Collingwood Cloke

really need to look into this boyd deal even if that means giving up a conca and second rounder

And yet really only Collingwood have won a premiership with that power forward dominating.

Jack is a two tie coleman winner and a very good contested mark, not as good as he was in 2010 when he was up for mark of the year every week, but still at least the equal of everyone on that list bar cloke.

Uh...Hawkins single handedly won Geelong the 2011 Grand Final in that 3rd and 4th quarter.

They also had Dawes then as well as the hit up CHF which helped Cloke immensely.

I think our forward line is good enough with the midfield we are currently building. I did expect Griffiths to come on better then he has though which is disapointing.

Really, Jack uses his brain, he's not that quick and Dusty would be stronger in a man on man pack mark.
Vickery has soft hands and is slow and rarely has a second effort.

Find an athletic power forward and I'd wave that plodder Vickery away in a heartbeat.

Targeting the wrong end IMO, need another Key Defender - the bigger, the better. Still have nobody who can really nullify the likes of Cloke, Petrie & Tippet and nobody to cover for Chaplin if he misses games.

Good call. What about Frawley and his supposed issues? is their any fact to those.

sorry i meant over the season. Hawkins had an amazing game that day.

But honestly he is the only power forward i can remember in recent history that has dominated in grand final day.
