Just wondering if we as a club have the correct formula with how we utilise the Magpies as our 'reserve' team. Im not sure how other AFL clubs manage their reserves, but surely our record shows we are doing something wrong.

2019 A.R. McLean medallist - J. Trengove - Delisted in 2019.
2018 A.R. McLean medallist - W. Snelling - Delisted in 2018
2017 A.R. McLean medallist - B. Ah Chee - Traded in 2017 due to lack of AFL opportunity
2016 A.R. McLean medallist - K. Mitchell - Delisted in 2016
2014/15 A.R. McLean medallist - S. Summerton - Never given a chance even as a rookie at AFL level

2019 Leading Goalkicker - B. Frampton - Currently seeking trade due to lack of AFL opportunities
2018 Leading Goalkicker - L. Thomas - Delisted in 2018
2017 Leading Goalkicker - B. Eddy - Delisted in 2017
2016 Leading Goalkicker - L. Reynolds - Left Port due to SANFL restrictions - greater opportunities
2015 Leading Goalkicker - M. Harvey - Delisted 2015
2014 Leading Goalkicker - J. Butcher - Survived 2 more years on the list.

So out of the last 6years of SANFL best and fairest and leading goalkicker awards... 8 weren't at the club the following year... likely to be 9 if Frampton leaves... That is an astonishing record of being highly successful at the reserve level and not getting a go at the top level. Why is this the case?
You are better off being a good but not great SANFL player if you want a chance at AFL level for Port.

Every single person listed is not good enough. A lot of those guys are just mature aged depth players as well, so if they are not in the 22 consistently at their age, there is no point having them on the list for 2-3 years longer than they should be.

Ken Hinkley doesn’t develop forwards past SANFL.

Talent doesn't equal b&fs at reserves level, lack of talent does, those not good enough run around getting votes all year. The real measure would be average votes per game.
